we don't really need a new one, we need a way to separate the good and the bad that is more clear cut like in the older days
the internet has always been shit, but there also used to be this sort of understood notion that different communities occupy different turfs and have completely different sets of rules, modern internet is:
>monetization-driven
>low-effort browsing
>highly integrated
>highly cross-related
>with similar moderation
>with zero netiquette, or rather, identical etiquette and words
>faster than it had any right to be in themes not in service
and this is fucking everywhere, the same shitty experience you can get on reddit, cuckchan and dumblr is almost verbatim what you can get on social media, nu-forums and comment sections on any website of the new age. There's no division between what you act like on forums or anonymously, what you do on content-driven or interaction-driven platforms, it's the same shit regurgitated ad nauseam, takes twenty seconds for memes to get old and 90% of them are incredibly forced if not outright shilled by the people behind publicity stunts.
I really just wish for things to get separate again. So that the internet would get back to being this huge place full of amazement, where you would unironically get all giddy when you find out that you and someone else went to the same place all along, that wikidiving and getting to new websites was this huge adventure that left you with new knowledge and some funny injokes that you would tell to your close and/or internet buddies, that some new platform comes around and only word of mouth manages to get it off rather than being talked about it on twitter for a week before being engulfed in degenerates, trannies and communists. Fuck's sake. I'm becoming the boomer. I was the boomer all along, it was within me, wasn't it?
