Tell me about arcade emulation anons

I wanted to play some Shmups since I never played those that much, apparently there is a build of mame for that since mame adds imput lag or games dont play at the correct speeds or something but games I played on the specialized build are kinda glitchy.

also people here on /1cc/ seem to have cracked a bunch of stuff from newer machines to play on PC like akai katana so thats neat

also you can play the initial D games on PC too? what is this sorcery?

A lot of shmups and arcade games actually may have input lag by default, see battle garegga: has 3 frames of input lag if I recall, so really they're just accurately emulating the games and also accurately emulating how bad you suck on a real machine :^), a lot of modern arcade games are just pcs, see the taito arcade machines (games like Chaos Breaker / Dark Awake), just a embedded windows machine with low spec hardware.

Anyways, if you're trying to get good, abuse savestates, I don't care about the 'cheater' aspect or the nips didn't have this, it will accelerate your skill way faster, when you feel like you can 1cc, keep playing over and over without savestates and get used to being close to dying a lot, doing actual runs and learn to recover from bad plays in middle or near the end of your run.

Also both Final burn alpha and MAME are similar in what they do, although final burn alpha tends to run faster on weaker machines.

Actually no, it's a build of MAME for low-skill insecure babies who think input lag on an order that is completely invisible to them actually has a substantial impact on their ability to win. Just another placebo for people who refuse to git gud. Other shmup enthusiasts get along just fine with regular MAME.

mame has nightly builds, so the main download is the stable/regular download. if something fugs up, complain it to the devs

just play on regular mame and if you're going for loop 1 play normal, for multiple loops play special. do note that the saturn version has less slowdown than the original arcade
