For hacking TIS-100 and hacknet are supposed to be alright, then again you can just as well actually fire up ghidra or radare2 and get yourself a crackme

TIS-100 is just about a guy in his garage fixing his dead uncle's weird computer using multithreaded 16-core ASM.
Exapunks is about a hacker in the future infected with a degenerative disease, hacking shit for an AI to get anti-cyberAIDS meds.
They're both more about writing code to transform data into other data, but Exapunks at least themes it as hacking and infiltration.
Hacknet is more about actual simulated hacking of other computer systems, and Uplink is what it's inspired by although Uplink is superior if you ask me.

Uplink is superior to all other hacking games, which is a shame considering how outdated and limited it is. Dunno why nobody has ever expanded on the concept.

As I said, it's a Zachtronics game. This particular one has you writing code for nanobots that can replicate and move through networks, usually to find and/or change particular data on said network. It's very much not a terminal based H4X73HPL4N37 simulator, more a programming problem solving game with hacking flavor.
It's good though, I'd at least give it "a try"

Hacknet is neat, but far more simplistic than the reigning champion of the genre, namely Uplink.
As for TIS-100, pretty much every other Zachtronics game is about building machines (or code) to solve a particular problem, but Shenzen I/0 and Exapunks are the two other games with a focus on coding and electronics.

Zachtronics games are always puzzle games rather than sandboxes/simulations like Uplink. You have lots of freedom, but only to solve one crafted problem.
As for hacking themes, TIS-100 is hacking by definition. Modifying a computer to dig into it, is the essence of hacking. Bypassing security and entering other systems is also part of hacking, but more specifically "cracking".
Anyways, the best Zachtronics games capture the feeling of working as a hacker (or a creative programmer type) for some corporation who doesn't understand your work. It's a more humorous approach which works better in a game, since you get more guided level/puzzle design and difficulty curve. Being left on your own, like in Uplink, can get old, or leave you overwhelmed when shit hits the fan (not necessarily a bad thing)

There's a very old (DOS age, about same time as Shadow President) and realistic nuclear war game called "Bravo Romeo Delta". It goes into detail regarding nuclear war I have never seen another game go into. Goal is to knock out the enemies (USA or USSR, can choose both sides) nuclear capabilities while getting yourself as little damage as possible. You wanna do what Wargames claimed was not possible, namely win a nuclear war while avoiding nuclear armageddon.
It's realistic in the way that you can only see what your systems and military bases reporting etc. give you as feedback and that there's also sometimes wrong feedback by your early warning systems or military bases. The more the situation deteriorates, the blinder you go and the more unreliable reports get. It also goes into detail about different nuke launch platforms (from bomber to icbm to sub to mobile) and defensive systems and satellite systems and such. Highly interesting game but difficult and very outdated interface. Don't even try to play it without manual. Would love to see that one remade but it won't happen. Defcon is a child's toy in comparison. I never won BRD, it might actually not be possible and that might be the message. It's interesting and in-depth nonetheless.
The only good hacking game is uplink. Loved how that actually had kind of a breathing world and you could do shit like get people arrested. The hacking games that are just about solving set problems don't compare.

Exapunks is one of the easiest Zachtronics games if you ask me, though I think I may have played it before it got patched to remove something I used a bunch.
Opus Magnum is the easiest, Exapunks second, then Infinifactory (the most subjective one because it requires 3D spatial thinking, easier for some than others), then TIS-100 and Shenzhen I/O, then finally Spacechem
In my opinion at least. I hae experience with Assembly, whereas spacechem's 2D grid grabbing and rotating stuff is foreign to me and doesn't compute as well. I also like his older games, like KOHCTPYLTOP and Ruckenginur, but they're a lot jankier.

This one weird froggie global politics game which had the weirdest anti-pirate system. You could not plant anything on a global map that required manual clicking. Everything else worked just fine. It was released around '08 for french army or something.
The game was a bloody fire! You could control almost every internal political thing from lowering taxes on pesticides (and getting farmers road block you for a whole month) to building extra supply of tanks (and getting war protestors road block you). Road block and protesting is an integral part of french culture and this game shows it very well.
Map overview only allowed global map with little to no zooming to experience soldier icons moving over tiles.
External politics was pure and unadulturated shit. It was probably meant as a multiplayer game, but presidental 'meetings' are a joke (just like real life) and serves no purpose except make those saudis buy your fucking oil.
For some reason the default american force is a joke bent on bending over, i could easily steal few of their north productive states when they declared a war on my ass. In contrast: united european forces kicked ass quite strongly. Would not protect Iran again.
