Since 2007 people have developed a bad habit of shitting all over older franchises. Unless it's Mario, Zelda or some other oddity, you are pretty much guaranteed bad reviews for any franchise older than 2007=
This is because of a literally unholy alliance of Xbots, Sony Ponies, companies that pay shills, CoD fanboys and similar gamers who want to berate and demean every franchise that came before CoD 4: MW.
In fact, most reviewers of today have their roots in the mid-late 2000s when the console wars were at their peak and people were bullied into supporting Xbox 360 or PS3 over the Wii. The mildest form of abuse was ridicule, and the more harsher forms included verbal abuse, emotional abuse and social isolation.
There is literally a social apartheid against classic gamers, niche gamers, Nintendo fans, SEGA fans so much so that Jim Sterling deliberately gave BOTW a low score to bring it down from 98 on metacritic, all the while calling Nintendo a shit distributor and fuckhead toymaker. Metacritic's boss (a slave of the Xbot/Pony site called ShitSpot) soon praised Jim Sterling for his abuse.
While the ultimate goal of most may only be to show the superiority of shooters, realistic racers etc., deliberately damaging the review scores of other franchises will cause their eventual death. In fact many franchises HAVE ALREADY BEEN KILLED by these ponies. And many of them want to see all who threaten their dominance destroyed.

I've been replaying Twilight Princess lately and it's really fucking good. It's at least in the same league as the other 3D Zeldas, if not as good or better. I really wonder why it has such a bad reputation(by Zelda standards anyway). It's usually regarded as only slightly better than Skyward Sword and the DS games.

Twilight Princess did manage a 95-96 on metacritic despite the hate, but the seeds had been sown. The HD remake got an 85, while fucking Shadow of the Colossus's HD remake still got a 90+
It's not just about old vs new, but about Nintendo vs the rest. Nintendo is the company which had a monopoly over the classics, and the best-rated games before the mid-2000s almost always came from Nintendo. TP has a bad reputation now because of hatred against Nintendo

1. Obviously reviewers are going to review new games highly because they want to sell them and they are actually in production (this was a bigger problem in the 00s before steam, zoomie)
2. Reviews aren't everything and being upset about them is stupid. The power of the Review wasn't just a stupid number, it was getting placement in a print magazine in the first place. A shit game that got two spreads (4 pages) plus ads probably did better than a good game that only got a single number and 250 characters of text. This is basic advertising.
3. Nintendo is just as (((affected))) as the rest and don't deserve to be defended, especially when their console is clearly subpar to everything else. The only reason to buy a Nintendo is for Smash, Mario and Zelda. This is a very limited offering.
4. Those franchises died because they didn't have mass market appeal. COD, GT and Madden make for easy christmas presents with the latter two not having anything parents would find objectionable but would still interest an adult. Not everyone wants to play boxed PC games, but guess what even then Steam came along and pissed on this entire model. Same for the stores Google and Apple offer.

The goal of any eceleb worth his salt is to entertain his audience, which has the side effect of them seeking answers from him. Being exposed to someone's opinion hurts a lot less if you aim to agree with every word they say, so whatever comes out of the mouths of Doug Walker, Noah Antwiler and so on immediately becomes gospel for someone strictly looking to maximise their enjoyment from their content.
With the whole survival thing taken care of, the priorities of those living in Western civilisations have shifted towards preserving safety and experiencing amusement. Religion as a survival mechanism isn't needed anymore in these regions and has become a lot more superficial as a result, but the common cur still needs something to give them direction. Thing is, their minds aren't stimulated by the challenging elements of nature anymore, so they need stimulus along with those directions.
Cutting through a monolithic wall of text isn't most people's ideas of fun, even if that text may contain an essay far more profound and insightful than anything squeezed into some ten minute YouTube vid. Most people are lazy, so they'll grip onto whatever presents its content in the most entertaining way possible, which is often what reaches them first because content that is stimulating and easy to process will inevitably gain popularity and make the rounds.
Being a content creator is not only rewarding in terms of wealth and fame but also in garnering a dedicated following who (mostly) take in your every word. You feel a little safer knowing there's people out there who definitely agree with you (because you told them to and they wanted to) and your audience is a little safer with the knowledge that the guy who's been entertaining them is someone they can agree with - someone who doesn't challenge them and make them feel unsafe - and knowing there's others who also agree with that someone. It's a surreal expression of our survival instincts, to say the least.
This phenomenon isn't exclusive to ecelebs at all, but is common in any accessible media. It's so common these days to see some celebrity speak out against Trump or whatever because that's what gives their audience something to feel emotion over - something to at least feel like they're working toward. As if any dumb college kid has done a thing for whatever vapid cause they saw on a Facebook post (besides get offended because some dude said the word white), but, as long as they feel like good people for reciting what their gods taught them, they'll feel affirmed with a sense of purpose. Actors get their point across far better than any saint could have. Comedians like Jon Stewart make for much better politicians than the average senator. These days, fame is divinity.

it looks way more comic-book ish. aesthetics aside, the series "game play" is tired and broken. side note, I felt most of the dungeons in OOT looked horrible from a visual standpoint and the so-called "puzzles" are more gimmicky and annoying then fun or engaging. and now that I think about it, the color pallet in the game doesn't match the art you posted and the models are so gimped the concept art doesn't don't really come through very well (if at all), but thats more the fault of Nintendo's hardware I guess…

There's a lot of interesting ideas going around in the industry that may or may not indicate that certain genres or video game tropes are indeed favorable within the review sphere, which still unfortunately holds quite a bit of importance in the industry. Rather than state the usual disdain certain critics seem to have for parts of the medium or the abhorrent skill some of them have displayed. Instead, i'd rather look at how reviews being thrown at us so fast with said journalists barely having time to review the games in question.
This is a problem because, while some games do not necessarily suffer from being consumed so fast, others on the other hand require a certain amount of commitment to appreciate, and may be expected to live up to predecessors & leaders of a genre on more intricate levels than what critics usually go over. I don't believe that going over such matters for the more educated users looking for a critic is a loss in itself: In fact, i'd say it's part of a good Game Journalist/Critic to be able to write articles showing knowledge while remaining accessible. Other games are also highly dependant on their community who will eventually become the remaining core that still plays the game: Fair warnings of what's to come for those purchasing the game late looking into the online would be appreciated.
I just don't really think the Game Industry is that suited to the current ways of reviewing Games. I'd also say the means of consumption of certain consumers have gotten worse, potentially harmful as a whole.
