Here is a fun bit of autistic trivia. Did you know grookey is based off Ozomatli, for you beans out there it's an aztec monkey that loves music, the arts and generally a fun time. It's the least worst starter in my opinion but the design still leaves a lot to be desired. Even now, gamefreak still uses a lot of pre-columbian inspiration in their designs

I'm expecting them to showcase new species of pokemon, at least. Especially the legendary pokemon in particular, who will most likely be Steel type Special sweepers. One of the 8th gen tidbits that came out in the past months was about a powerful new 8th gen Steel special move. Which I'm assuming will be the signature moves of the new legendaries.
I mean, Game Freak even held a contest where fans can name this particular Steel move. This promotion they did for it highly suggests that it'll be a legendary's signature move.

My own personal theory about why this happens is because everybody assumes somebody else already filed a report.
To all anons: it's okay if several reports are filed against the same post. The report system works in such a way that each post only shows up once in the report system will all the reports under it. There isn't that much of a difference if a post is reported once or five times, so don't be afraid.

I always love this kind of art. Pokemon is perfect for comfy scenes. The series lends itself to an idealized version of modernity that also cherishes old and traditional as well as natural. This sort of thing was always in the trading card art and anime but it hurts a bit that the games have not been able to portray this sort of thing in engine after the jump to 3D, with sprites at least their was enough left to the imagination that it all seemed like this to us.

It's more a vague collection of ideas that would be of more use to other people. I first wrote up a lot of interesting/useful concepts, maybe I'll post those at least because I feel like they're important to talk about in general. Then I went into detail about the ideas (basically just ideafagging, nothing I would call substantial). Two of them are impossible because I'm incompetent and not Japanese, one is unlikely because it would involve a Sonic Mania situation and no Pokemon fans are that competent, and the last one I was hesitant to talk about anyway because it's a complete fan project (so any less wrath from Nintendo or TPCi I accrue is a good thing), I can sort of accomplish it (I think I would need lots of help though), and I really don't want to spoil it that much because it ties into a lot of other projects I'm working on (including the aforementioned one). I guess what I'm saying is I'm more likely to get a new Rock Lord's cartoon greenlit (which is also something I want to do someday) than for any of the ideas to really matter. I guess what I'm saying is I'm only super autistic over one idea, and the rest are just something I wrote up because it's nice to get the ideas out of my head when they're not worth it. Plus it was kinda fun. I'll tell you what, I'll edit it down to remove the stuff I find important to me, and we'll see where we go from there.
Also, you might as well start an entire new franchise if you're putting that much effort into it. Pokemon started because Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori thought it would be cool to make a video game about catching monsters, you can probably do the same thing. You've probably seen it but Helix Chamber did an okay analysis of the development of the first Pokemon games mostly using interviews and the internal list. The fact that it's one of two types that hard-counters Fairy, which is an OP type, means that the nerf to dark/ghost resistance balances out, and it became a bit more offensive at the loss of defense. It helps that the only other hard counter is poison, which is still a pretty shit type, even with all the buffs it's gotten the past few gens.

Not with how fucking common ghost and dark moves are. 99% of all teams have some asshole who isn't even a ghost type but has shadow ball and tons of special attack. As it stands, unless you have a normal type and/or a dark type on your team, you will have nothing to resist ghost. Steel types are also mid to shit speed class, meaning you need something like bullet punch for priority if you want to take on fairy types because lol most will have shadow ball, meaning steel types are fucking useless unless you have Bullet Punch, the pokemon.
That's not even talking about how there are so fucking many dead common dark attacks; steel was made as a sort of replacement to Rock, which was a hard stop early in the games when all you have are normal tier moves, usually physical. Steel replaced that since dark and ghost were resisted, but now, it's useless for anything other than having STAB with bullet punch.
Ghost is the best type as it stands. Only dark and other ghost types can score super effective and most ghosts are rather fast and have high special attack, meaning nuclear grade shadow ball on first turn. And they pull out a normal? You still have 3 other moves to specifically nuke them.

Not specifically. I've made this rant before, but steel types have so-so hp, so-so special defense. People forget that steel is vulnerable as fuck to electricity and water, both types having resistance to steel attacks. Hell, a slowbro is a hard counter to metagross.

But I believe the bigger question is "what the fuck are you doing using a ground move with typhlosion?" If your answer isn't "to murder no fun Heatrans after I pop their balloon/shuca berry" you might be doing it wrong.

Make it take longer to train a shit-tier Pokemon to be as strong as a Slaking or Tyranitar. I still think BW handled it fairly well. Gen 1 had the problem of the entire middle of the game being the ame Pokemon over and over again, all of similar levels. BW gave you surf, which unlocked like two optional routes and the three legendary Pokemon. I'd still prefer more optional stuff through the game, but I also like them dumping a ton of stuff on me all at once too so it's hard to say. I will say Gen 1 did a similar thing hiding two of the birds behind surf, but Gen 1 lacked so much appreciable optional content that skipping out two or three routes entirely can be considered optional content in those games.

