Been using an MX Ergo Trackball for the last year and I love it especially since It doesn't require any desk space but it has proven to be very difficult for me getting as good as aiming I was when I used a normal mouse even with finely tuned mouse acceleration settings. Microsoft just released their new redesign of the Intellimouse in the U.S. without the garbage sensor that was in the one they released a few years back. Has anyone here tried it yet?

>mouse acceleration is bad
This is a huge misconception because most implementation of mouse acceleration is horrible. Povohat's Mouse Acceleration Driver which is extremely popular with Quake competitive players gives you a lot of control of the entire acceleration curve. Acceleration is also pretty much required to make large precise movements on trackball since you have so little movement on the ball before you have to pick up your thumb.

I have had the same logitech g700s for 4 years. It hasn't broken down on me, but I do still have some complaints. The middle mouse button is crap because you can't click it without activating two other mouse functions. There are too many buttons. I only needed like two extra, and there aren't any similar models with fewer buttons. The battery is really bad. Surface detection is kinda shoddy, I have to use it on a really flat and solid surface so it doesn't fuck around. Lastly, having a higher reports per second makes the pointer movement really jittery. I'm sure there's a reason for this, but it's one less feature I'll be using.

Depends on your taste. Some people enjoy CoD or Halo, oddly enough. As for competitive, I wouldn't know. I'm not into the scene, but I can only imagine there are a lot of things that need to be set in place to grant fairness in the competition.

THREADLY REMINDER NON-FLAWLESS MICE ARE SHIT
If you don't need a good mouse get a cheapo crap mouse. Otherwise buy one with a good sensor. Anything in-between is an absolute waste of money. It's either good or shit.
>what's a flawless mouse?
Any mouse with a sensor that tracks 1:1 movement consistently, without artifacts and gimmicks. Be careful though, a good sensor alone is not enough, shitty firmware or implementations can fuck things up too, and some mice possess shitty gimmicks like a gyroscope and an accelerometer to inflate their numbers e.g. Logitech G402's 'Fusion Engine', though it can be disabled. but why not get one that doesn't have that
Also there are lots of marketing buzzwords and snake oil floating around (e.g. boasting ludicrous 'DPI' (actually CPI) when it's as relevant as GHz to a CPU).
All in all it's a clusterfuck.
>why can't I just use any random 'gaymen' mouse?
Shitty mice have one or more of the following
<not much better than a generic cheap mouse, yet significantly more expensive and a good mouse which will last longer is just a few bucks extra. A shitty gayming mouse is basically the equivalent of shitty gamepads like GameSir or Logitech F310.
<poor malfunction speed (speed at which mouse tracking accuracy drops, for >muh low sens in FPS)
<poor acceleration (how fast you can accelerate mouse movement, for >muh fast 180's and flicks in FPS)
<firmware or sensor-induced acceleration (cursor movement varies depending on how fast you move your mouse)
<jitter (fast mouse movements produce crests and valley artifacts)
<angle-snapping (vertical and horizontal movements yield perfectly straight lines instead of representing actual movements)
<dithering and other garbage to fill gaps between 2 CPI settings natively supported by sensor, or higher CPI than the sensor supports natively (compromises ability of mouse to track 1:1 movement)
<etc.
Also protip: mice are repairable. infrared LED died? solder a new one. mouse switch chatter? buy a new one for pennies and solder it. mouse feet worn out? make your own (e.g. teflon tape).
>examples of flawless sensors (non-exhaustive)
PMW 3310, 3360, 3366 (logitech's version of latter), 3389 (razer's version), SDNS 3988, 3989
>how can I tell if a mouse is flawless?
Same drill as buying a non-shit computer PSU. Read specs from manufacturer page, then read (hopefully non-shill) reviews or posts from someone who has info to fill in the obvious gaps deliberately left on the official specs page, find info from someone who disassembled it and ran relevant tests (hopefully non-shill as well), find out what its innards are, and hope someone the tests were honest and accurate. And remember,
WHEN IN DOUBT, DON'T BUY
>well this sucks. all this shit just to buy a fucking mouse?
Blame the (((companies))) that make and market them. An informed customer is a hard sell. Their shittiest offerings wouldn't sell if people were informed. Nor would luxury mice, since an overpriced RGB vomit, pro-gayming, e-celeb approved, hand-crafted, gold-plated mouse performs as well as a modest mouse with good internals.

