If you have a PS4 at 5.05/07 then you can pirate games on it. There are exploits at higher FW's but the people who have found them are keeping them from the public for the time being for various reasons.

But anyway PS4's scene kinda sucks right now. It is possible to pirate, but only for games/updates requiring 5.05 or lower, and it's frankly annoying having to sideload game updates since it needs PSN set up for even that, assuming they exist. The system's just a poor option.

Oh shit really? I can only find a thread on Game(fuckwordfilters)FAQS commenting that it got an update recently and that apparently other games are getting them. If so does that apply to PS3 as well? As bad as their policy is I actually didn't expect them to get developers to censor things in post, and if they were forced to, that should terrify any potential developer, especially given this is a 4-year-old game. This is one instance I really hope they continue neglecting Vita but the scene for that's pretty advanced as far as pirating and game updates so it'd hardly matter.

Basically Free Mode in 1.02 doesnt let you get certain poses or approach characters models too close together.

That said, I have slight recalls of porn pics made through Free Mode going around on the Internet, a bit after the game was released several years ago, so it was probably already censored way back before Sony's policy. I bought Natsuiro High School on sale a few days ago in the JP PSN without remembering this but I suppose the upside is that I could share the game once piracy is actually available

Yeah it's not like on Vita where you have the update being separately downloaded (which can be cancelled) alongside the digital game. The PS4 just outright download and install the update alongside the game.

Is that separation of downloading the game and patch also the case on PS3? I might need to go and re-download it in that case. Fuck me. I actually didn't expect such an issue, this happened to the Xbox360 versions of Gal*Gun too, but not PS3. I assumed better.

What do you think "unreleased" means? The hacks have either been announced or proven with a demo, but not actually released. They can't patch anything if they don't actually know what the exploit is doing, unless by coincidence, they discover and fix the fault independently.

Once it's public the console maker can reverse engineer it and figure out what is wrong and patch it out. Similarly, Vita's got its own 3.69/3.70 jailbreak due for release in a couple of weeks since the system is end-of-life and has basically nothing else left to release, but it needs some prep work.

There are exceptions mind. It is impossible to patch out any of the 3DS's bootrom issues without a new hardware revision (strangely they didn't do this with N2DS) and the Switch's Fusée Gelée bug was actually disclosed to hardware makers first since it affected many more devices than just the Switch. That can be patched out of existing units but only if sent to Nintendo, not through standard firmware updates.

Ultimately it's situational but typically with consoles you want as many people to enjoy it, but also within a reasonable timeframe since it often empowers people, on top of it being important for preservation reasons, for example with games that go out-of-print. A copying standard needs to exist before that.

The system has a couple of nice/good JP games. But the library as a whole is not groundbreaking at all (should I say rather mediocre), the PS4 does everything worse than a PS3 outside of the games themselves (media player, OS, online), and the Vita has gotten far more my attention in general. Sony also damaged its reputation through its american branch.

That's the PS4's default behavior if you just mash through the set up of it. You can change it to whether or not it will check/download/install updates or not in the settings. Only online necessary operations will force you to connect to the internet and install an update.
