As we all know in CY+11 games have been ruined in every aspect imaginable which includes the progression system of the game.

How would you do one?

>what's the genre?

>how do you "power up"?

>what do you gain from it?

>when will it end?

Mine would be a relic system in a Indiana John's type of game but with more emphasis on combat.

After you complete a dungeon you'll get rewarded with a relic that has a blessing but also has a curse.

For example:

>you can dodge more effectively

<but you'll never be able to parry

In the beginning you will only be able to equip one relic but after a certain point you'll be able to equip two and by the end three.

I'd do it like most cuhrayzee games. You either unlock new moves through in-game money or through progressing, and there'll be no flat stat increases like more damage, armor, hp and shit.

In my opinion upgrades should always add an effect or a use to the thing being upgraded, and very rarely being stat boosts.

BOTW-style where they give you everything you need at the start of the game, but it's harder, requiring you to actually use your abilities creatively to win. Instead of "use the magnet to put this conspicuous metal ball into an equally conspicuous nearby hole to get a meaningless collectible," you'd need to utilize your special abilities in quick succession just to survive encounters.

Or think of a cuhrazy action game where the combat is like Skate. You don't learn new combos, you'd make your own out of the component movements and anything they allow. Maybe you could gain more stamina throughout the game to chain your attacks together longer, but the main thing holding you back would be your own imagination instead of the game not letting you have a move yet.
