All I ever find of torrents is the HD version. I'll probably just buy a the disc off ebay, or something. I've also heard if you have the original disc of AoE2, and install it on a windows10 system instead of installing the game it links you to steam to buy the game there.

I have not played AoE2 in a long time, but I remember you could repeatedly click a single point on the map to get your soldiers to all scrunch together, but couldn't do it in the HD version. Everything's so over-the-top and off, like an amateur's over-polished turd. The excessive smoke trails behind too-slow siege projectiles, the delayed, physics-defying crumble of destroyed buildings, the slow, floaty unit animations, the almost painfully bright colors, the drawn-out, quiet combat sounds that all blur together into an unpleasant drone.

Everything about AoE2 was crisp, clear and cut-and-dry, nothing lingering longer than it needs to. I'd have no interest in playing this total aesthetic downgrade even if it was instantly installed for free.

It's just a graphical update. Who cares?

You're mistaking slow and floaty with smooth animations that have a lot of frames. The animations in the original had very few frames.

I just checked the Steam store. It's still a Windows 10 exclusive. Oh well. The macro improvements like displaying economy at all times and without having to sacrifice the minimap to show it, and mixed queueing of techs with units are not worth getting Windows 10.

If the DE fixes the poor netcode and makes it have 0 lag and precise response times, along with having the EXACT same gameplay as the orginal (no non-balanced related value changes, etc) it'll be the must have version of the game.

The problem right now is the community is divided. HD's netcode is poor, so people play via a 3rd party app.

There's already an HD version of aoe II all with 3 expansions and bugfixes and other shit. This is going to be the same game except more HDer? Ok. I fucking hate remasters that screw with the music. It rarely sounds better than the original, and this is a case where it sounds much worse. Also not sure how I feel about the sound effects being swapped for more realistic sounds, but I've been playing the game since release so that might just be a bit of bias.

I'd rather they release a DLC for the HD version, i'd really like it though, my biggest source of annoyance with the game is how the units are the same for everybody, i get it that they'd have the same kind of units but a swordsman from Europe should look different than a swordsman from Ethiopia which should look different than one from China. They did such an amazing work with the buildings too though i guess having to make all the new animations just wasn't worth it back in the day, but nowadays?

i think the problem with making independent units for every civilization is that is going to be hard to distinguish every single one of them, in AOE II you can easily recognize what units are what by just having a small glance if every civ had different units it would be hard to know if the other player is running champions or men-at-arms for example, altough i would love to see each civ get different architecture but that isn't going to happen.

Just want to remind folks that the netcode in HD is shit which makes multiplayer a pain in the ass and micro at a tournyfag level impossible, so everyone plays aoe2 on the 3rd party voobly platform.

It's not a VM, it's just a file that simulates another hard drive so you don't have to fuck with partitions to boot into Win10 for whatever games that won't work on anything else. You can even install said games in that file, move it off the SSD onto an external when you aren't using it, whatever you want. AFAIK VMs introduce latency, which is unacceptable.

It's still very early to judge but I think it's going to be good. What I really want them to do is give each civ group their own flavor units and villagers. North euros have light skinned and hair villagers, far eastern don't have knights, kangz don't have h'wite slave villagers plowing farms etc.
