Pirate themed RPG sequels seem to be cursed but I liked it. Risen 3 in particular, which was very fun.

Yeah 2 has its problems… A lot of people complained that there was no way to block monsters so they added the roll dodge to the PC version which from what I heard made it too easy… I played the console versions obviously so we never got the dodge roll but what I never understood is why people didn't realize that is what the kick is for. If you kick monsters with the right timing it will push them back and cancel their attack animation. For that reason I am kind of glad I played the console peasant versions.

Risen 3 is probably better than 3 but I personally thought the theme was presented better in 2.

Frustrated Fernando put up this god awful video on Risen 3 where he gets his ass kicked and screams about how shit the game is because he has no idea what the fuck he is doing and is just trying to button mash which will get your rekt in PBs games

The "shrine" is pretty gay, I know. I just wanted to see what reaction I would get to posting it. Posters been up for a while but I just stuck the rest of the shit up there on a whim a week or two ago.

But my love for both is 100% genuine and while yes, the console versions are inferior, it's the way I experienced both for the first time and so I will always love them.

I only vaguely remember Risen, I never actually finished 2 or 3, but I know I got past the early areas and generally only quit because the games got tedious rather than hard. One thing I do remember is never ever play melee. In ANY Risen game or Elex, and probably Gothic too but I haven't seriously played any of those, melee is garbage and there's always a ranged weapon that just kills everything with no skill required.

I actually have played both. And they're amazing games no doubt. Better than Risen 2 and 3 but they don't have a piratical theme and the charm they do for me
