As for a recommendation, Fire Emblem Echoes comes to mind. The story is extremely wholesome and the protagonist's romance plays a fairly central role.

Xenoblade 1 has generally stellar writing, runs great on the Dolphin, can have a (mostly) complete HD texture pack installed, and can run at 60fps. It's very worth a play. There are three love stories in the game and, though they aren't exactly the focus and one is rather bland, are told tastefully and believably.

Xenoblade 2 has shit writing, don't listen to that other guy. There are two "love" stories, one of which is a shota who likes Pyra's tits, and the good story which Xenoblade2 pulls a shounen on and undercuts, ruining it completely and cucking best girl.

Valkyria chronicles, the villain, selvaria, does a lot of bad things for love the saddest thing is that the man she loves only reciprocates because he knows she's essentially a living nuke, she proved to be so popular that an expy has appeared in every single VC game after that. But you can only redeem her in 4.

Valkyrie profile 1 and 2, lenneth falls in love with one of his soldiers, and thanks to time travel every single bad thing that happens in the game can be traced back to lezard, an immensely powerful mage that fell madly in love with lenneth, he even kidnapped elves and modified them in his laboratory until they looked exactly like her, presumably to rape when he's bored, the guy is more or less an ally in the first game but he's the main villain in the second.

Muramasa rebirth, the plot starts off after momohime gets in the way of jinkuro (a samurai whose body is decaying after a nekomata cursed him, this gets explained in one of the DLCs, vita exclusive sadly) when he was in the middle of a soul transfer ritual, so he ends up in her body instead of her husband's, yukinojo. Jinkuro ends up doing a lot of good things for her sake (even though he's a hardass) and eventually falls in love with her, if you aim for the good ending he ends up jacking the right body and marries momohime even though she doesn't know it's jinkuro in yukinojo's body.

I've noticed the lack of romance IRL too, but something I've discovered is that, the less into Facebook/Instagram or MSM a girl is, the more romantic she is and the more romantic you can be with her.

It's harder to find people like this (and Okcupid/Tinder are simply a no-go) but they do exist and I've found them quite worth the trouble to find.

To keep it vidya, I've also remembered that, while not central to the plot, Grandia also had a romance that was rather wholesome and good (if mired by some overused but still funny anime tropes).

I actually can't think of any empire or people that didn't grant its women with significant political power before its collapse. The Romans, The Romans again, The Romans a third time (they called themselves Byzantines that time), even the Muslims fucked themselves over, at least three times that I can think of, by granting their women power which led to a collapse. Unless the empire was suddenly usurped by overwhelming military power, the Third Reich and the Japanese from World War 2 come to mind, empires that die of age usually invest power into their women for some reason. When a crisis over an Empire looms, it will affect every group/class/individual differently.

After a while, one of those groups will unite in a makeshift tribalism and attempt to claim resources/influence in order to regain the status they had before said crisis.

If they have a common well-defined characteristic, the schism happens alot faster and a lot more structured. Like being black (South Africa), women (Rome) or being a Jew (pre-WWI England).

The rest of the masses that fail to unite will be prey to the group and surrender their wealth and power to the higher force.

This is also when the common man rallies behind ANYTHING that will protect him, hence the rise of populism and fascism (with the fascio being the literall representation of many weak individuals coalescing into a stronger entity).

The problem isn't putting blacks/women/jews into positions of power. The problem is putting them in those positions BECAUSE they're black/women/jews. This starts a cronystic tendency where blacks/women/jews put even more of them into those positions because, well, they're black/women/jewish, they're clearly opressed and we oughta fight that!

No care is given to the person's competence or achievements. They're the right kind of opressed, and that means they earned that position. Theresa May and Merkel come to mind for instance. They're utterly incompetent and widely disregard basic political and negotiation principles. Yet they advanced on the premise that "we need a wamen up there!".

