Just be aware that you’re going to have to get an SCART cable or component cables for any system you want to use it with in addition to the device it’s self. it also doesn’t come with a power cord by default, so you’ll have to by a 5v dc connector too.

>>16629514

>So why would you buy this instead of a CRT?

CRTs are an aging technology with lots of drawbacks and they are almost imposable to repair for the average user. finding one in good condition is harder then you think. not to mention getting RGB quality from a CRT in most places outside the UK is impossible without modifying the CRT itself, an OSSC is RGB ready out of the box. large CRTs are super heavy and rare. large flat panel displays are lightweight and easy to find new. not to mention you don't have to worry about geometry issues. (regardless, I use both CRTs and LCDs in my game room).

I hate to say this (Since you seem to know more than I do), but you're wrong as evidenced by all those pictures you have. NONE of those pictures have a grill running across the screen (Which most scanline shaders/filters are). What they DO have is "individual pixels" with their horizontal separation more visible than their vertical separation (Not to mention, there's a more "uniform" line running vertically across the screen, separating the "pixels", than horizontally).

I not sure what you're trying to argue, its a known fact that the "scanline effect" is more pronounced by the line count of the tube. the pictures you posted look like typical shadow mask CRT's with a 350TVL. pixels are digital not analogue. what you're describing as "pixels" are just CRT phosphor dots and they will look different depending on the technology used in the CRT.

3e097d  No.16632417

>>16632383

The SNES outputs a raw 8:7 display which gets forced to 4:3 on televisions. Artists often didn't think about that (or didn't want to bother with scaling things to be transformed), and so their art got warped by the aspect ratio change. Really puts to bed the argument often used by filter autists that artists purposely drew everything to be mangled in a special way by CRTs.

You should really research what the ossc does before freaking out. The scanline function is really just an afterthought. It's a modern-day line multiplier, has zero input lag With complete RGB and component video support at at full 4:4:4 processing (do you even understand why that's important?) along with a 15-pin d-sub for VGA sources. Modern displays are getting rid of their analog ports, That's just one of the many issues the ossc solves for people that need a digitizer. I'm really surprised at all the dumb comments saying the OSSC is just a filter/scanline machine. If that was the case it wouldn't cost over two hundred bucks. you could just get a $20 GBS board and Flash it with custom firmware if you wanted cheap digital scan lines

OSSC is just an analogue to digital video converter. Scanlines are included for anyone who wants them, but they're 100% optional. Converters like the OSSC are typically used to convert a format that a TV or monitor doesn't support as American devices don't support SCART, and component support for any region is getting rarer. (Same applies for S-Video as well, but OSSC doesn't support that.) I'd love a CRT if I had space for one at the moment. Video converters are the next best solution when a real CRT isn't an option.

if you know how to adjust the geometry settings it shouldn't be a problem. (some times you need to find the hidden repair menu to fix it. most CRTs have these even PC crt's, I had to do this with an NEC-Mitsubishi Diamond Plus VGA monitor last year) also, only some resolutions might be effected along with some sync settings. for instance if you set it to 640x480 and you see this problem with normal H-V- sync give the other sync types a try. (I've seen that fix the problem on some DEL VGA monitors without much fuss)

>What makes this warrant the hefty price-tag?

why does nobody just go to the OSSC site and look up what it does? anyway the FPGA the OSSC uses is a much more powerful processor then whats in the retrotink. retrotink only outputs 480p. (as its only a basic line doubler) also it can't process or pass-thru other 480p signals like xbox, gamecube, wii or ps2. since all you care about is composite video that shouldn't mater much to you. you want to make sure you're getting the latest RetroTINK-2X hardware version with updated firmware (as its a pain in the ass to update on your own). older versions have some very annoying bugs with sound sampling. (I use my RetroTINK-2X mostly for N64 s-video, and my OSSC for everything else RGB/Component/VGA)
