If I remenber the last time I went looking for that, it's "clink, tink, etc". Sounds that end in "-ink". Or maybe "-ing". One of them means you're close, the other means you're at the right spot.

What doesn't help is that you have to rotate in the oposite direction afterwards and then you're spammed with twice the messages.

You'll know it's open when you hear a "twunk, crunk", something that ends in "-unk". Can't remenber what it was. Keep in mind that when it does, you'll actually see 3 sounds at the same time, two "-ink" and one "-unk". That's when you can open the damn thing.

The safe has a Mosin Nagant, which is a pretty great weapon. 80 damage for every shot if I recall correctly, maybe more, and it's placed there with a clip for it as well. It also has some russian garments if you want to RP as a filthy gommunist.

It's likely the main reason why it has it's own special locking mechanism and why you can't even bomb or laser the safe to open it (otherwise you'd see that weapon every round), the traitor objectives it may have came afterwards.

It's still fucking stupid since the chatlog is absolutely horrible to keep track of the sounds you're hearing. After a few lines, you can't tell anymore if the last action got 2 or 3 lines as a reply and which were it. I'm also convinced that the whole thing may be broken and not relate to how you'd expect safes to actually work since I've had to redial the whole thing multiple times to each side instead of just once to one side and then to another, regardless of where I started.

What's even dumber is that not even the Captain knows the combination and it can't be found anywhere on the station at all. What's the point of having a safe that nobody knows the combination to?

And the kicker? You can't even C4 the whole thing open as a traitor.

You can message Centcomm about the combination and, nine times out of ten, they'll either give you it, if you're the captain, or they may give you a task to complete before they give you it if you're just a normal Head of Staff. There's no traitor objectives inside either, the Secret Documents are in the black cabinets at the top side of the Vault, it's just there for aesthetics. Exploding it or Deleting it will just delete whatever is inside the Safe, rendering the proposition moot. It also cannot be moved or lasered open, it is practically invulnerable.

I remember a Haunted Jukebox in Maintenance that sucked your soul if you clicked on it, meaning you died and you couldn't even move your ghost from it. They have a "secret" goonchat ooc where you need to get veoted in (((SA))) to get added into it, which is bound by ckey. It's mainly used to metagame against non-goons.

They also made certain chemical reactions check for a whitelist of ckeys.

I'm pretty sure you also don't have access to all of the captain's or security tools unless you're in that whitelist.

Engineer and Shaft miner are some of my favoite jobs because later on you can fuck off of the station and space yourself and find the coolest shit out in space.

My favorite things to find are abandoned stations, pilot-able ships, and guns sometimes lying around.

Whats even cooler is that you can sometimes be able to repair the ships and the stations and make them usable again.

Spilling will use all the contents in the bottle and drop in on someone, which turns every single bottle into a sort of chemical grenade.

You're not going to get some of the more advanced or explosive reactions, but you can easily douse someone in a lot of really nasty shit (basically anything that works on contact) and do so at range with no disadvantage.

Beakers require that you be adjacent while grenades have their fuse. Bottles sound like dumping the contents of a beaker on someone from a distance, which some extra damage to boot.

It's kinda the same situation that welder bombs were. It seemed like an interesting idea but it was ridiculously abused to the point that it made no sense to make bombs or order C4, and using proximity sensors and corners (as well as high latency from some users) made one of the most simple explosive devices you could make into something far more deadly than it had any reason to be.

Won't the same thing happen to the bottles, enabling anyone to easily make something incredibly powerful with very little effort on their part?

Also, the welderbomb thing has an easy fix, if it's still a problem. Just tweak the explosion variables to remove the area where it does heavy damage and increase the fire size instead, making it a fire bomb instead. Useful against blobs and to control areas, still powerful but not as destructive or dangerous as actual bombs.

molotovs are comparable to adding drops of phlog and clf3 to a beaker, both in effect and effort required.

the melee smash is the only questionable one, 15 damage and an extra stun effect is a lot to tack onto a normal splash considering what you can do at round start in kitchen/bar.

So a while back step_x and step_y were introduced to allow pixel based movement. SS13 does not utilize this. Step_x and step_y are variables that each atom has. The way they work is that as soon as you set any object on the map to use one of these variables, the game interprets that you overrode all default movement code and wrote your own - but you didn't (The code that makes the animation from tile to tile).