Why? Because the alternative is misoginy and we don't want that, do we? Fuck yeah, we got us a wamen!

Same goes for regular men being put into leader-type positions because of similar cronyism, but men are seen as corrupters and evil creatures by default by everyone, so there's a sort of empathy towards things like that.

I'd be okay with Barack Obama if he didn't try things that have been proven as catastrophic many times before (keynesian economics) showcasing his inexperience and borderline incompetence.

I'd be okay with Hillary winning over Bernie if she had better policies, but instead she had murder and mafia.

I'd be okay with Theresa May if she could negotiate a Brexit deal worth the paper it was written on, but instead she broke into tears trying to reconcile two irreconcilable sides.

These people were put there for many reasons and none of them were about their ability to perform the job well.

It's totally isolated from from awakening/fates in both gameplay, aesthetics and story. None of the obnoxious mechanics such as pairing and child units (fuck this shipperfag bait) from nu-emblem are present in Echoes.

It's not a perfect game, it's wildly imbalanced (summoning, for example) and many dislike the simple maps, but I liked how grounded and realistic they felt (for a FE game).

While I never played the NES version myself, I believe that very little was changed other than a couple additional units, as well as villagers being more distinctly characterised, and obviously the 3rd person dungeon exploration stuff.

It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing games I've played in years, and is one of the better looking games on 3ds graphics wise.

My problem is they do such a good job building-up the girls who don't win. Nia had a character, the bipolar redhead did not. Nia had actual growth as a character as did her relationship with Rex. Pyrah had tits; and not even the best tits in the game. Melia had an excellent character, Fiora was "Childhood Friend: The Archetype."

I'm not in to shipping faggotry, but each game had a moment that made my jaw-drop and pause to wonder as to why they would just sideline such an obviously superior character that has had more and better development.

Planescape: Torment. The Nameless One and Fall-from-Grace share a great romance. One is an amnesiac immortal, the other a pure hearted succubus. While far from being a major part of the story, the romance is still handled respectfully. Unlike say, a Bioware RPG.

The Tokimeki Memorial series is built entirely on love stories (with a fair amount of input from the player on how exactly the romance will go), and despite appearances, they're definitely games and not VNs. The player is tasked with finding a girlfriend during three years of wacky anime high school, and balancing your stats/time between being able to pass tests, do well at your club, and impress the girl of your dreams - without pissing off all the OTHER girls - is surprisingly challenging.

Sadly, they've never been translated into English - though there's fan translations for the "Girls' Side" spin-offs, in which you play as a schoolgirl trying to get a boyfriend instead.

None of the games are as good as Tokimeki Memorial 2 though.

The archetypal romances was something we talked about; I can't remember if he was the one who told that to me or if I caught it myself. Ingway was only good around Mercedes. I was a bit bitter about their ending, but Ingway brought it on himself. It would have been better that way, but the prophecy needed to be fulfilled, despite being entirely self fulfilling.

Haven't finished the game second game yet, just passed the moment where where elf guy joins you to stop the church from burning the city, but to me the second game is more about being a mother, rather than a wife. The first game had the main characters forming three couples, with distinct personalities, and it was all about the power of love, and what it means to be an incel wizard who tries to steal chad's girlfriend. This game, however, focuses a lot on Lucia, interacting with babies and small children, singing them songs to put them asleep, taking care of them, and awakening those motherly instincts, and I feel no chemistry between the main characters is the gambler going to end up with the dancing ninja gypsy, or the money grabbing jewish wizard? I don't know, but not because, they have a complicated relationship, but because they have no real relationship, they just banter and make jokes, which is fine for friends, but not for lovers. In the first game, it was clear that the tsundere priestess was in a relationship with the hot-headed bandit, or that the star wizard was going to end up in a relationship with the head wizard.

Now I am not trying to bash the game, the combat is still good, and the story is nice, but I would say that the first game is about marrying your waifu, whereas the second game is about raising children with your waifu.
