I tried playing one of the PS2 japanese wizardrys and didn't like it very much. I think it was forsaken land? My biggest problem was that the incredibly slow battles with the long intros and actively roaming enemies (not just roaming in response to your movement) that respawned constantly made the game get tedious pretty fast..

Maybe I'm just a casual though, any thoughts?

Not exactly accurate, his effect was much more complex than that. It could only permakill your party members if one of them was already dead. Otherwise, it would place a debuff on one of your party members at random which caused death conditions to render them closer to permadeath. You could also dodge the wraith if you are familiar with the dungeon layout; the game was designed with that in mind.

This game is the pinnacle of the dev's "lets make everything harder every sequel" philosophy because the difficulty of their games was actually a selling point to them. Until this game that is, to their surprise most people never made it out of the first room and simply gave up. When the very first room is cutoff so that only an experienced player can even begin to think of an experiment to have a chance to escape from it, and they still fail to do so, you just know this is gonna be bullshit.

Playing it for a bit the only skills the harpy got as a mage was a weak heal (~1/4 hp) with minor buffs to agility and other stats that seems to do nothing. A bit later it got a skill that gave a very weak buff to attack, magician seems pretty underwhelming, even MC still only gets bomb and a weak party regen that only lasts 3 turns by level 15 or something. Despite having a 65 magic modifier staff bomb still does uninspiring damage and the boss from the second dungeon is actually a real enemy with strategies and not just a damage sponge so I'm seriously considering restarting. There' a good chance I'm just playing this wrong but it's a seriously fucking grindy game for a loli grind fucking game. As an aside I tried to capture a second puchimon for a species I already had to try it in a different class and the game absolutely shat itself when I went to edit party, not sure if it's the translation patch's fault or not but I was glad I had a second save.

Like the founders of CDPR started out by selling pirated games but now they want you to give them money for a download and hate piracy, they even sent out legal warnings to Krauts that pirated Witcher 2 to pay 1000 Euro or get taken to court. They say they "beat piracy" when they became legit by offering nice and proper physical releases, but Witcher 2 did not have a proper physical release, it originally had Securom on it, despite them supposedly being against DRM, to push digital and did not get a proper release until the Enhanced Edition.

The launch day physical release of Witcher 3 had DRM in the form of a download to make it playable

Witcher 3 didn't get a proper release until the physical Complete Edition. Cyberpunk will not have a proper release until it gets a physical Complete Edition too but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't because of all the digital cucks these days. Source on that one? The official narrative is that the people used to buy pirated games because piracy was pretty much the only way to get those games during the Cold War. CD Projekt started by getting the legit rights for distribution and giving the games a proper Polish localization and full boxes and manuals, unlike some bootleg burned CD with printed-out jewel case inlay you got from the local street dealer.

The only difference is sometimes there's chasms and sometimes those chasms have water. That's it. Might and Magic was doing laps around Wizardry at around that point for whatever reason. When they sent those legal notices the reason they gave not to pirate was the typical "Support the developer!!!" bullshit brainwashing line, they didn't suggest buying a physical copy so you can get something in return for your money and not support being charged for a download because as I said the original had Securom

The way they justify themselves actually profiting from piracy unlike those krauts they tried to take to court is that piracy wasn't illegal, but the reason they give to not pirate now has nothing to do with legality, it has to do with "supporting the developer", but they sure weren't supporting the developer by selling pirated games.
