Seeing as Banjo-Kazooie now has an inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I thought this would be a good opportunity to discuss the Banjo-Kazooie series overall and other Rare titles. I've been concerned about Rare themselves for awhile now, the new Battletoads honestly doesn't look all that great, it's artstyle looks horrendous in fact. And their latest attempts have been lackluster to say the least such as Sea of Thieves and the new Killer Instinct with their shoehorned online content. But there also comes a hint of good news in the fact they seem to be more open about sourcing their IPs to other developers.

Do you think a Banjo-Kazooie comeback is possible, considering the reception of their reappearance in Smash Bros? Do you have any fond memories with the series? Do you have an opinion on Nuts & Bolts and the future of the series or Rare?

Rare has decided to grow along with society, and you know what society is now. I seriously implore everyone to stop fucking fawning over old games, they're not coming back, they will never come back, just because the developers are still alive doesn't mean their blood hasn't been replaced with pure unfiltered soy over time. If you want good games you better start looking at making them yourself or supporting obscure indie developers. But you won't, you'll lap up the next shitty progressive banjo and feminist kazooie, you'll even buy it in early access no matter how obviously shit it is because you're a fucking retard who never learns and is incapable of letting go of the things that are dead, desperately storing the rotting corpse of your favorite dog in the fridge in hopes that it might become alive again.

The smash appearance does make the possibility of a return to form from 0% to maybe a 2%, but it can't be at the hands of current year Rare if it is to be any good. Not sure how it could realistically happen, but that's the only way it can work out.

It wouldn't even be all that bad if we had other 3D platformers similar to it. Mario Odyssey maybe the closest attempt, but it pains me with even how similar that game is, it's an absolute chore to play. Besides, nothing's truly dead until you give up, if they make another shitty game like they did with Nuts & Bolts I'll just keep clamoring for a proper title until they make one. The fact that only 1 game like Banjo-Kazooie exists is what's painful to me. Banjo-Tooie is also an excellent game, but there's definitely some differences.
>>16597159
There's the chance they make outsource the IP to Nintendo or devs like Retro Studios. Also all of the themes in Mario Odyssey are pretty lackluster, the game had me pretty disappointed overall, simply didn't have the same level of charm or cartoonish goofiness like Banjo-Kazooie did. The characters in Banjo-Kazooie is probably what I appreciated the most.

basically this. A random indie dev who makes a game using N64 graphics and actually understands what made BK good is far preferable to what the Jontron banning nigger jizz swallowing good goys at Playtonics could achieve. The fact that they kept the unskippable cut scene and drawn out story shit from Tooie just shows how deluded they are. Sure Nuts & Bolts was garbo but Threeie from those guys would have just been all the bad parts about Tooie on a larger scale. The first game was lightning in a bottle, the rest is nostalgia.

A Hat in Time. There's 3 semi-hidden instances of pozz (rainbow flag on a distant background boat, that book about capitalism in a corner of a bonus level, and a tranny flag painted into an alley in the most recent DLC), but the game itself is really good and doesn't have any other SJW shit in it.
Needless to say you shouldn't give any money to developers who put that shit into games, but I do think that if you like open ended 3D platformers then you shouldn't pass on this just because of the above mentioned.

Banjo-Kazooie has always been an interesting franchise because like most Rare games they don't pump out sequels for the sake of it, they actually wait until there's a new mechanic to try, just like Nintendo. Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie were absolute gems on the N64. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is really weird but I'd rather they use that IP for a custom car simulator than have zero B-K games since Banjo-Pilot and Grunty's Revenge. The idea of building custom vehicles and sharing with others is really neat and I congratulate them for trying something new. At least it was an actual game. Rareware used to make 1-2 games a year but now they can barely scrape up enough content for Sea of Thieves to keep the playerbase happy. Even Battletoads has been outsourced.
My Rankings by order of quality:
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
Banjo-Pilot

A smart direction for the BK series would be to model a new game on Breath of the Wild. Might not seem obvious at first, but that game is basically a collectathon already, just with the barriers between levels dissolved, and a larger sense of scale. Instead of Zelda stuff, you fill the world with wacky Banjo Kazooie stuff, so instead of a mountain zone, you have Cloud Cuckoo Land, or whatever. I think it could work.

