With E3 around the corner, it's likely that Nintendo will finally showcase the Switch's Animal Crossing game in action. While I personally can't wait see the upcoming trailer, I also have a wishlist of new features that I wanna see in this latest installment.

Hear me out, but I want a journal or planner system to schedule events with other villagers. Say you want to go fishing with another villager, you would then talk to them about their availability and set time frame if they're not already free or if you wanted to include multiple villagers in the event. It would be something to make the game feel more lively or connected and include a plethora of events or mini-games to play with the villagers. Soccer, Hiking, Community Gardens, Board Games, Card Games, Fishing, Bug Catching, Food Festival, Video Games, Lounging Indoors, Campfires, Painting, etc. Different villagers might have different responses or actions in the events and would help grow your connection or friendship with them, some might be bad at sports, but good at fishing, etc. Some might produce items you wouldn't otherwise be able to get by encouraging them to use their talents and spending a lot of time with them.
You would be able to host house parties and gain popularity among the villagers. If your party isn't properly accommodating such as not having enough drinks or food a villager likes, they may become disappointed and more reluctant to join you in a future event. All of these inclusions would also apply towards local and online multiplayer as you would be able to play these mini-games with friends or join you in events.
More to do with the villagers or in-game at all would be appreciated, the series desperately needs more side content and more unique dialogue. I'd be interested to see what else you think of this idea or what more could be added.

My first entry was ACNL and while I enjoyed it, I was saddened to learn that it was cut content all over the place from previous games (eg Resetti and Blathers' dialog, among much more). The concept is fine. You should be able to do more than just have a daily generated quest and handful of items to scavenge. I would love to see it expanded to be more like Harvest Moon, perhaps.
Another complaint I have is the slow pacing of the menus. Every time you have to open the menu to do something it takes like 3 seconds, instead of being instant. No excuse. But let's be honest, it's fucking Nintendo. They've been lazy and almost predatory over the last few years. It'll be at most as good as ACNL was.

Obviously no one is going to like every single food item that's handed to them, it's supposed to incentivize getting to know the villagers better and feel as if you're truly befriending and learning about them as a person. And as far as I'm concerned, the GameCube title had a similar mechanic where villagers would judge the aesthetic of your house. What I want is more interactive mechanics and elements instead of "Please get me an X, Y, Z." Because as it stands, fails at feeling like a game and it fails at feeling like a village simulator.

What if a villager could move into your house? It would require a house with 2 or more rooms (excluding the main room) as well as a high friendship level with that animal. The room the animal moves into must be completely empty otherwise all of the items in the room will be thrown out. Benefits would include having that villager stay in town forever and pay rent at the end of every month (if you decide to charge them to live with you) not to mention that furries can roleplay that they're married/dating their roommate. The villager will be more likely to accept a higher rent depending on your friendship level as well as their personality and whether or not they're the opposite sex. Same sex animals (friends) will be more likely to accept where as opposite sex animals (love) will be less likely. Charging rent causes the villager to act less friendly towards the player since they'll see you as a landlord while letting them live with you for free will cause them to act friendlier. You can enter their room while they're sleeping and mess with their stuff, but waking them up (by running a lot, interacting with them while they're in their bed, or activating furniture that makes noise) will upset the villager. If minigames are a thing (darts with the dartboard, pool with the pool table, Puzzle League with the 3DS) then you can play those games with your roommate.

New Leaf was fun for the content, but the original still has the best atmosphere.
In the original, the personalities are more distinct, villager dialogue stands out more, each villager feels different from one another, and the music is more distinct between hours, seasons, events, and so on. In New Leaf, the music still changes, but I barely notice it. There's more personality types and villagers, but the dialogue is more tame. Snooty villagers aren't as stuck up, cranky villagers don't get as angry, and so on.
In the original, it felt like an achievement when the Snooty villagers started acting nicer to you and treating you less like garbage. In New Leaf, they're indifferent at worst.
There were a lot of other small details added to the first Animal Crossing that were overlooked when making the sequels. You don't notice them right away, but after a while of playing New Leaf I noticed something was off. The dialogue felt different and didn't seem as good as previous games, but it wasn't until going back to playing the original I noticed how gimped it was. (I looked to see if the full dialogue for Blathers is available anywhere, but I couldn't find enough to compare side-by-side. He used to say paragraphs per donated item, but now it's just a few sentences. I wouldn't mind the option to skip it, but it's weird a character named Blathers no longer blathers on about his passionate subjects. He also doesn't hate insects anywhere near how much he used to in the first couple games.)

Why can't we get sports to play with the villagers? Imagine if each villager had different stats (power, speed, stamina etc.) and special abilities (like a power shot or speed boost). You could play soccer, baseball, or some other sport (rugby would be great but it's the least likely sport) with a handpicked team of your favorite villagers, recruited FFX blitzball style. They could even do stuff that's in character, like lazy villagers having low stats/refusing to play or jocks having great stats.
I'm sure the devs had this idea at one point. I think the real reason Nintendo doesn't do this is that it would cut in to the Mario Sports niche.

Don't kid yourself, there was never any possibility of expansion on any of them. Isabelle is never gonna get expanded on, either. The most that has ever happened is that they get a new job, or a family member of theirs is introduced. Blathers is still the same as he was in the first game. Sable and Mabel are the same, and Sable's whole character arc gets reset every game so you can do it again with your new villager. K.K. Slider still does music and gives out bootlegs. Nook went from doing both shop keeping and real estate to real estate and exterior decoration. I could go on. Point is, no npc ever got expanded on before New Leaf, so Isabelle hasn't changed a damn thing.

New Leaf's got the most content and replayability but sadly the neighbours' interactions are from time to time a bit weak, while it's nothing tragic of course. You only start to notice if you play it religiously.
Wild World can be easily emulated these days and you get tons of stuff to do, while even being given numerous chances if you play daily to learn about the "past" of several important characters of the series.
The one on Gamecube is tons of fun, clearly is the old one as it's clumsy here and there (needing the fossils to be sent with a letter even just to expertise them before you can sell or donate them is dumb), but you'll quickly see the charm of it.
Let's go to the city was shit. It's basically wild world but on console, and with the fucking grass deterioration like you wouldn't believe. It's good if you're a huge AC fan, otherwise you'll get bored somewhat fast.

Check out some gameplay, or pirate one of the games. You really can't go wrong with any of them, any of them will give you a general gist of the series. You can easily emulate the N64/Gamecube, Wii and DS ones, and pirate the 3ds ones.
Most anons would probably recommend the N64/Gamecube (Animal Crossing), Wii (City Folk) or DS (Wild World) ones over the 3ds ones due to the writing being better in those, but the 3ds one added a lot of quality of life features that are nice to have. City Folk is probably the simplest one to just pick up and try out, as Wild World has touch screen gimmicks, 3ds lets you build stuff around town as mayor and the original Animal Crossing is very different in how the town is laid out, and plays differently as a result.

They'll probably bring back everything from HHD. They tend to keep the good shit from previous games in the series. One of the only exceptions was the constellations, and it's a huge shame because it was tons of fun; but it's because the DS had two screens so you could always see the sky. They could've brought it back for the 3DS but they chose to use the bottom screen for the map/menu, which makes sense I suppose.
Also in New leaf you already could play to the beat of a KK track. If one of his songs was playing, clicking on an instrument made it play in-tune with the song itself.
