As mentioned above, Inafune screwed up with his "we need to appeal to the west, Japan is over" rumor says he actually decided to sabotage things before jumping ship, but then we got MN9 which clearly shows he only knows a bit more about vidya than Kenzo Tsujimoto, among other things Tameem said Inafune told him to "make it as if you were making a film" and you know the rest.

Do Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein 2009 count? I consider any game that was named just "Game name" with no subtitle, when a game with that name already existed as a reboot.

It's something of a soft reboot. I think Itagaki tried to have them tie in to the originals when he was around, but changed things like Ryu's eye color "because it was cool". A pilot from the originals made a cameo in the last of the rebooted games with "Sonia" being a codename for Irene (who also had had a drastic redesign.

me too, I was just a little kid when I played it thinking "wow Ryu is so cool, I wish I wasn't shit at this game".

Later I found out about the nes games thanks to screwattack (R.I.P.) and the AVGN. Then I found out about the arcade beat em up by buying it on wii's virtual console thinking I was buying the platformer. I still have no idea what order these games are supposed to be in but I love them all the same.

Probably all the """politically incorrect""" psychopaths, there's a morbidly obese woman in a mobility scooter that kills a guy over a burger, a muscle """girl""" with a tumblr haircut and self esteem issues and a old female cop that more or less molests you every time you meet her, there's also a joke flamethrower that looks like a dildo with two round canisters on each side and you wear it as a belt, the shooting animation has nick trusting his hips towards the enemy.

It's a shame they did this for the one game that's as deep as a puddle, its an option I've always wanted for 1 and 2. Not for the clock to be removed entirely, but a sandbox mode so I could just dick around the mall exploring the shops and finding unique weapons.

Even though I could still technically do that, it irks my autism something fierce to see quests failing while I'm trying to have fun dicking around and exploring.

They actually ended up changing their movesets to unique attacks during their big final patch. It's not really worthwhile though.

The funniest thing about that game is how it became 100% obsolete the day it came out and all the assets were remade in source ports. It was always going to be a watered down version of a mod that was already aging by the time it came out but the fact even the handful of original ideas that were in it could be lifted before the new game smell even wore off was the exact sort of thing it deserved.

I thought it was fine gameplay wise, everything else you said is true though. The cutscenes didnt bother me since most of them where short. But the part where the robot takes you to his office was too long, remember jumping around waiting for him to shut up.

Even Doom 3 was a shit reboot already. Despite the "3," D3 is in everything but name a total remake of the 1st game. Now Doom has 2 shit reboots of the first game. I was kinda glad that they finally wanted to move the franchise forward, but of course it had to be le epic Doomslayer lore and shitty arenas that remove all ambush tension from the game and tedious maps with lame rewards like fucking bobbleheads that make exploration a chore.

It's the opposite. Itagaki was a firm believer of a game being able to be played regardless of continuity or prior knowledge if the gameplay is outstanding and the story is solidand he was absolutely correct about it and for years people thought that Ryu never took his mask off, was half a ghost that could turn into birds and wanted to bone Sonya and Rachel. It's because Hayashi that Ninja Gaiden became a whole series again and those three are a soft reboot of the first game. If it weren't for Hayashi putting all those old characters like Robert in NG3, putting the whole "Sonya=Irene" in DOA Dimensions and then finally tying the new Underworld + Dragon Blood Lore that Itagaki created with Niohand Kou Shibusawa's help. I know that some people hate the whole NG3 thing and its story but I kinda like. It could be my bias because the guy who wrote the story also wrote the OVA Ninja Gaiden, the NES Ninja Gaiden stories and the Chrono Trigger storywhich suddenly nobody wants to aknowledge like the goylems they are and want to keep pretending that Chron Trigger is some literary masterpiece instead of DBZ X Final Fantasy.