To fix this problem you need to close dream maker (save the project first, obviously). Open your map (.dmm) file in a text editor, such as notepad or notepad++. Search (ctrl+f) through the file for step_x and step_y and remove any reference to it. Once no more step_x or step_y -es are found in the file, save it and open it in dream maker once again. Compile the code and movement should work fine once more. Go to the development IRC if you need more help.

On the few instances someone injured arrives, he'll be expected to know how to fix whatever sort of damage or problem that person has, what drug to use and how to diagnostic several indirect sources of damage like low blood.

On top of that, he will be berated by everyone, the patient included, for not using their preferred meta method of healing that is faster by 1.5 seconds. And when he actually tries it, he'll start killing with overdoses.

Cobble together Surgery, which requires being very familiar with the inventory system and the game to do faster than snail pace, Virology being adjacent as well as chemistry, Cryo being a basic competence test, and what you get is an incredibly stressful job in an incredibly stressful area.

And the best part? It's all perfectly calm at the start of the round but shit hits the fan so fast he won't even have time to process that information.

Here's an actual job to learn the game well enough: Cook.

You get to manipulate items around, get to terms with the game controls, interact with several different pieces of furniture, and see a lot of content, the more and better you play, the more content you get to see.

You also can interact a lot with the crew in a non-critical way so you're at no risk to be a burden (anyone can get food from the machines in case you can't even cook a burned mess) but you'll have plenty of people visiting or passing by that you can talk to. You can also talk with Hydroponics for some points and help.

And the best part is that nothing in this is required nor will it prompt chimp-outs from uppity assistants (that think they'd do a better job but didn't rolled for it) nor do you hamper the station at all by "failing" your job, but you're still useful and can get some compliments once you're barely competent and most of the time you'll be in an area that doesn't get too many break ins, keeping you far safer than Janitor, for instance.

Once you master Cook, you can either go Bartender if you want to polish your RP and get to know the crew, talking with other players or go Janitor if you want to be more useful and actually walk around the station.

After either of these, you're more than ready to pick any guide for a job and start doing it, asking for help from someone else if possible to learn even faster.

You play on the server, correct? Than you can most likely distinguish between what's an actual problem and what's fabricated outrage to pad these threads with needless drama, surely.

If you can make that distinction, then the first actual problem you have to solve is how the game and the server look to anyone lurking the thread and considering joining up. Arguing with shitposters doesn't help with this, it's just making the thread look like a worse Wurm or 4am thread. New players come when there's talk about cool shit and space adventures or when we are discussing the content in the game. Argue about that, not about random individuals.

Second point to be argued but not here is the shitters themselves. It's great that this isn't so much of a problem anymore, but eternal vigilance is required to keep it like so. And get the hostfag to understand this, in regards to lax moderation: ultimately, there is but a single principle behind rules. To foster the largest desired playerbase on the server. You do not make rules based on principle, but rather to keep out anyone that doesn't fit the playerbase that is wanted and you enforce said rules not because of principle either but because it's either them or the regular players you have.

There is nothing wrong with banning someone from a server if he does not fit the rest of the group. Allowing him to stay breaks group cohesion and can end up costing more players than just that one.

This is doubly true when they force your hand and refuse to assimilate and behave themselves, willingly pissing off the locals to the point that they create a "it's me or them" situation. In such cases, it's imperative that they be shown the door since nothing tells you they'll stop at that one.

Lax moderation is for those that don't need any moderation at all and only works when they are the only players onboard. All it takes is one sperg pushing the boundaries for fun to change that, so never let it get to that if you want lax moderation.

Just keep posting about cool shit in game, discuss matters of moderation and rules in OOC, keep making content if you can for the server and send pull requests and you'll see that you'll get your playerbase.

At the very least, don't feed the trolls.

For oxygen tanks you can steal plenty from the blue o2 lockers around a station and stick those blue emergency containers into a box for maximum storage space, stealing fireman o2 tanks is also a great option. After collecting at least 2 large tanks and multiple small ones I've never had to worry about running out of air. Also make sure to get a stack of objects to throw to get yourself around, or a KA since its has infinite ammo and decent damage in the void of space. Really depends what your starting job is on the station and what access you have. I suggest going engineer or shaft miner since you can get a free hardsuit to use from each one if you're quick enough. On a large and active station with security its a pretty bad idea to try and steal one.
