Going to paracord mod my Asus Sica, also want to bolt mod my IBM Model M.

I got a few retro keyboards with weak keys, at least one with broken keys. The previous owner of it probably had buttons reattached with super glue because the button cap came out with parts of the switch in it. Bravo…
Also need to repair and build up 2 bicycles. The repair is mostly just painting now.

I know this is kind of a super buyfaggy thing to do but I'm also subscribed to one of those lootbox things, specifically for retro games. It's called Retro Game Treasure and they send you stuff in a cardboard box that's stylized to look like a chest from LTTP. Unfortunately the monthly shipments tend to be pretty hit or miss and sometimes they send you pretty mediocre shit. I don't know if it's possible to receive any sort of rare or valuable games from them, from what I've seen no one's gotten any. But it's still a way to build your collection if you're lazy.

Found PMD: Explorers of Sky for $20 complete; came back from vacation a week and a half later and found the same place asking $45 for it cart only now (which incidentally still sold a few days later, from what I can tell), so I'd say I got it at the right time. Got a complete copy of Haunting Ground for $23. Annoyed with myself that I forgot I had a 20% off coupon at that store I could have used on it. Also picked up a copy of Avalon Code for a friend while out of state; cart only unfortunately, but they access to a good printer and thus can make their own cover from a scan, and being that the store that had it was only asking $10, I wasn't going to pass up a game I thought they'd like at that sort of price when it averages $35-40+ cart only elsewhere. Pretty much the only time I've found anything decent in western Oregon (which in my limited experiences in visiting, would be hell for anyone interested in games older than seventh or eighth gen; selection and especially prices both being shit).
> CONSIDERING?
Not much at the moment for myself. Did see a game a friend of mine's expressed interest in recently (No More Heroes 2), but he's generally pretty indecisive about actually getting around to doing anything in a timely manner, even if it makes him want to kick himself later.
> MODDING?
Been meaning to get around to doing so for my 3DS.
> REPAIRING?
Spare PS2 a family member gave me, down the line anyhow. Something about it broke when they brought it down last time they came to visit (they swore it was playing fine up at their place prior), and it seems to have something to do with either the laser or the disc drive motor, since it can do everything it should except read discs. I'm not especially experienced in trying to fix such things though, and the one store around that I know to actually fix systems, their repair guy's gotten so backlogged that he's no longer taking new requests until he's worked through it all. For all I know it's just a minor problem in the system, but still. If there's a lesson to be learned, don't transport game systems in car-top storage.

Hope you didn't have to spend that much on those. Where I live I can still find occasional stupid low prices for PS1, PS2, and DS games from time to time, but anything older, especially for cartridge based systems, is all too often scalped to hell and back.

Quite frankly I wouldn't, for similar reasons I wouldn't play the lottery or do casinos. They probably make far more off the subscriptions than they ever put into paying out with anything good more than very rarely (simply for proof that "you can get something like this too!"). And who fucking knows what condition it's apt to be in, beyond at least "playable" I guess (unless they have clearly stated parameters for what you'll be shipping, condition-wise; disc/cart only would likely be either far cheaper to ship, or easier to pad out the box with so quanity outweighs quality).

>It's my childhood SNES and Genesis, I put those stickers on myself when I was like 9. I'd agree if it was anyone else's.
Fair enough, but if you ever sell them, look into using some goo-gone or something on the sticker residue (assuming it's safe for that kind of plastic; works fine on game cases) instead of leaving a mess for someone else to deal with. Speaking of, wish I knew a good way to remove adhesive from above a cartridge label without damaging it. That store with Avalon Code had a tiny sticker on the label which did come off, but the adhesive bonding was the sort to give Fucking Gamestop a run for their money.
>You're not wrong, but I was able to make a wishlist and they've occasionally sent me stuff I've been looking for.
Just what sort of range of price would you say what parts of the wishlist they've fulfilled have fallen under? I mean, if they've just been, I don't know, $15 or less, it's probably easier for them to justify giving you, as opposed to something more expensive to be left up to chance as a big prize or whatever.

I don't remember exactly which box had it but they've sent me a few greater-value-than-$20 games more than once which made up for the monthly price (about $35 USD) and they also sometimes send CIB games (usually PlayStation but sometimes Genesis). So it's not always a terrible deal.

