I haven't played in bloody years, but I used to play quite a bit and I have two major complaints. Maybe they fixed it, but this is why I have a distaste for it.
The first is that the metas were always fucking cancer, and it made playing the game not fun. Every game was either just running up against an unstoppable wall because their carry got too strong (inb4 lul just stop them farming, that's not always possible without coordinating your entire team of randoms) or the enemy going for tower rushes and overwhelming your braindead teammates. The updates would just break a new character and everybody would figure out who that was in the first day, then abuse them like crazy and ignore any team play or synergy. Playing competitive was cancer, because it was almost always smurfs or five-stacks that would dominate my team of assembled randos. Playing casual was cancer, because every other game would be full of people who wanted to just actively troll and ruin the match for a giggle.
The second reason was a lot more minor, but still rubbed me the wrong way: everything was built around that stupid Valve key-and-chest system. The Internationals would happen, and every game was just farming objectives for a chance to get keys and chests. They would constantly put out new sets that you either had to pay out of the ass for (and were only available through the store) or a new collection of horribly ugly sets to ruin the look of all the characters. The sets started good and fit the characters, but once everything had to be "immortal" and make them look like a fucking LoL skin, it went to hell. Again, this has barely any effect on the game itself, but just the gearing of everything towards making the characters look uglier and uglier for the sake of shekels was annoying.
Those are not the entire reasons I stopped playing though.

No, it's just suboptimal to have more than one smite, unless you're going for some stupid concept team composition or build. There is the Unsealed Spellbook keystone mastery, which allows you to occasionally switch your summoner spells out, that allows somebody to switch out to Smite, but using that basically forces you to give up a more specialized damage/defense/healing keystone for the extra utility.
I literally only ever see multiple smites used as fucking jewtube clickbait bullshit, even though five smites are literally impossible to steal any epic monster objective from. Two smites should be virtually impossible, but I've seen a pro manage to steal a Baron Nashor kill with a level 1 Janna tornado, so anything is possible.

Only jungling that occurs these days is Enigma in the secret shop jungle, but that jungle allows Enigma to quickly respond to threats on the offlane three position, and because Enigma farms so fast he can pool items to the three position such as a ring of health and ring of regen which makes the offlaner's job a lot easier. This strat is not good against strong lane supports however.

Dota's been broken ever since they introduced spell damage/magic resistance scaling with intelligence and added a fuckton of particle effects. Now you can only guesstimate how much damage your combo is going to do where before you could quickly calculate it down to a 10 damage margin. Also it's basically impossible to accurately and quickly tell what's being cast where because half the spells have custom effects for different cosmetics. And the visual clutter in general just gets in the way of actually seeing and playing the game.
Valve fucked Dota hard and the only people who play now are retards and the people who are so invested already they can't leave.

The mechanics are there for short matches. If your match is as much of a stomp as most pub games are (2:1+ advantage in kills for one side by 15 mins) there's no reason the game should go past 30 mins. But at most ranks below high ancient, trying to get your team to work together and take your advantage onto the enemy's high ground is impossible before 45 minutes. I don't know how many times I've been sitting there losing my sanity watching my team farm jungle while all the enemy t2s are down and we have a hefty gold and xp lead. Dota is give and take dude. Games are shorter yeah, but the core game doesn't change. If you're playing dota to farm creeps just play a coin pusher game. That's the only reason you'd want a game to go longer.
As it stands right now you fight the enemy more, and the fights are the same as they've always been. Dota shines when you're fighting. It's when you can outplay or outmaneuver the enemy that gives you that high that you want. In the end what differentiates dota from league is not that the games are shorter or whatever, it's that even a severely under farmed team can still win against a team that's ahead by simply being smarter when it matters. In league that simply isn't the case.

I am really looking forward to OpenAI going public. Because that would fix Dota for me. Because what makes these bad games is the fact that you have 4 human players in your team. This wouldn't be a issue if everyone played seriously, but people are niggers and constantly grief each other.
Would be ideal if we played 1vs1 with openIA controlling the 8 bots. That way you still play against a real human but everyone is responsible for their own shit.