Kanto in gen1/3 were pretty nice in that you didn't have a strict order on gyms. You just had to beat 1 -> 2 -> … -> 8. (You could even do full reverse order in gen1 if you want with crazy glitch exploits.) Most people fought Blaine 7th because you have to surf to Cinnabar, but if you beat Koga as the 3rd gym to get Surf, you could fight Blaine 4th. This isn't really practical most of the time, but it lets you change up the game if you like.

Gen 1's deal was that there were only a few HMs, and even less were required. As HMs became more numerous and ingrained into the games (fuck defog) they sort of went overboard. Gen 5 made most of them optional, but also just added more arbitrary roadblocks (embed related) which annoying in a different way. Now that HMs are replaced with the Ride system, making it yet another arbitrary roadblock I feel like they've fucked that up. I did manage to come up with a sort of solution to it, however. It seems like the issue isn't with HMs then, or at least not entirely. The issue is just roadblocks because the developers don't want you getting too far ahead. I wonder why they just don't do a simple, less obvious road-block like making the trainers and wild encounters higher level than you want to deal with. Even as a kid I knew when I saw tougher enemies that I would need to train more to fight them. In turn, they could make the gyms harder by either giving them more Pokemon, or increasing the levels/EXP given so you're better equipped for the next route.
I like the concept of HMs for at least allowing us some interaction with the world using our Pokemon, even if most of them are just for moving obstacles rather than actually beneficial for travel/navigation. At face value the ride system seems better, but I never played SM so I can't comment on it.

>The "Ride Box"
The basic gist of the mechanic is a replacement for HM's that has all the benefits the concept had, few of the drawbacks, while also expanding on the mechanics of the game and improving the worldbuilding. Firstly, HM's and Ride Pokemon (and whatever Let's Go did) each have their own benefits and problems. One of the early ideas in the Capsule Monster days was that Pokemon were more crucial to every day life, and not every Pokemon was meant for battle. Some would be used for transport or as pets. And while the concept never quite went away, it's never been at the forefront, possibly due to technical limitations or general incompetence. HM's are a good idea in the fact that they bring this out more, making you use your Pokemon to help you in non-combat roles. Unfortunately, you either give your combat Pokemon a shitty move, or intentionally take up a team slot slot (or more) for a dedicated HM user. Ride Pokemon fix that, but they aren't really your Pokemon which changes the feeling of it. The "Ride Box" would take care of this by calling on your Pokemon directly from the box instead of keeping them on your team. Just slot a qualifying Pokemon into the specific role and you can summon them as needed. The only negative is that you'll still need to catch a Pokemon capable of doing a specific action, but with so many Pokemon you might have one already, and if not they can't be that hard to catch. But I wanted to expand on this further to make the world feel more alive, which brings me to the next point.
>An expanded sidequest system
One of the best parts of USUM was the addition of many additional minor sidequests. Some try to tell an interesting story, some are mostly there to just give you items (which is preferable to you getting them during the story), and there's a few that just show off a Pokemon doing what the lore says they do. Another great part of a Pokemon game is when you get Surf in BW. Pretty much every side area in the game opens up at that point, probably the most optional areas unlocked at once during the main story of any Pokemon game. By combining these concepts with the above, we finally reach a point where the Pokemon world can seem more alive. I'll give an example. Say some old man needs the ground stamped down to build something on top of it. You were recently unlocked the ability to let Pokemon do that sort of thing in the box, and just put a Machop in there for just such an occasion. So you summon your Machop to help the old man out. He rewards you with a little something, but also starts a sidequest line that lasts several quests. At the end of the line of quests, he finally builds a shop, providing you with a place to buy some unusual items you can't find in most stores. In addition, this ranks you up, allowing you to use your Pokemon in a new way, which can be used for both exploring and for completion of more sidequests. This could be the basis of an entire game (and possibly could be, I'll get into that). It's also why I'm not sure if "Ride Box" is a fitting name but whatever.

I thought of a similar idea but with trainer tools. Trainer Tools are key items that let you perform context actions with aid of your Pokémon. Thogh I don't think GF will let kids carry around an axe to cut. However there can be other uses for HM-like techniques outside of roadblocks.
For example. You need to cross a river but the current is too strong to surf across properly. Therefore you then go to the tree at the top of the hill. First you cht it down with the help of Pokémon. Then you roll the log down the hill until it lands in the river where it gets stuck between some boulders. And now you have a bridge to cross and fish on. Also there's an idea I had for an HM called Vine Cross. It's a Grass move with base power of 60 but never misses. The Pokémon throws it's vines like a grappling hook and latched onto the opponent. Then pulls itself across the field at high speed to ram the opponent. On the field vine cross is a hookshot.

God Gen 6 was so trash, the only good things to come out of it were the way they handled online (which of course they dropped in Gen 7) and Super Secret Bases. Game Freak didn't (and probably still doesn't) have a good grasp on how to make a 3D game. Did you buy SM or USUM? Or play SM more than once before USUM? I'm not the least bit surprised. The pokemon community has gone to hell in a handbasket since BW2. It was shit before but its a completely different kind of abstract sort of horror we're dealing with now.