I personally don't recommend it for playing games, the rubber on the sides wears really easily, and while it generally feels good in the hand, it's quite large and gets your palms all sweaty because there's no room to breathe like with a smaller mouse. The buttons are very nice, the scroll wheel is fine though after using it for about a year, it's lately begin to feel slightly stiff to me, not sure why. The box said that it being a wired mouse was a feature, which gave me a chuckle.

I just got one yesterday because I was really tired of handicapping myself using a trackball for a year in FPS games. I am thoroughly enjoying it although it could just be because this is the first real mouse I've used in so long. The side buttons feel amazing and I really like how it fits in my hand. I can definitely see how the rubber will wear down, years back I owned a G502 and after a good 3 years of using that thing the rubber pretty much disintegrated.

I need a durable mouse
Got the g703 and the mouse wheel failed to work within a couple months.
2 year warranty bounced saying it was a "software issue".
Fuck Logicuck.
I want to buy a new mouse that is DURABLE above all.
However, their are some personal biases of mine.
1. The mouse wheel cannot be sunk into the mouse.I.E. Intellimouse
2. The mouse wheel must be DURABLE.
3. I like to have programmable side buttons. The more the better.
Ironically enough the best thing I could find was another Logitech product (Pic Related), but I really don't want to give them my money again.
The next best I know is a Roccat, which I know first hand are built like tanks, and their software is great. The Tyon is just freaking expensive as hell, so I'm hesitant.

Bad and good
Bad part is it's nested in their platform, so you have the main portal for all things CM then you have the individual control panels, I think you can start the individual control panels without the mainb portal though just don't know how.
Other than that the control panel for the mouse itself is clear and easy to use, even has the MS control panel sliders right there so you don't have to go look for them
It has the usual button reassignment thing for every button, the usual modifier key to change the action on every other button if you need that
But more importantly it has sensor control with the ability to set 4 DPI levels you can hotswap (with linked / unlinked X and Y speeds for the few games that fuck that up), polling rate (125 / 250 / 500 / 1000, all stable for me), tuneable angle snapping (not that most people want it but might come in handy I dunno and a high / low lift off distance setting

I have the one you pictured (G602). About 6+ years now with only minor issues. The plastic "clicky" part underneath each mouse button can get stuck, but nothing opening it up and using a can of compressed air can't fix. The battery life is fantastic, so running through batteries isn't too much an issue.

The Tyon is the opposite. It uses un-nested software. (The old Roccat software, which was discontinued because normalniggers found it too "overwhelming")
I've used the software before on a Kone and it seemed pretty good, along with the mouse.
Their is only 2 problems with it.

Laser automatically means

There's also very few high end laser sensor a due tho the above there's little info because they're inherently not perfect sensors so the usual autist don't care, so you won't know about angle snapping / prediction etc which some of those sensor have.

It feels like it’s going to last longer than the g502 did, but time will tell.
Fits better than the Logitech mouse did anyways, and it has way, way better software.
Btw, the way you launch the mouse software outside of the nested software is that you install the mouse then you should get a file named “mm520” or whatever it is that pops up.
You can then open this up and edit your mouse’s settings without opening the nested software.

Zowie mice are about as overrated as Razer mice in my experience.
90% of the mouse is down to how it feels in the hand. But you can’t tell how it feels in the hand over the internet so you should just go to a store and ask them to open the box and try out the mouse in your hand.
I did that with the mm520 and realized my grip fit it better than all the mainstream mice.
You should also stay away from soft rubber as it degrades into a icky texture after a few months.
The sensors do make a difference, but whatever the sensor turns out to be you will adjust to it anyways. Laser sensors are generally worse than optical.
Another tip for mice is to buy ones that have the left and right mouse buttons separate from the frame.
Optical mouse wheels are better/more durable than membrane wheels.
Also make sure the software doesn’t suck.
So basically if the mm520 had an optical mouse wheel I’d have the perfect mouse right now, so I might look into modding it.

