How are they making money? If they consider this a niche market, selling product is the de-facto method of making cash, so by calling their biggest product and moneymaker "niche" means they're making a considerable amount of money in non-product markets.

So these are the industries that they're fully involved in and making more money in then the product selling market.

Console makers are seeing the writing on the wall. Time is running out for consoles, especially as games like PUBG and Fortnite blow up in popularity for PC. Then we have all those faggot streamers that are influential for PC too. Consoles need good exclusive games to justify buying them, PS4 has a small handful of games that would be deemed worthwhile, Xbone has none and the Switch has a few too. Failure to provide good games means people will stop using consoles. The next console might just be a Steambox type of deal, a PC you can customize and change parts with but you're still paying for the brand so its more expensive.

Try playing the average Android game with a controller. All the games are designed around touch screen input. It's worse to play those games with physical controls. If you make an Android device with physical controls and want to have games designed around that hardware, you are screwed. Who will design an Android game around physical buttons when 99.9999% of Android phones lack them and depend on touch input? The failure of "gaming" phones with physical input is all the proof you need to see that, like you said, mobile gaming isn't something people seek out. People needed mobile phones long before we had smart phones that could play games. Adding games to phones is just an afterthought. Consoles and PCs are the only devices that people will spend money on so they can play video games.