Where I live, there's rarely any games at yard sales, and a good 95% of the time there are, they're not worth a damn, 4% are average priced ("we already tried ebay and got no takers, but let's see if making the net cast smaller gets us a taker"), and the remaining 1% are actually decent. Which isn't to say I haven't found stuff of interest on rare occasion, but I have much, much better luck with multimedia shops.
>>16514050
Interesting, but I'd still have to question if most of what they send still isn't of interest. Or do they at least ask your preferences for stuff beforehand so they can at least try to get stuff to people that might actually play it (and so you don't get ten copies of yearly madden)?

I'd be curious to know if that's any good. I don't recall having heard much about it at all, but then again when it was current I didn't have a 3DS anyhow. I don't think it fared well with reviewers ("professional" ones anyhow), but then again, what does the average person know? I don't even put much faith in genre-focused review sites anymore.
>>16514140
Well, considering how much some individual SNES games go for these days, I've heard it's still worthwhile. That's assuming prices haven't shot up higher than they were though, and obviously emulation is less expensive, if more finicky as to whether you want proper speed or accuracy.
>>16514231
What is that, a custom emubox? Doesn't look all that bad for might otherwise be vidya gore (though you said it was dead already), but I'd still worry a bit about getting dust in there, since it doesn't look like the bottom seals up around the input/outputs. That's actually really damn good, considering what Symphony of the Night alone goes for these days (it baffles me that a game with a greatest hits print like it has shot up to $60 minimum where I am, but Xenogears is also doing the same thing for some fucking reason; glad I got both for $25 and $5 respectively some years prior). Yeah, they ask your preferences beforehand, they don't send you sports games unless you want sports games. Of course that doesn't always mean you'll get what you want but it's interesting to sub to them since they give you new games to try out and if you don't like them you get to trade them in at a retro game shop or sell them. https://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-tx-r2779h-slimfit-27-crt-tv/
Because I thought it was funny as fuck that it had an HDMI, also because I figured I could use a cheap flat CRT. I've read that some more modern CRTs that do HD actually perform some sort of post processing or some shit to the signal before it gets displayed on the screen. If this is true, how can I tell if this tube does that?
8a4a35 No.16538888
>>16538809
The digital signal has to be converted to analog before being displayed, and some HD CRTs will take an analog input, convert it to digital then back to analog. This will cause input lag, but it's still probably better then a lot of LCDs.
It'll make a nice monitor, and it'll be great for a modded 360.

You'll have to compare it with a regular CRT to make sure it doesn't convert it. Duplicate your signal, set both TV's next to each other and film it with a phone or camera that can handle at least 60 Hz. Press some buttons and play the video back on a PC with frame advance. This way you can check if any and how much lag there is. There probably is an easier or less convoluted way, but this would be my first approach.

Not bad to get started. Getting the core Sonics (Spinball is pretty crap) plus EWJ is a good starting point.
You might like Ecco (critical darling). Ren and Stimpy is charming but is lacking without a second player to mess around with and figure out all the combos - so you're not missing much. Can't comment on Pacman 2. Altered Beast and Bubble Squeek are shit, maybe flip them (plus Spinball) to get some cash back.
Having said all that, you might get more out of getting the Genesis mini now that all the games are announced, you miss out on S3&K but cover all the other good games. If you could get the 4 Sonics and EWJ on their own, you'd be fine leaving the rest.
Also, since Sonic 3 is battery-backup for saves and now 25 years old, consider you might need to open it up and solder in a new battery.

Technically, my 486. Image related. The hard drive was dying, and had about 20% failed sectors.

Dragging my feet on replacing the battery in my Legend of Zelda cart. Forgot how little clearance there was on top of the board, and installing a flush-mount CR2032 socket wasn't going to work. I have alternate sockets that I can install and attach via wires, instead of mounting on the board, but that's what I was already trying to replace. Oh well.

Could be worse. You could be into vidya whilst living in Australia. Not that it excuses those sort of prices asked in your pictures.

