A bit late to be replying, but IIRC I wanted to post this a while ago.
The biggest thing the Pokemon did to push the Pokemon brand that is not scrutinized as much as it deserves to be was the decision to make all the Pokemon say their names instead of make animal sounds.
It helped cement brand awareness of every fucking Pokemon in the minds of the children who watched the show, and, to a lesser extent the mind of the parents who were forced to sit through the movie with them.

I bought 2 in the off chance that they would go up in price in a few years, but I doubt it will end up going for anything more then I bought it for and wouldn't mind using it to get the Digimon that requires connecting to different players.

That's not DW but Digimon Championship, which has no exploration, no story, and completely automated battles. Literally consists of feeding and cleaning shit (until you get a farm), buying medicine, training, and hoping the AI doesn't fuck you over in battles.
If you're going down the strawman route I could also say mainline pokemon sucks ass because it's literally the same rehashed game every gen with new a coat of paint and you spend more time breeding your team than playing.

You can also stop pretending Pokemon videogames are anything special. Anyone can just emulate the first Final Fantasy games and see essentially the same game: a party–turn-based game about exploration and following a linear story that unlocks sections of the game as you get upgrades after beating the local boss with your team growing in power and unlocking moves as you grind XP.
One of the FF games (forgot if it was 2 or 3) even had the ability to feed your party members parts of the enemies you defeat, turning them from Humans into Mutants or Cyborgs, with each of these being good at Magic, Skills or Attack respectively. Can you say "element type" with me?
You should also known by now (since everyone else does) that Pokemon never was meant to be a serious franchise and the IV point bullshit was supposed to make the same mons perform differently for some unknown reason so kids would get this sense of depth from the game. It was lazy but it was enough for kids, it never was meant to be re-engineered into the nightmare grind that the fans (not GF) made of the whole thing.
You should also be aware that both the Digimon and the Pokemon franshise have a different audience, goal and theme to it. Despite both being monster-raising games, they are so different from each other that even trying to compare them is idiotic. It'd be the same as comparing soccer with basketball because both are sports and have a ball.
More specifically, Digimon is for a more mature audience that wants to see character growth and mythological references in their games\anime with playing videogames that involve careful planning and exploration, understanding how to best train your digimon and manage your costs while doing so with ups and downs both in your finances and on your mon's power.
Meanwhile, Pokemon is for gacha fags that think they are saving money by spending a large chunk of it at launch but still spend their time collecting sprites and using only 1% of them to actually play the game, where they battle against random mobs until they can beat the local gym so they can finnaly learn a move that lets them cut a tree or smash a boulder and move onto the next town until reaching the final tower that's basically a boss rush, all of this while playing the most boring, predictable and overdone JRPG clone that has ever been seen.
When even DW3 did this whole schtick better than Pokemon, you gotta know you fucked off. Even the Digimon card game is miles better than the Pokemon one and this could apply to either the actual card game or the one that's part of DW3!

That's SaGa 2, probably. It got a DS remake and there's a fan translation if you want to try it some time. The SaGa franchise is also really fucking weird, if you want to look into it.

Never tried SaGa and I'm telling you that FF1, or 2 or 3 did that as well. I played it when I was a teen and had a PC so shit that a GameBoy emulator was the best I could run. Always wanted to see what the hub hub was all about regarding that franchise but I couldn't emulate the PSX ones so figured I'd start from the first ones and kill God for funsies.
Can't tell which one it was but I do remenber getting an airship eventually to fly around and getting "Monster Meat" or "Cyborg Parts" at the end of combat to provoke these mutations.

Later you use Platinum Numemon (same deal, just better) to grind characters up to their maxed out level/stats, which takes a couple hours.

Does not exist in Complete Edition. Complete does not have exactly the same "DLC" as the other editions, but what it has is available to everyone regardless of the date of purchase or additional purchases (which do not exist).

I mentioned on normal, you can get away with maybe 30 minutes to an hour of grinding and be set for the entire game, absolutely stomping everything without thought. Pick your poison whether you want a game that's too easy, or one that's disgustingly unfair. Fortunately you can change difficulties at any time.

Just Finished Cyber Sleuths main story, here are my thoughts.
Pros:
