I've been trying to figure this game out for about a year now, playing it on and off every couple of months. Do you have to no fuck up and build the special meter? Do you have to learn how to do stands on the edge of a pipe? Do you have to buy the custom moves?
I just do whatever and can't get past like level3 in both THPS 1 and 2. (played on PSP and PS3)

THPS1 has no manual or reverts
THPS2 has no reverts, adds in more moves in general, dumb faggoty retards tout this as a great game because MUH SOUNDTRACK
THPS3 is actually proper peak tony hawk, THPS4 provides larger levels and more open gameplay, THUG continues on that but more on the 'realism' side (even though the game isn't that real), THUG2 goes apeshit but still has some great level design and a classic mode if you can't stand jackass. THAW is questionable with it's open world and I think american sk8land is a hidden gem.

I recommend Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Tony Hawk's Underground, and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground (it's severely underrated, much better than people initially gave it credit for back in 2007). Also, Thrasher: Skate and Destroy is one of the best skateboarding games ever made.

>grinding and manuals both compliment each other, they soft reset each other, if you find the meter on the manuals going crazy, grind more and vice-versa.
>revert when you go into a ramp along with spine transfers
>inverted manuals go DOWN the meter

>realize that the normal away of skating, ie getting huge air off a ramp and doing tricks is fucking stupid for score & on top of that doing manuals tricks tend to slow you down
>you spam tricks to increase the multiplier, you don't spam it to increase the amount of score from that move until you absolutely exhaust the roulette of moves you have (might as well spam it due to the nature of multiplying, ie get a bigger brain to do the math), special moves have huge amount of score
>then there's forward/backwards rolling in later games
>if you're still thirsting for more, learn more advanced moves like buttslaps, boostplanting, airshuffles and learning the quirks of the game's physics

I believe Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1-4 set the standard for skateboarding games and SSX Tricky/3 for snowboarding games, and to make games better than that requires far more talent and vision than any company is willing to fund.

as a kid when playing Underground 1 I did find a glitch, there is the cheat Cool Specials which makes the game slow motion when ever you perform a special trick.
If you wipe out when the in the middle of the trick and slow motion then the Slow mo effect is permanent.
It's been a while since i'v done it but I think that's how it works.
