Digimon has multiple decent entries already. The core gameplay isn't terrible, though some really are bad (e.g. Rumble All-Stars). The problem is that they have oversights that ruin them (e.g. copious amounts of level grinding and/or slow battles, lack of explanations, hidden information, frustrating aspects that could have been easily fixed). To give you some examples:

Even Digimon Championship, which is essentially mobileshit not fit for a console in 2008, could have fared a lot better: just a glorified multi-digimon v-pet with AI-controlled battles. No exploration, no plot, no events, no villains or rivals. just raise, watch digimon battle, win, rinse and repeat. days last only 3 real-time minutes, retarded 99 per-item cap and lack of auto-restock, limited digimon capacity (several battles require specific digimon), hard to keep digimon team alive to coincide with tournaments, frustrating digimon capture and handling controls, only gives vague hints about evolutions, battles are completely automated despite it being a video game, not a toy.

Could they, though? I got the impression that the Devas even bothered to try the contract thing with Impmon because they were basically on their last legs and willing to try anything at that point. Impmon is set up why he chooses to do something fucked up, he tries to fulfill his bargain, loses anyway and sees how evil he was when he is granted mercy.

He is no way let off easily in Tamers, he almost commits suicide in one scene, desperately tries to save Juri and dies there almost too. He doesn't even expect forgiveness and just wants to try and save Juri.

Its why one is great writing and the other one is just mediocre. One character has guilt over things he didn't choose, the other one is desperate, takes what he wants at a great cost and he utterly regrets every bit of it.

I would say still subbed. The Dubs were ok for what they were but subbed has the original music and even more important then that is has SILENCE whereas the dub has talking during the quiet parts. Adventure is first and foremost a children's show, but is definitely one of the best of its kind. Xros Wars and Savers are watchable, but suffer from some anime cliches and worse writing than the first two. The rest are various levels of bland. Frontier is dragged down by the characters repeatedly hitting their head against a brick wall without actually learning from their failures or even acknowledging them. Hunter-tachi has the worst protagonist in any of the series while also having a very small cast. 02 has mostly bland characters and a plot that could have ended at nearly any point had the children gone after the source of the problem of the week. Several plot threads were dropped unceremoniously the moment they started to show actual potential, the finale was incredibly anticlimactic and the epilogue was incredibly poorly thought out. Watch 02 only if you want to see a 17 hour long trainwreck.

I've used it before, and I will say the only flaw is if you abuse the Digitamamon glitch, it can fuck up the priority because I'm pretty sure the game doesn't expect you to max out your stats, especially not at, for example, either of your baby stages. But if you're not breaking the game then it works perfectly fine. Does Next Order have an exploit to max stats easily, I know Re: Digitize Decode has an underflow glitch.

I really want to like DW2, but it's got too many flaws to be enjoyable. Aside from the stuff you mentioned