Better speakers than 99% of headsets.
No RGB retardation. No retarded software unlike Logitech, frame is actually metal, unlike Logitech. Basically if you are getting a headset get anything other than Logitech.
The Cloud Alpha’s are durable and have good sound sill using them today with minimal wear.
For headphones with no mic, just get whatever the audio junkies are fapping over. I here Audio Technica has good headphones.
As far as mice go. You can get an older roccat kone. Very durable, no RGB. Good sensor. God tier mouse wheel.
Or you could get a different mouse with RGB and then turn it off in the software. I have a mm520 now and it seems durable enough.

You don't have to use the software unless you use meme features such as multiple button profiles or game specific profiles. The important settings such as dpi presets, RGB behavior and mouse acceleration on/off/levels are stored in the mouse's memory, so you can just uninstall the software after you configure them.

That might depend on the mouse model, some do, some don't. I don't often reprogram buttons, but I know from experience that the Logitech G402 for example does store reprogrammed buttons in memory. When I used one, I swapped b4 and b5 with the dpi switch buttons, and it kept working without the software.

I'm gonna give you an unironic answer. I bought one for the following
>durability
By far the main reason (assuming you research a good one). Today's cheap rubber dome membrane keyboards are shit (shitty spacebar, keys get stuck, 2KRO, fading letters, mushy feeling, etc.) unless you spend some money ($30+).
At that point why the fuck not spend some more and get a better keyboard for $50-90?
>repairability
chatter? switch breaks? spend 1 dollar, unsolder old one, solder a new one. done.
broken or lost keycaps? keycap shine? buy new ones (ease depends on whether bottom row is standard and what type of switches (Cherry MX-compatible, Topre, Alps, etc.) you have)
>NKRO
cheap shitty keyboards are 2KRO which is absolutely unacceptable (e.g. can't press down+left+Space).
Only downside is when a keyboard employs ugly hacks to achieve NKRO (like emulating many keyboards), yielding some problems (for example holding CTRL+Backspace results in CTRL,Backspace,CTRL,Backspace), instead of doing things the right way. Thankfully plenty of keyboards let you switch between 6KRO and NKRO.

No idea what the CURRENT good budget boards are. I can give you some well known keyboards as a starting point. They're all full keyboards with Cherry MX or clones that don't require any shitty vendor software in the background. TKL keyboards are cheaper (~$10 less), but I prefer having a numpad. Prices listed are what I found through online searches, you can find them cheaper if you get them on sale.
>Magicforce 108 (around $70)
100% layout. USB. NKRO/6KRO toggle. Gateron switches. Double shot (i.e. won't fade ever) ABS keycaps. No vendor software required.
>Plugable mechanical keyboard (MSRP $75-85)

6KRO via USB, NKRO only via PS/2. Cherry MX switches. ABS laser printed keycaps (very resistant to fading). No vendor software required. Has no Menu key (replaced by Fn key)
>Ducky Zero (around $80; likely discontinued, not shown on ducky's page anymore)
USB. 6KRO/NKRO toggle. Cherry MX switches. double shot keycaps (ABS and PBT available). No vendor software required
>Ducky One and One Two (newer) (around $85 for cheapest versions)
USB. 6KRO/NKRO toggle. has bells and whistles like programmable macros. Cherry MX switches. double shot keycaps (ABS and PBT available). No vendor software required
>Kingston HyperX Alloy FPS (around $80)
USB. 6KRO/NKRO toggle. Cherry MX switches. thin ABS laser-etched keycaps. No vendor software required.
Note: there's plenty of shit I left out (e.g. ISO vs ANSI layout, stabilizers (e.g. costar, cherry), switch types (actuation force, clicky vs linear etc.), standard bottom row (easier to find replacement keycaps)), especially the more autistic stuff (keycap profiles, plate vs PCB mount, chassis vs exposed plate, switch top removal support, yadda yadda)
Remember to DO YOUR RESEARCH:
I remember being really pissed when a Thermaltake Poseidon Z I had bought on a recomendation developed chatter in 6 months (common issue for that keyboard). I was also appalled when I found it had those fragile wire stabilizers from shitty keyboards (unacceptable for an $80 keyboard), and thanks to the lack of NKRO toggle and its shitty NKRO implementation, certain keys would register alternatingly when held down (e.g. \ and a yielded \a\a\a\a or \\aa\\aa\\aa), making it impossible to switch TTYs or use REISUB on Lunix (CTRL/ALT, function keys, and letters were on separate 'keyboards').

