The thing that really pisses me off about Zombie games is that none of them are actually set during the start of the outbreak and the actual collapse of society. It's just "everything's already fucked, but you've survived up to now". Soyny Cinematic Experiences™ relating to zombies always have the prologue set during the collapse, but then timeskip to later and it infuriates me to no end.

Because if you saw things during the outbreak, it'd be ridiculous. You can sort of suspend disbelief when you cut ahead, past the initial outbreak and into the post-apocalyptic side of things. It'd be real easy to lock down a zombie virus. Soldiers kitted out in thick gear so they can't be scratched or bitten, face masks to prevent any fluids from entering their mouths, eyes, nose etc. House to house, killing the zombies and sending the survivors into quarantine camps.

Sounds fun as fuck, but what I want more is games where you can play as the zombie like Stubb's. Seriously, there is a decent amount of things you can do with zombies but every fucking developer and their mother has to do the same survival game. It's tiring. Dead Rising, Stubbs the Zombie, and Left 4 Dead are perfect examples of zombie games that are different and funand also some of my favorite games.

It was pretty alright in the World War Z book, the only issue is you'd have to have an army that either isn't well equipped enough, or gets overconfident, since they're just zombies, then proceeds to eat shit. Shit man, you could absolutely make a zombie game set during the fall of society in some rural province of southern Europe or China, or god forbid Africa.

I still think the first State of Decay game is great, since they didn't go all out on "muh realism" and "muh food/water bars", while having a comfy world and good combat.

Atom Zombie Smasher is a game where you play as the government fighting an outbreak and saving civilians. It is pretty decent and well worth a pirate. (dev went faggy during GG)

Anyway, the reason you don’t see it often is that zombie apocalypse shit is just a normalfag power fantasy. They rather be ruffing it out with there friends than be a cog in a machine saving society. That and devs/publishers don’t have the balls to go against trends.

It's funny, because the multiplayer mode the best part of that game lets you play as Hunters or Fireflies, and has a brief description for both when you're picking a side. For hunters, it's something along the lines of "murderers, looters, ambushers who live in the abandoned cities, preying on travelers and etc. etc.." and for the Fireflies it's "They're rebels against the gubmint and they rebel against the gubmint and shit".

Think about a game where you are responsible for ensuring the communism doesnt ruin your town. You close borders. You think up chekpoints, RWDS. Maintain clean water and power and everytime you fuck up maybe at 2am little timmy wakes up to find daddy is giving mommy a Che Guevara shirt and both spread to the neighbouring houses because daddy was bitten by a commie that got through a gap in the stream you use for water. Maybe this time you send in the posse and you contain it. Maybe you dont and a whole section of town is lost and you pull back to either retake it later or cut your losses.

The fuck does this even mean? The only M16 infamy I'm aware of is that they apparently jammed a lot in Vietnam, which no shit it was a new weapon used in a climate it wasn't tested for to fight a war that was a planned loss.

I think the story in Dying Light was somewhat like this. Play play as an agent sent to the quarantined city to help research the virus, and in the end it turns out the government wants to weaponize it instead of creating a cure.

For some reason I misread that as "the M16 can't take a bayonet" so yeah, this stuff isn't news to me. If that book you're talking about is the one I think it is then holy shit yes it's retarded. I remember a chapter about how the best way to kill hordes of zombies would be to get a bunch of guys prone in the bed of an electric pickup, because fuel makes too much noise you see, with no mention of barricades, positioning or anything actually tactical. It's like the guy thought a zombie onslaught would play out like a random battle in a JRPG.