You'll never get me to agree on Nuts & Bolts, even with the whole "Oh, but you to treat it like it's not a Banjo game" and I have. By itself, it's a painfully mediocre game. It could've been good, but it needed to be more fleshed out and have more personality. None of the challenges are that engaging and it's a pain to go out and find them, the art direction only makes it worse because I hate every second I have to look at the characters or scenery.
Not to mention with some of the challenges it feels like I'm being penalized for not having the right parts, I don't feel like I'm solving a puzzle or coming up with a solution with a creative vehicle design to properly tackle an obstacle. Half of the time it feels like I'm just throwing together a checklist. It's just frustrating, because I feel even with the vehicle concept, it could've been a great game and I want it to be, but it just isn't there. Keep in mind this is ignoring all of the Banjo-Kazooie related problems with the game.
>>16598177
No opposite, that's why Nuts & Bolts is so boring and empty, they wanted the levels to be too big. Rather what they should do is go back to tight enclosed level design like the first game and scatter a bunch of environmental puzzles or obstacles to solve. Each level should have a clear and concise theme, I don't care about the areas in-between the levels or openly traversing between them. They should come up with a bunch of challenges or things they want a player to accomplish, they design a framework to fit them in.
Open world is a bad meme.

Rare was only good when they were with Nintendo. Sorry, but a lot of the worst Nes games were made by Rare. The only way to get a good Banjo game is if Nintendo gets the rights to BK and Retro Studios develops it. Nintendo has a good history of taking in second party devs and guiding them into making great games. That's exactly what happened with Rare.

This is what I mean about the worst part being the Banjo parts. In good Banjo, you get a new move and then you use it but here you get a new part, which then you have to turn it in to Mumbo, which you then have to tediously add it to your vehicle, which you then have to go into a seperate menu to select, which even then you might not even get to use because fuck you this one challenge requires this one specific prebuilt vehicle. Banjo used collection to add a sense of progression while N&B uses progression to blatantly gate having any kind of fun and add an extra 3 or 4 steps to shit that should've been automatic.
c52af4 No.16598345

This may sound odd, but hear me out. Instead of progressing by collecting vehicle parts and whatnot, every challenge should've had a preset list of vehicle parts that is allowed or can used. Some of the parts of Nuts & Bolts I enjoyed came from challenges that had restrictions on them. Build a vehicle with no fuel, only use 2 wheels and make a bike. A lot of challenges I enjoyed came from the Jiggoseum, a very sports-like and rule based level. I think it would be a lot more fun when presented with a challenge you're given a box of parts and told "figure it out with only these" rather than being allowed to use every part you have. Also this ideally would do away with part collecting or should have none.

But that's the thing, most developers simply aren't as capable of filling a big empty space as they would be compacting a lot more interesting features closer to each other. It's too big of an undertaking when it could be done without having to expend as many effort or resources.

A stale bugman reboot to sell people's childhood back to them? Sure. Something that feels innovative and classic at the same time? Probably not. Sadly mascot platformers have their heyday behind them. Rachet and Clank is the only major (non Mario/Sanic) mascot platformer franchise that really survived the aughts. I actually liked Nuts and Bolts. It was a great concept and was fun for what it was but they could have done so much more. Like why get rid of platforming? Have regular platforming and on foot challenges alongside the vehicle challenges. We have the technology and Rare certainly has the time and money. Platforming segments in areas too small for regular vehicles, vehicle stuff around these areas.
Like for instance, you're knocking down Grunty's castle. You drive your tank up to the door but it's locked, so you go in through a Banjo sized hole and adventure on foot through the castle. Then you get to the armory and meet Kegsby the Powderkeg, do a thing for him and he explodes, making a hole in the wall for your tank to get through.
Like the other anon said, make it a Breath Of The Wild kind of thing. Except your horse is an F-22 Raptor.