Love the g600 personally since I need all of its features for productivity. But unfortunately I'm having double click issues with it. Too retarded and lazy to get another switch and attempt to solder it. And it's REALLY fucking annoying that you can't access the screws without destroying the skates. Had to order another pair of skates for like $4 and I'm hoping once I take it apart and drown it in alcohol the double clicking problem will go away. Also going to take out the retarded fucking weights that are inside of it. Still, it's a pretty cheap and very feature rich mouse that I absolutely could not live without.

for awhile now. It's the only keyboard that meets my autistic standards and I could only find it on this chink site. I'm going to head to the shop to test out some mechanical keyboards to see if it's really worth it first though.

Where can I go to try out keyboards before I buy one? I've got an old ancient monstrosity that is clunky, but I've never used anything mechanical or with color-coordinated switches or anything, and some of the types are loud as fuck which would drive me up the wall. RadioShack and BestBuy are glorified cell phone carriers now.

After having a G500 for 5 or so years, I can say its a great mouse. Just recently had problems with it. Double left clicks and sometimes the sensors bug out and only displaces in a diagonal fashion. It only lasts a few seconds but then it normalizes.
>keyboard
Had the Genius SlimStar 110 for a very long time. One day I switched to SteelSeries APEX 300. Great keyboard until it wasn't. One day, I spilled some jew sugared nectar on it. No biggie. I cleaned it and then some keys started to act funny. Cleaned it again and again, double dryed it, and still keys would act funny. That week BullyHunters shit happened. I used it as target practice.
I got a Genius KB130. Worst keyboard ever. Keys would jam, or not respond at all. I stabbed it repeatedly one night after a tipsy gayming session.
Bottom line, this week I got desperate looking for a used Genius SlimStar 110. Best budget keyboard ever.

The source of the clicking problem are the tiny springs inside the microswitches. You can open them up and re-tension them so they work again.

I did this with a Naga that had the double click thing and it stopped.
But yeah the glider skates thing is a pain.

Eh I think I watched a video on fixing the switches and it looked a little too involved for me. The problem is intermittent so I'm hoping its something alcohol can fix. I saw some guy who cut out holes in his skates for the screws, so I might try that since I think my order comes with a spare, then if it all works out I can just pop it open for a cleaning or even attempt to fix the switch down the road. Fucking nigger mouse companies always jewing us, should be illegal to make a product this annoying to pop open.

I just bought one of these, but I don't have much hope for it being anything other than complete trash. But it was cheap, and I just need something good enough with a small form factor that it and the mouse can sit comfortably on a bed-desk I can lay over my lap, then toss everything into the side drawer, fold it up, and shove it between the couch and night stand.
I don't really need a ton of key combinations, since I'm using it in conjunction with a Xim Apex, and most console games have truncated button mapping for shitty controllers anyhow. Normally I wouldn't even bother with any of this shit, but I have friends and family who absolutely refuse to get a PC, so if I ever want to play games with them again it's either get used to trying to fumble around with an analog stick - or this.

How does it feel compared to using a kb+m on pc? Also how many times have you been flamed for using it? Any time I see the Xim being used is see salty fags everywhere claiming it's cheating cause they are primitive cavemen who still use a stick to aim.

