I am playing MGS1 right now, and you know how there's that hallway where Gray Fox slays everyone before you go to try to save Hal? There's on soldier who's breathing, and if you kneel down beside him, it shows you a special viewing angle. Am I supposed to do something here? Why would it give a special angle for it?
Vid unrelated, but it's the area I'm talking about, skip to 4:19 there. If you squat just to the south of him (the guy still breathing), it will give the angle.

after playing every MGS game I still don't really know who Grey Fox is. Are we supposed to learn who he is? The only person like him is Null from Portable Ops, and I thought that PO was completely non-canon and Null is basically a forgotten character.

I remember I played a bit of the first one on my PS1 Classic but my energy was kinda drained, like I don't really know if other people have this, but sometimes I get hyped to play a game, load in and then all my energy is gone and I exit immediately. Gray Fox is the guy you rescue in the first game (and weren't supposed to).
He's the best agent of Foxhound, Naked sends him to recon Outer Heaver then he gets captured by Venom.
Naked sends Solid to rescue him (so that he fails and report misinformation.
Except Solid unexpectedly managed to free Gray, destroy the metal gear and even win against Venom.
Later Gray Fox and Big Boss talks and he convinces him to join him in Zanzibar leading him to begrudgingly fight Solid (and lose) which he sees as his savior.
He's also Naomi Hunter brother and a child soldier from Rhodesia, his loyalty (and hers) go to Big Boss is because he (Venom) rescued them and he was so good and loyal he was handpicked by Naked for the new Foxhound.
The twist being he was never in danger in Outer Heaven and Solid didn't actually saved him.
Logically we should have met them as children (him a teen and her a child) in MGS V if it's wasn't cut of most of it's content.
That or they used most of the idea for Chico/Paz and cie in Peacekeepers as it's an eerily similar setup.

There are so many characters from other MGS games that it isn't going to make sense unless you play the others. For example the burning man is Volgin, which you wouldn't fucking be able to recognize unless you played three. Or how ocelot makes references to events in 3. There is just a lot of shit in the other games that would make MGS5's plot make a whole lot more sense. Also its basically a sequel to Peace Walker, but its only PS3 and PSP so good luck with that one. The Big Boss you play in MGS5 is the Medic who nearly dies at the end of Peace Walker, they just said to him "lmao ur snake now" The guy who helps you out of that shitty 30 minute cutscene is the actual big boss.

Huh, on one hand I kinda feel like I've spoiled the big twist for myself. But on the other from what I recall I'm pretty sure most people hated the twist. So eh, I still might actually check out MGS as a whole, though I've never really been a stealth games guy.

It's not really spoiled has people had figured it out before the game was even released and it's pretty obvious from the beginning, you just accept your character doesn't know (or does he? Because there is clearly a bit of self-doubt quickly introduced).
People not liking MGS 5 for that twist are idiots, there is plenty of reason to dislike it, but the story of how there are two big boss, of loss, loyalty, betrayal of ideals and descent into hell that will end up making Big Boss into a villain is the part that needs saving (with some of the new game mechanics and maybe two "maps").
