f69a78  No.16599478

The last week i've been borrowing a friends copy of The Division 2. I played the first and while it was bland i think the snow buried manhattan setting kept me playing since i've always been a sucker for games like Lost Planet that use snow as a hazardous setting over desert or jungles. Its just an aesthetic fetish i guess.

But i've completed everything bar the raid in tier 5 content and honestly? eh. It gets a shrug. It had some moments but honestly? its the most solid 6/10 game i've played in a hot minute. No crashes. No bugs. I pointed the gun at the thing and it felt okay till i ran out of shit to do.

Maybe the setting being more visually generic post collapse looking white noise is part of it. Maybe the change to armour, healing and skills was another. Its okay. Its fine. But its totally uninteresting and does nothing worth talking about at all. I didn't care about the setting, the characters, the story, the music. It looked pretty, it was far less bullet spongy but at the end of it all i just felt nostalgic for the new york setting and its underground and i didn't pay for either of these. It was a free experience making me nostalgic for another free experience with no money down to skew my view on it.

I gave it back to my friend and felt done but didn't feel like 'boy i gotta play that again some day'. What games do you consider bad not because they are trash and badly made but purely because they are complete beige tier uninteresting by the numbers noise with no stand out redeeming qualities worth noting?

The storyline is trash but the game is made for pvp duh

811089  No.16599635

I feel like that describes the majority of Ubisoft games. They're just the same generic, boring ,monotonous gameplay repeated over and over again. If you've played one of their games, you've played them all.

That's absolutely wrong. The game is made for incredibly easy PVEfaggotry because reddit cried enough, and the PVP has been butchered completely. In the first game, you'd do PVE shit to put together cool builds to take to the Dark Zone PvPvE area, or the PVP mode which nobody played because it was shit. You'd grind out a set of gear, you'd slap some shit together, and you'd style on faggots to steal their loot then do jumping jacks on their corpses while they impotently scream into the local voice chat in their mongoloid accents. The builds themselves were important for PVP, but player skill played a big part and there were a lot of things you could do to win 1v4 fights or outplay faggots. And in groups, you had healers, tanks, etc. and they were all useful for PVP.

Compared to the second game, where builds don't matter at all for PVP since stats are normalized, skills are less powerful, or outright useless, so everyone runs the same two, the movement is terrible so you can't dodge or try to avoid people, and everyone drops in four or so bullets, so entire fights are decided by who shoots first.

I didn't actually play the second game, but I have a shitload of time in the first, mostly because the world was comfy to explore

Anyways, for uninteresting games, just take a list of Warhammer games released in the last year or two and throw a dart at it. 90% chance it lands at some mediocre turn based strategy, pseudo-card game or diablo clone.

Two Worlds 1 to 2 is a classic example. First game is hilariously busted to the point it makes Oblivion actually look good while the second actually tries and just ends up being uninteresting despite having a really neat magic system.

It's been a problem for the past 12 years: A game gets hyped up, turns out to be very bland or very short, and then it's never cared about or mentioned again.

This has been going on for far longer than 12 years. The problem is that it's become much, much more frequent in that time.

>much eastern shit

Fuck off with that 4cuck-tier faggotry. Octopath is a perfect example of this thread of being a bad game because it is uninteresting as opposed to being broken/buggy.

For a game that tries so hard to harken to the old sprite-based days when JRPGs were actually good, it somehow failed in the worst way: Of living up to its own namesake. Everything about this game is average in every conceivable way, with perhaps the only memorable part being its soundtrack. Every character's gimmick overlaps, nobody has more than two text bubbles of exposition, and there is no interaction between anyone beyond generic text. How can a fucking game like Seiken Densetsu 3 get this formula right 25 years ago, yet this piece of shit can't, despite having more overall resources to achieve those things three-fold? May as well just call it "The Adventures of Cyrus and his band of three mute dipshits." since that's what the whole thing boils down to. Must feel pretty bad to anyone who dropped $60 on what is ultimately a proof-of-concept.

Honestly, I find that many eastern games that are popular on 4chan and 8chan tend to be really boring games. Most final fantasy games are mechanically boring to play and the plot isn't all that engaging as well. Eastern games have the same pool of boring games like the west. The only difference is that eastern games tend to have some cute waifu characters that might hold you through the game.

Some truth to this, but a lot of "waifu" games tickle me with little details put into them, and often their core concepts are things I think have potential, but fail in execution. I can play such games, even the really badly executed ones, and enjoy it. Same for games that can be broken in hilarious ways or plain trainwrecks. The truly unplayable games are like the OP says: Bland and uninteresting that do not provoke any emotion. Rage is an example of this. Chasm is another one.

>They're just the same generic, boring ,monotonous gameplay repeated over and over again. If you've played one of their games, you've played them all.

not really. sure, most of them follow the open world formula, but they're still different enough. division is third person diablo, watchdogs is a gta clone, far cry is well.. far cry etc. ubisoft also supports their games mostly for free even when they bomb instead of dropping it and shitting out a sequel, and hardly any of the lootbox shit besides cosmetics (which you can usually grind ingame anyway).

in div2 case massive just fucked with the formula to the point it is boring. div1 had longterm goals and ways to keep you playing because you wanted to max your gear, then try a new one etc, none of that exists in div2. why bother with most of the loot if you can hardly improve or even use it? when you sell most of your drops you know you made a shit lootershooter. under the hood it's even worse with retarded design decisions every meter - at least it's somewhat playable compared to div1 at launch, that shit was anthem tier.

>>16599662

>builds don't matter at all for PVP since stats are normalized

that's just a crutch to get people into pvp, in div1 everybody was running around with maxed BIS which is exactly the same.

they also fucked with builds often enough, remember how striker outclassed every other set for weeks?

Div2 tried to make skills more useful earlier, but what they ended up doing was making skills incredibly boring. Sure if you stack up all the skill damage on all your gear you can have a single cluster bomb almost kill a random mook on heroic, but it's nearly impossible to raise it past that at all because skill power does so little, and the hard CD cap means you can't really run a skill build with any sort of efficiency.

Not to mention the absurd ranges on high level gear, fucking 9-15k damage on a 490 chatterbox for example.

The underground isn't amazing but its pretty fun. You and 3 friends in some spooky underground network of tunnels and sometimes you stumble on some shit like a rave. The closest i got in my time with the sequel was one of the tiny underground shortcuts had a huge gater creeping around a corner down the end of a gated off tunnel. Why these 'schlooters' fear adding enemies like animals rather than shootbangers astounds me. Its like when Halo Reach added one giant alien Evovle reject looking wild animal you fight and theres nothing like it in the rest of the series.

Which is funny considering how much effort they put into online shenanigans. Had they kept the single player and no lootbox train rolling they might actually be able to churn out a decent profit per game instead of being forced to support every flop years after release.
