FF1and FF2 got ok remakes on the Game Boy Advance. FF3 also got a good remake for the Nintendo DS. FF4 on the DS is obviously a fantastic remake. And now, the upcoming FF7 remake is shaping up to be a very fun FF15-esque game.

Do I think Square Enix can pull off an amazing FF8 remake if they wanted to? Yes. No doubt. But honestly, above all else, I want them to first do a FF6 remake next after they're finished with 7. It's still the best Final Fantasy game they ever made and it deserves that much, at least.

It's not a remake, it's just going to be another shitty HD remaster ported to mobile phones, ported to consoles and then ported to PC. Just like Chrono Trigger, FF3, FF4 (technically 3 and 4 where phoneports of an actual Nintendo DS remake) etc.

As others have said this is a remaster. FF8 really does need a genuine remake though to refine the story into something that flows better with more punch and uses its characters better. The game mechanics need work too because they are pretty bland and broken very easily.

FF7 is the one that just needed a remaster. Re-draw all the background screens to fit entirely new character models (merge map/battle character models). Remake all the cinematics and re-record all the music in higher quality with modern instruments. Everything under the hood though, and the core gameplay, should have remained the same.

I feel like we should be paying more attention to OpenVIII so we never have to re-buy this fucking game again:

Looks very, very weak. Like one of those demos they can be done with just one or two people shown on youtube. Made almost no changes besides having it run on PS4 in an emulation with an algorithm that upscales and makes it look slightly better. This could be done with a few dozen programming hours and they are going to collect millions for it and have us act like it's a remake.

There is no FF8 remake. There should be, but it's going to run on ps4 and be upscaled. Look 90 percent the same with little or no changes to much of anything except for maybe FMV, or new menus. Nothing we should be excited about at all. They have already done this a few times before. FF8 running on PS4 is literally about all this is. 10,000 percent profit margin project for them. They should have given us much, much more at this point.

I think it's a waste of time and of no interest to pc gamers, since we can already emulate the game at 4K 60 FPS, with all the advantages of emulators (speed control, savestates, etc) that those remasters wont have
