Probably because their powers/equipment are well suited for video games. They have both long range and close range combat options, are very acrobatic, have a variety of movement options etc. Their versatility also means they can have games involving the typical super hero tasks besides fighting villains, like saving people or searching for things. They also have a wide variety of believable threats which can be either enemy variety or stage hazards. And they don't have powers that would completely break most types of games like unlimited flight or powers that would be tricky to implement like hard light objects.

Almost every single time it's only the movies, if there is a movie there is guarantee to be a game to promote it. There are a lot of games which came up with super hero movies at the same time, they were forgotten like pretty much other games which were supposed to promote movies or hell, like almost every single AAA game because usually that's who make/publish those movie tie-in games. Another thing is established formulas which works, hence why Spider-Man and Batman games are always similar, especially Batman which barely evolved unlike Spider-Man which then took many steps back and tried to copy Arkham Batman too. Keep in mind that Spider-Man with Batman are also extremely popular outside of comics while comics barely have any fans these days. Even though modern movies about Spider-Man or Batman are mediocre or shit, normalfags still remember old stuff which was good or decent so they still love those most popular superheroes no matter what.

Then there is also copyright hell which is mainly related to X-Men and to some extend Fantastic Four if we speak of Marvel games in general and not games dedicated exclusively to FF. X-Men while being very popular weren't getting games since Disney bought Marvel because they did not want to promote Fox movies, this is why there were no X-Men in Marvel games too with some exceptions. Perhaps X-Men license was just extremely overpriced thanks to Disney having problems with Fox.

Still, the main problem is that only big companies can't afford expensive Marvel and DC licenses, so in the end people either have to eat AAA trash or mobile p2w shit which is a shame because AA super hero games have pretty good potential to be successful if done right and AAA companies are not capable to make good or at least decent games nowadays, although there were already some good ARPG Marvel and X-Men games which had high and mid budgets, but those games are old.

Flying in games is not fun. It seems like it should be but it's gimped into oblivion because it breaks the world. How do you balance ground combat if one guy can just fly into the sky and shoot lasers permanently? Full air combat is also rather lame because you're doing it on a 2D screen. Spider-man and Batman both lend themselves well gameplay wise. Web-slinging can be an incredibly fun gameplay mechanic when done right while batman lends himself well to games involving stealth and combat.

Another thing that can be a problem is flight. Flying is one of the most common superhero abilities but very few games actually give the player unrestricted flight. Often because game devs love using gravity as either an obstacle for the player, a means for which to prevent the player from going out of bounds, or even as something for the player to enjoy defying as opposed to outright ignoring.

Web of Shadows has combos straight out of the DMC3 school of thought with Spidey being close to the standard Rebellion mashing for Crazy Combo at certain times, aerial superiority with Red Hot Kicks and excellent 1-v-1 tactics and the Symbiote is basically the Whips from Bayo except with far greater power to the point where Symbiote is Easy Mode / Casual Mode. Has probably the best open world after Prototype 1 and Spidey 2. Everything else(story, voice acting, music) is shit.

Gameplay wise Arkham Origins is pretty much just reusing all the assets from City, just with a new map and story, so there isn't mach new beyond the Shock Gloves and 2 new enemy types. Still I personally enjoyed Origins the most out of all the Arkham Games. Bane was done really well, and the Dynamic of Joker and Batman meeting for the first time is more interesting to me then the "We've been though this song and dance a million times" Dynamic they usually have.

I also really enjoyed Roger Craig Smith and Troy Baker's portrayals of Batman and Joker.

Oh also Super Man is referenced a few times because DC can't realize Batman's the only DC superhero that people seem care about anymore outside of extreme fanboys and dads.

Honestly the best improvement is the combat. More enemy variety (brutes can now hold shields/knives/stun sticks, medics that can revive fallen comrades, ect). With the new dodge throw mechanic timing is more important than ever while button mashing ends up getting you killed. But they also added some shitty qte function that lets you insta-KO a group of people standing together to a max of 5 and is regenerated pretty easily. Also gadgets are even more OP at times, especially during stealth where you can take out a good 4 or 5 enemies 100% of the time with no risk. So you can basically make a good chunk of the game a cake walk if you know what you're doing. The Batmobile isn't that bad honestly. It's actually fun to drive but it's so fucking pointless and It's so prevalent in the game you can almost smell the late night coffee the devs had to go through in order to think of new ways to shoe horn its existence throughout the game.

There's more obviously but I'll leave it there. Describing this game is giving me a headache. Every time I think of something I like in it I remember something equally bad. And then I just remember the ending and my brain short circuits at how retarded that shit was.

The DLC's stories are meh, but the better part is that you can use the Characters in any of the 40 or so Combat and Predator challenges you want.

So if you take a particular liking to playing as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, Azrael, Harley, or Red Hood then there is still allot of content for them.

There's also a pretty easy to install free roam mod, Tho there isn't a whole lot to do besides run around and beat up goons.

The game, or 2099? I dunno about the former, I think it gets brought up in Spiderman game threads fairly often as a solid game. If the latter, probably because it came out during the 90's at the height of the craze to make everything darker and edgier. A lot of it is seen as corny now and Marvel generally pretends it doesn't exist. Spiderman is the only 2099 hero to actually have a little bit of presence outside of the initial run (he even had a cameo at the end of Into the Spider-verse), and most of the other series are pretty much forgotten.

It should go without saying, of course, that I would much prefer 2099 to any of the garbage that Marvel's been putting out over the last decade or so.

I don't know if I'd consider prototype to be a superhero game, but it's got a story of a guy who doesn't start off as a god. One Punch Man would make for a somewhat awful video game because Saitama has never been shown in the series ever being able to lose. Even the one time where he wasn't yet bald and supercharged, he very easily kills a crab-like villain by pulling his eyes (and brains) out. Saitama always had the potential to be what he became.

Prototype would make for an awful anime/movie, but makes for a great game. Conversely, OPM makes for a nice anime/movie, but would make for a terrible game. The only way a OPM game could work is if takes place in the OPM world but isn't actually about Saitama.

Prototype starts off fairly weak and he gains power over time as he eats people. That's why Prototype works as a game.

It could be like DMC, except the cutscenes are for comedy rather than coolness. Or better yet, the entire boss fight could be about you charging up a meter that summons Saitama to punch boss, insta killing it and grading the player on the time, style, damage taken and combos he did on the boss.

Ultimate Destruction is pretty much the perfect Hulk game. It just needed a bit more polish, less "Defend X Building" missions and a Spider Man PS1 type of cosmetic unlocks that also have their own unique attributes. Also like Prototype the late-game enemies tend to knock you down more often than actually pose a threat, and it's quite annoying. Bouncing around on the streets body slamming those small robots was amazingly satisfying though.

I haven't played PS1 Spider-Man but I know the PS4 one has a similar system and if that was translated over I think it'd be great. Though there's not many costumes to go with. You could have Abomination and Red Hulk costumes as story complete or 100% completion bonuses, though aside from that all I can personally think of is Joe Fixit Hulk, professor Hulk and pretty sure that new Asian Hulk guy in New Avengers has a different outfit. Other than that it'd just be different colour shorts basically, also just thought that maybe instead of Red Hulk as 100% bonus it should probably be savage banner just because of cool that was back in UD.
