There's no reason to have a singleplayer game have shit gameplay, and stories that incorporate the gameplay as more than a means to an end can and have been done. Games like Nier AuTomato prove that games with good gameplay can be as long and story-heavy as ye-olde bullshit books with menus. Turn based jrpg bullshit is a waste of the medium. Gameplay was shit and I was severely disappointed in both P* and Taro. The enemies are shit and the leveling system destroys any possibility of balanced combat just because Taro want it to still technically be an "RPG". The bullet "hell" segments were below entry tier except for the very last one, and only if you don't use the cheat the developers give you that you're supposed to use for it to have the proper emotional impact. Only thing about the gameplay that was good was the player moveset. The chip system was a good idea, but under-utilized. I still really liked the game though.

Leveling systems are fine, but they're assbackwards. They need to start you off at a higher level, to reflect the easier difficulties of earlier areas where the player is just coming to grips with the mechanics. Then, gradually power down the player while introducing new and increasingly complex mechanics to compensate for the lower ATP/DEF. Then introduce some sort of level threshold for an area that the player is automatically set to upon entering - to get away from people intentionally avoiding leveling to cheese their way through. Maybe also have bosses that are impossible to beat without some new skill to weaken them, or dodge their attacks, which are unlocked at certain levels (and introduced by the area enemies, so the player has plenty of time to practice). Grinding should still have secondary rewards, but it shouldn't be a focus of the game - and the primary reason for engaging with enemies being to become fully accustomed to newly introduced movesets/abilities.

Plus, you could probably come up with a pretty good head-fuck story with the framework of becoming weaker as you grow closer to the source.

I've used different chargers and it worked fine. The dock doesn't work without the original but all it does is give an error. I've tried two other USB-C cables, one was a Nintendo cable and one wasn't, and neither did anything, other than just charge it slower.

With the Wii U, the marketing did very little to say what the product was all about and the name didn't help it that much. Was the console the handheld? Where was the main box in the marketing? Can I use the gamepad on my Wii?

With the Switch, it's very clear that the tablet and the dock are a part of the same console, especially with the dock being the same size as the screen and the words Nintendo Switch written in big letters across the front.

It depends on the title. People bought PlayStation with the expectation that it'll be the machine for ported VNs, Persona, Super Robot Wars, Atelier, and other weebshit titles. Titles like Dragon Quest Builders 2 sell better on Switch.

They pulled this shit after people who wanted their games have gotten their machines. People in Japan won't instantly switch en masse to the Switch just because of the SNOY debacle. Disposing of electronics (or anything you can't throw into the garbage bin) is expensive in Japan, you can't just dump it into the garbage pickup area. Living space is also expensive. The PS4 has almost no resale value to retailers. So once you've bought a PS4, unless you're rich by Japanese standards, you're pretty much stuck with it. Then there's also the price factor: physical copies of Switch third party multiplat games are usually 1000 yen more expensive than their PS4 counterpart.

The real test will be when the PS5 launches.

It does depend on the title, but the niche games that are fanservice heavy sell better on the PS4, and the margin of success for each category is generally different, switch games when beating PS4 titles will just barely inch them out, ones that sell better on PS4 will sell significantly better, often around 2x the amount.

Yeah, definitely, but PS5 is still the favourable platform overwhelmingly, as I posted above the PS4 will get all the major non Nintendo Japanese hardware sellers, and Switch will get almost none of them, so it's success is an inevitability, and the support of japanese developers is too.

I just slap together a mixed set that gives damage up and look up what quests progress the story, and it's not THAT grindy if you play it like that. Low drop rates just give me a reason to revisit the game every once in a while.