I like the limited parts idea. One of the easiest ways to cheese Nuts N Bolts is just to attack your opponents in every challenge.
Racing? Blow them the fuck up.
Sumo wrestling? Blow them the fuck up.
Collecting things? Blow them the fuck up.
Once you get the homing missile, or the automatic vertical launch homing missiles, the game is basically "Press B to Win" on everything. Limiting it's availability in certain missions would definitely make it more challenging. (And then unlock free mode where you can do the challenge again with unlocked parts for leaderboard shit)

What the fuck is up with the design on that Retrobit controller?
The reason why the N64 controller is designed that way is because you will either play a game with either the d-pad and L button or the analog stick and Z trigger. There's no practical reason to have them both within reach of your thumb, otherwise, it makes the controller look ugly.
3e441c No.16599703
Banjo-Kazooie was never good. The only reason that the first game is considered good is because it has enough setpieces to distract you from the actual gameplay. Pretty much any other single game would benefit from expanded mechanics, but as a consequence of Tooie doing it, it forces you to recognize that you are playing hide-and-seek without a second player. Developers had learned from Rare's mistake and that's why 3D platformers rarely have more than one secondary collective.

They see the insane eunuch faggot flag and either do not know what it is or do not care. Because a deranged tranny has yet to molest their children, they think it doesn't affect them. Of the rest, half support this trash. Some are deranged themselves, but most just want to virtue signal. The left is notorious for not actually caring about fixing problems and only wanting to act like they have the moral high ground. Of the tiny fraction who are aware, care about this shit, and aren't for it, half of those are too defeated and broken to speak out because of the associated social stigma. Don't want to be a bad goy and get banned from faceberg, do you?
So with all that in mind, what do companies see? Well, you have an issue that the majority of people will at the very least begrudgingly smile and nod about. Some people truly support it. Not all that many, but god damn they're loud. More will act like they support it to pretend to have the moral high ground and gladly attack and belittle anyone who opposes it including anyone who opposes a game or product referencing it. It's all PR. Put a faggot flag in and you get to pretend to be the goodest of goys and the idiots will eat it up and defend you from anyone who criticizes you for any reason.

Why wait for a victimized child? There's plenty of other ways their bullshit is affecting everyone.
- Can't get a job because employer has to bend over backward to fill quotas, so the trans' getting it, regardless of how (un)qualified they are compared to you.
- Can't say naughty words anymore, you could get your ass dragged in court because of a man in drag.
- Have to subject your kids to brainwashing "information" sessions because it's mandatory and the nanny state will take your kid away if you refuse your kid to be indoctrinated.
- The delusion that is being spread by the media is destroying the reality, a.k.a. the little common-ground people still had ("not all cats meow, you can be a cat in a dog body, my cat enjoys chasing the postman so it must be a dog – and five years down the road: not all dogs have fur, because you're covered in leaves doesn't mean it's not a dog, my dog had an early blooming and soon its fruits will be rip to eat).
- You're paying to trans-everything, from drugs to surgery and general public services (social workers etc) with your taxes.
And the list goes on… polite sage for off-topic.

>the size of all things wasn't an issue. Keep in mind the left third of the original controller doesn't matter 95% of the time. Apparently it's also slightly bigger than the Hori controller too
>the D-pad is even worse than it looks. Do not play a game with it
>your right thumb has to go further out to reach the A and B buttons compared to the left and as with the original controller
>my middle fingers press against the protrusions on the back and I don't like it
>the stick is tight and feels good to use, though I've only been playing Banjo-Kazooie and for the first time at that
>oddly the stick doesn't lock in place on the right side of the octagonal gate like it does the left. This is probably why the top-right of the deadzone test looks so fucked up
>the only thing that bothers me as I'm actively playing is the shoulder buttons. They're under the middle of your index fingers and don't protrude very far along with feeling glossy. Also they're not engraved for some reason
It's all right overall. I'd rather use it over the original because the stick feels better but that's about it. If they just sold the stick on its own as an acceptable replacement for the original's unlike the other completely fucked replacement sticks I'd probably be happier with it.