Dunno, it arrives tomorrow. I can't imagine it'd be 1:1, but everything I've heard is that it's pretty damned close to playing with M&KB on PC once you spend some time tweaking and dialing it in. You gotta set up for each game individually, but I think there are community profiles you can download as well.
And honestly, I'll probably be using it mostly for co-op shit. It really is a comfort issue with me, and I'm not really into competitive play, but I imagine I'll probably get dragged into a few matches by my friends who want to use me as an advantage. So far as I'm concerned, it's not cheating. You'll still operating within the parameters of the game as set by the developers, just using a non-standard interface. Nobody complains about people who use flight sticks for aviation, or arcade sticks for fighters, or steering wheels for racers. Hell, they don't even bitch about the "pro" controllers with extra buttons for custom macros. So why is it a problem with M&KB? There is no such thing as competitive play on living-room TVs with a controller on shooters anyhow.
3b3f54 No.16695711
>>16695363
If you're using a mouse for a console shooter it's basically cheating. It's not comparable to other games because the leap from stick aim is so huge that it's insane. Not that I'm opposed to it, I think cheating is hilarious.

people get really hung up on peripherals. any keyboard is fine, but get a quiet mechanical one if you want something nice. i like brown switches. but its completely optional and does nothing to make you any more/less effective in a game over a $5 membrane keyboard. you can spend $10 and get one that'll outlast the lettering on the keys.
a regular 2 button mouse is fine, but i guess i can see one with more buttons for certain commands and hotkeys, . finding one that you find more comfortable is more important if you find a basic mouse uncomfortable, but after that, who cares?
nothing wrong with buying a reliable product, but often basic products are just as reliable if not more reliable than premium products.

All the fully customizable buttons and simmetrical design make gaming and browsing multiple hentai tabs comfy as fuck.
Alternatively, what should I use to clean my mouse?
I've always had shitty five bucks mice, always given to me second hand, so I never cared that they became covered in slime over time, but I'm wanting to properly care for this one. I'm fearing that actual alcohol might damage it over time and that an old toothbrush might not be the best way to do it.

Get ready for the buttons to wear rapidly. You'll lose middle click and you'll get double clicking on M1/2 within a year. I've gone through three of those mice and while I love the layout I couldn't put up with the piss poor manufacturing any longer.

All those need you to stop using the WASD momentairily on actions that aren't mutually exclusive to walking. Using them on the mouse means you never have to let go of the movement keys, it's a minor thing, but it's both more efficient and comfortable.
A casual player really wouldn't know how to use those features, though.

Just keep playing any way you want if you're fine with it. Just accept that some people don't settle for less when they have the option for more.
In my case, I'm a guy that always changes the key mappings to be the more intuitive and comfortable to use. Also making macros to cut out unecessary and repetitive actions, like entering menus and having to select the same option every time to do some simple shit you do way too often.
A mouse with many buttons is fucking paradise to me. Specially in games or apps where you need to press a hotkey or combo of sorts and then click something to apply the command to or vice versa. A macro on the mouse cuts that action to just clicking the damn thing with the assignated button without even having to touch the keyboard.
It's all about the convenience. Also, only after trying and playing with a setup like this for a while, that you realize how worse the usual setups are when trying to return to them. It's kinda like trying to play an older game with default tank turning controls but that has fully working strafing functionality, it's just mapped retardly because casuals didn't realize how mouselook was vastly superior than turning keys and how strafing keys were much more useful when used with it.

They can be beneficial no doubt, but there are downsides to having mice with buttons as well, at least at the highly competitive end of things for FPS games and games that required incredibly specific and controlled mouse movements. It's likely better to switch weapons in an AFPS with your keyboard rather than your mouse since the action of pressing your mouse button can arguably impact your aim. But even as an avid AFPS player I still use the g600 because I've gotten so incredibly used to the buttons.
Really "mmo gaymin" mice shine most importantly in giving you the ability do maneuver in your general computing tasks and gaymin while still being able to fondle your testicles and twirl your taint hairs. And so it's an essential piece of equipment to me to maximize my comfy levels.

I found out something interesting with that particular model. It recalibrates every time you restart it. If you hold the stick in any direction on startup, it fucks the whole thing up. Haven't ever had that problem with the other model I have that they no longer produce.
