It's alright if you're only playing pokemon or superstar saga on it, but megaman zero is built around using the GBA's more ergonomic design.

Might as well ask while there's a thread. I got a free 3DS a while back and the OFW it's running is within hackable range, specifically for soundhax via homebrew launcher, though it seems like I could always just go with an "all version" method like a flash cart as well. That said, researching the former, it seems like soundhax is finicky and the process may not immediately take. I figure I ought to ask in advance if, should the 3DS freeze in the process and have to be rebooted, will it at least retain access to homebrew launcher if it gets that far, or is it an "all in one go" sort of thing? Because the latter sounds like it could get really obnoxious.

Yeah, I've also been looking into the flash cart route as well, specially one that doesn't have the "time bomb" status. Last DS flash cart I had was a piece of shit anyhow. Unfortunately, I can't really make online purchases for the foreseeable future, so I'm just hoping the one I'm eyeing doesn't get discontinued in the meantime, the way the DSTWO plus was prior.

Part of why I'm keeping my DS Lite around, since I've heard some DS games actually have outright issues being ran with the 3DS' backwards compatibility, even beyond visual ones. That, and ability to still play my GBA carts.

I know that, and it just makes it even worse, now you'll have to mind your strokes with the stylus because of the tiny screen, have you actually played DS games that make heavy use of the stylus on a 3DS? It's a nightmare exactly because the bottom screen isn't filled out, this isn't a problem with games that use the bottom screen simply for the map/skills/inventory, but games like osu takatae ouendan are impossible to truly enjoy on a 3DS.

Because you're dealing with console hacking. It's actually no laughing matter even if the tools have gotten a lot simpler. Unless the photo is really bad, I can't even find your error code. If your 3DS was not hacked at all I'd just send it to Nintendo to fix. They will update it no doubt, but it's impossible to patch out ntrboot and sighax.

VNDS lets you play some of the TYPE-MOON VNs though technicaly that's for DS. That also exists for Vita, and there's a few Ren'py VN ports for that too, as far as eroge though just Katawa Shoujo and Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o. Even on Vita though the text is smaller with things like DDLC so god knows how it is for 3DS.

That's the thing. Even though the 3ds is still on store store shelves and not officially discontinued. Nintendo literally stopped fixing the original launch systems like a year a half ago. I mean wtf Nintendo come on! That's probably one of the scummiest things Nintendo has done in years. They still fix some of Wii systems, but oh if you got a 3ds fuck you am I right.

What do you mean by usable? First off you won't have to worry about the screens being TN/LCD as the N2DSXLs are all TN, the 3D slider is gone, it has easy access to the SD card and you won't turn off the 3DS accidentally, it also has bluetooth in case you want to pair wireless headphones to it, but the console's build quality is noticeably shitty; flimsy, too light this is exactly why i went with a OLED Vita and a O3DS and it won't survive too many drops, it also obviously got rid of the 3DS gimmick which IMO is the entire reason you got a 3DS instead of a Vita, i'd say pass unless you really want a 3DS, for $120 you can get a much better N3DS most models have LCD screens, swappable faceplates, best stylus, screens are the ideal size for DS emulation, hardmodding the c-stick to replace it with a PSP thumbstick is easy and doesn't even need unscrewing, the only downside is having to remove two screws to get at the SD card, this wasn't an issue when freeshop was a thing but right now your options are either slowly FTPing games to it or removing the screws completely as the backplate sort of clicks into place IF you're willing to search around on pawnshops/try your luck on faceberg marketplace, you could also get a brand new N3DSXL since most stores still carry the "galaxy" model, i've seen them go for $200 and you obviously won't have to buy games for it, only a flashcart and a big SD card.

just dont get the bottom of the barrel, and you should be fine though if you're concern is more about security of your credit card then prepaid visa cards are always an option

on the topic of 3DS modding is there a limit to the size of an sd card you can store your games on?

I tried to copy everything I had on a 32g to a 64g but my 2DS just didn't want to read the new card. is there a step that I am forgetting here? 32g is feeling a bit cramped at the moment

According to cuckchan and r_ddit the max is 128GB, anything bigger and data gets corrupted, but then again they all use those shitty cheap miza shark SD cards so who knows, i use 64GB on mine, there aren't that many good games on 3DS and they tend not to be bigger than 1.5GB, exceptions are senran kagura burst (2GB), senran kagura 2 (3GB+1.5GB for the DLC) and all the pokemon games (3.7GB).

Did you enable hidden folders/files on windows before moving SD cards? Maybe that's why it didn't work.

The N2DSXL feels cheap, O3DS/N3DS or bust, i've had my O3DS since october 2013 and the circle pad is still in one piece.
