DMC5 isn't really that good, it's way overhyped by people like >>16662035. It's an unfinished game where either through time restraints or sheer lazyness no character has a unique final boss. The writing is also really bad even for a DMC game. Combat is… half step forward 2 steps back? Dante is pretty fun, but Nero feels half finished and V is a shitshow of "why is he even in the game". Nero is pretty much eternally half finished. His only unique mechanic in 4 was pressing a button and damage happens, then in V they gave him the ability to press a different button for something different to happen based on your current arm. And I agree that the devil arms don't seem well implemented. You have to break them to use your other ones but breaking them is also supposed to be a punishment for getting hit, so unlike every other character you're denied the full potential of your weapons unless you sacrifice your other ones.

And nero feels half finished because he doesn't play a massive amount differently than in 4. He still doesn't have any additional weapons you know like the ones that were originally planned for 4 and then cut, the Devil Bringers don't really change your playstyle that much as half of them are dumb gimmicks, his DT is meh? I was never too overwhelmed by it. So as opposed to improving him and finishing him, they just slapped a new coat of paint on him.

Also need to have giant enemies to climb up, it was clunky to downright frustrating at times (dragons, fucking pieces of sheit) but it's fun mechanic nevertheless atlesat when climbing on those giants/huge ogres or whatever they were.

The monkey's paw downside on this is that we're getting it instead of Vergil DLC and I don't know what to feel

With some creativity and compromises you could get decent fashion and still upgrade your gear but getting it just the way you wanted and not suffer the penalties was impossible.

DDO was one of the main reason a sequel wasn't going to be made. After all, with MMO you want to squeeze as much playtime out of the player base as possible. Can't agree completely with that assesment. 2 was great, even better than 1 in many aspects. Full of details and secrets, great replayability and lots of weapons and mechas. Played it tons of times. 1 is great too though.

It's definetely them trying to make their games look more appealing to the western market, but I wouldn't call it worse, at least not in a objective way, there are cases where they're definetely worse but I think it's because of fuck ups in technology like I said earlier, sure, that's not an excuse, specially since this is a huge multi-million dollar company, but I think they'll be improving on this, I won't comment on DMC5 since I haven't played it, but MHW has a nice style to it in my opinion even it if looks different than earlier games.

RE2R also looks great, they only really fucked up Claire for some reason, but you can't tell me Ada doesn't look fine as hell, and Leon is handsome too, their motion capture technology seems to have a lot of potential and I am somewhat excited for what it could mean for DD2, you also have to keep in mind that DD2 will look western no matter what, just like the first one did.

It's a big part of it, but not the entire reason, I believe this change was inevitable in the long run, these companies are constantly trying to one-up each other on the graphics department and thus we have this push for photorealism, and honestly it's easier for them to make realistic styled graphics than to go for a photorealistic japanese look, I suppose as the technology improves they might go back to a their classic Japanese style, I have no problems with their games look though.

I think is not entirely as you say. DD is famous now, but it wasn't that much of a hit initially. In fact, it sold more in Japan on release. Dragon's Dogma was a case of "mouth to mouth" success, while it didn't sell incredibly on release, more and more people share their praise of the game and gained more fame and started selling. Capcom then would be surprised when they ported it to PC and suddenly it sold very well, quite over their expectations. The MMO if I remember right had already been released at that point, which was for Japanese audiences as Capcom though there was were their main fanbase of the game was. You can compare it to Dark Souls, where From Software developers claimed to be surprised to the attention they received at E3, because Demon's Souls success was similar to DD's.

Frankly, I would love it with Coop. As how it works, I'll say something like FF Crystal Chronicles Echoes of time. You can go to other players worlds, just like the pawns and play with them, help them out, but cannot take story decision nor attack any NPC the host hasn't aggroed himself. Probably Arisen traveling through the Rift, but playing as pawns could be cool too. Of course, if Coop isn't necessary, and if is going to happen like with Xenoblade Chronicles X and the development will be fucked because of it I prefer Capcom to not even bother.
