Quests are varied and interesting, difficult to solve if you don't resort to guides. Travel is an actual thing and leveling up/doing quests allows you much more ways to travel around the world and make yourself more efficient.

Open PVP in the wilderness or you can gamble on your abilities in the arena.

They focus too much on endgame raids now because muh themepark audience, everything related to combat was sterilized (rather than complex stats everything is now strictly assigned into the combat triangle), normal attacks were replaced with special attacks, XP gains and leveling trivialized across the board, visual design butchered and every design of everything looks terrible and out of place, the new engine while cool is incompatible with the design of the world (everything now looks tiny and too close together because you can see so far) which is made worse by the new designs that bloat the size of everything and thus make them look even more tightly packed. That's as far as I can get from the top of my head.

Forgot that all the old quests were fucked up too because new Jagex thinks that instanced cutscenes > gameplay.

The thing is skinnerbox faggotry is literally an attempt to market any fun/leisure activity as being as damaging as gambling, it's not a worthy criticism of games, and hadn't been until WoW actively started blackballing players they knew would buy boosts to cash more out of exp boosts. As two another anons the quests are quite nice.

One of the reasons why people still play any version is because the game is essentially endless because of grinding autism. There isn't a real ending, only several mental endgames, like "Complete every quest in the game", "be the top of the food chain in PVP" or get every skill to 99". The game is extremely open-ended so you basically just do what you want. It's not like WoW where you're expected to constantly fight enemies and that sort of thing; you really do get to do whatever you want, and some especially autistic players pride themselves on their pacificst characters, or you had people like >>16593616 who just wandered around, took in the atmosphere, and conversed. That was what I mainly did back when I played the real thing.

I would never actually pay for it though, especially considering the pozzed state of both official versions, so I just hop on /v/scape twice a month.

Most polled updates and pre-made, incremental QoL updates that they know will get through because "eh fuck it sure". Shit like "should monster X drop more of Y?". it's interesting because few isolated activities in the game are actually fun, most of it just feels like work. but somehow, the game as a whole is incredibly addicting and satisfying. it makes you feel like you're constantly improving and getting better, and everything you're doing is productive, no matter how menial it is

also it is social because it's an mmo, and I think it trains economic/problem solving skills. often times, you need to do things that feel wasteful, but actually aren't.. like say you spend 10k gp on a teleport so you don't have to walk- 10k feels like an awful lot to spend on a simple teleport, you might be hesitant to do so and instead be inclined to teleport somewhat further away and walk, but doing so would be inefficient because the time and effort saved by simply buying and consuming the teleport could be better spent elsewhere. you could make more than 10k with the units of time/effort/attention that it would take you to walk. this is a bit of a silly example but you should get what I mean

I hate that Fagex first raised the membership price of Funorb from $2 to $5 so you couldn't get RS and Funorb for $7.
