I like games with encyclopedias, where details filled in about the world by exploring/collecting/battling/etc.

Like JRPGs with a beastiary, I love that, but games that take it that bit further with items and world locations and character bios really scratch me behind the ear.

Does anybody have any favourite games that have encyclopedias that slowly get filled in as you progress through the game?

Final Fantasy XII has a great bestiary, XIII also had a nice bestiary and glossary and character bios, for example.

Any suggestions for games with good bestiaries/encyclopedias?

Mass Effect 1. Zwei 2 has a bunch of various tidbits you can unlock, though some of it is tedious to unlock. Trails of Cold Steel has character bios for just about every character, most of which needs to be unlocked by talking to them at certain points in the games or doing certain things.

Shadow Hearts series has interesting bestiaries and item lore (though Koudelka only has the latter). Covenant and FtNW even include character bios.

From what I remember, Daggerfall has entire libraries with books you can read about the world.

If I'm not mistaken, 90%+ of The Elder Scroll's lore comes from Daggerfall.
