Damn, been wanting to see that Sonic ice cream commercial again for years. I know I tried that stuff at least once but since it was first taste of pop rock style candy it seemed kinda weird.
Some years later, had a school tour at the company that produced the ice cream and the question of "why did they stop making it?" came up and they claimed it didn't sell well, despite a lot of classmates mentioning they had liked it and wanting it to come back.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a simply way of saying to us kids back then of "licensing costs to SEGA is why we stopped making it."