Close enough to what it goes for where I am ($18 complete). Gamecube version is better, but PS2 had Dante. Not personally sure if VJ2 PS2 had any particular perk over the Gamecube one. Still, you could always emulate them a bit as a demo of sorts and see if you feel they're worth actually making the expenditure on.

I thought it would nice to put together a 486 on my own so I can finally have a computer to play old DOS games I saved from childhood. Hopefully I won't need a fucking bootdisk.

An Astro City arcade cabinet. I've been restoring it to it's former glory. For years it was treated as a multicab shitbox in Japan and Hong Kong. I removed all the garbage hardware, installed Sanwa everything, rewired everything, recapped the chassis, and and just have to get new locks for the control panel to stop people from fucking around inside.
> REPAIRING?
I rebuild an entire power supply for a QBert arcade cabinet. It needs 30v for the knocker to work, otherwise it isn't a fully Qbert cab.

This is sort of a reverse-buyfag. I want to sell my Saturn and its two controllers. While I imagine ebay is the best place to handle this, is there any way I could sell it to one of you niggers who're interested. It's from Japan and has a working memory cartridge slot. I've lost interest in the Saturn because I've made an emulator work with my discs.
What I'll use the money for is likely buying some RPGs on the PS3 like the Tales of games. I missed out on the genre for that generation except on the DS.

I've liked the PS3 Tales (admittedly I haven't played Zestiria yet though), but they seem rather hit or miss with fans, at least those on imageboards over the years (and admittedly loss of a true overworld and prevalence of DLC hamper them some compared to sixth gen and earlier), so maybe do some research on which are actually of interest. And I've had a tendency to play the series on co-op, so that could also be a factor towards still enjoying them. Good news is that they tend to be pretty cheap these days, at least where I live; think Graces f has been the more expensive of them. And if you have a CFWed PS3, you can play Vesperia with the English patch (package manager can also allow for use of pirated DLC, but I'm not personally sure if it only works with pirated games, or can be used with physical ones). Though, given the statement about the Saturn, maybe English is a non-issue for you to begin with.

Sure, but PAD is the same guy who gave us all that stupid Spider-totem shit. He also turned two X-Factor characters gay for SJW points and got a GLAAD award for it, over the objections of one of the creators of said characters.

I can find them for cheap and they seem to be generally reccomended, so I'll likely pick them up. As for my Saturn, it ended up me cargo-culting the retro gaming thing, when I've never had any real connection or history with the Saturn.

Yeah that's all good. I also have a black amerifat saturn that has a non-working cart slot(which means no imports or pirated games), that I would be willing to sell for like 20,25. But like, a Saturn is useless if it can't ply CD-R or Japanese games.

Well, if you're new to the series, consider Eternia, Symphonia, or Vesperia as starting points. From my own experiences I don't really consider much of the seventh gen original titles (Vesperia aside) as being as good of entry points.

Actually saw a copy of that at a store around here a few days back. They have it for $12 but I can probably get it for $6 if I'm so inclined. I know it's readily playable without needing to know moon, but how much is one actually missing out on by not knowing what's being said? Is there a translation script or something?

I didn't use any sort of guide and I just figured out everything mostly because a lot of the text is accompanied by a picture. And the story is very basic shonenshit in the Lost Planet mythos so you're mostly there for the tiddies and shootan anyhow

Is it worth holding onto this thing? I was getting a bit of attitude from the repair man about how old it was, so he probably just didn't want to fuck with it. Anyway I can fix something like this or should I just trash it?

Decided to try my luck with an estate sale earlier that listed that they had tons of video games. Of course they were all bought within like a minute of them being open, and I just know it was a reselling vulture that bought them. Namely because that's what estate sales attract. I got there at ten after and they barely even had anything left at all anyhow. Wasn't a complete bust though. Found a complete copy of Final Fantasy Tactics at another sale on the way back for $1, so at least there's that.

Might consider looking into it. Shame Capcom thought we'd only want Lost Planet 3 over it, from what I know of the series.

I already have 2 replacements which are both higher quality. I'm just hoping maybe I'll bump into another CRT autist who actually can fix these things. Even if the picture is higher quality it doesn't really look better. My broken one had the perfect balance between being low enough so the pixel shape was able to blend the jagged edges of polygons, and high enough where it didn't look blurry.
