I took us a long time, but Dragon Ball Climax, DB/v/'s open-source BYOND game, is finally in a playable state.

Short answer: DU is finished and shit and Climax is in beta and not shit.
Long answer: A lot. You'd have to log in and see for yourself. Its an open world sandbox Dragon Ball simulator like DU, but with a much different combat, stat, and skill system. Skills are obtained via skill trees, theres a stamina system thats reliant on you actually engaging in the game world so you can't afk train/meditate all day, etc.

Optimizing the code to handle the lag should be a big priority. I heard that having a ton of tabs open (Stats, Commands, Learning, etc) has an impact, so we could work on condensing them or implement a command to toggle individual tabs on/off. Having come back for a bit recently after not touching this autistic kindergarten sandbox for a year just to see how shit is. The server at this point is people fellating themselves as they play their epic self insert OCs they made a year ago and a few newer people largely put on the sideline because they aren't in the 'in group' or don't suck up enough to the admin and his cabal.
There may not be many good places for shit like DBZ RP, but honestly anything is better than this.
Semi-polite sage as to at least give the server a chance to improve and hey, maybe things WILL get better. I doubt it severely so long as the same few people try to cling to power and authority, but I've been wrong before.

From observation and reports I've gathered, often if one of these people needs help dealing with a (((discontent))), one of the others will log in after being pinged. Additionally, chat logs are (or at least were, from what I was told) read to look for wrongthink, advantageous information their characters can use, or ammo to use against the people they don't like.

In a previous bout of drama, Golym (((conveniently))) logged in to assist in shouting down the opposing side and attempting to mitigate their accusations against Iro and Co.
He also recently logged in to Climax to attempt to have his friend, the main coder of Climax, buff his prefered race and nerf a race he didn't like. As for Weed, I have no issues with him personally but he is a bit young and impressionable. I wish him only the best in whatever he's doing now that he isn't wasting his life with this.
I do agree that another headmin, or admin team in general should be put in power. Put the head coder for Climax in direct contact with the Host so that the chain of communication isn't defunct if the current headmin isn't available at absolute minimum.

Let me tell you a story about the last NWN RP server I played on. I lied when I said I never RP'd online again earlier in the post. I returned exactly one time, just to see. I decided to play on Arelith because I didn't want to play on a faggy homebrew setting I knew nothing about and it has a lot of players.
For those who don't know, Arelith is one of the, if not the, oldest NWN RP servers. It existed before either of the expansions came out. I am sure some of you can see where this is going.
I made an unscrupulous mercenary character because I figured that would give me the most opportunities to join guilds, get work, and meet people. This worked exactly as I had thought, but the only problem was that I eventually met the worst part of the playerbase. I have to take an aside about the server's mechanics first before I go further. Arelith is a very good sandbox for roleplay because factions are scripted in to the game as player-controlled and created entities, and the GMs are very diligent about working with faction leaders so that their characters can buy real estate for their members to use. Many services and facilities like shops and crafting stations are owned by player factions. They can also control territories, including towns. Wars are started and waged by players. And so on.
So my character meets a few people to run dungeons with, and occasionally PCs would also arrange a paid contract with me. Eventually I found an upstart mercenary company. The leader seemed decent enough. A military man through and through. He didn't have a presence in Cordor (the main city which most players start in) but he has a lot of money backing him and if I was willing to join him, I would be made his lieutenant. My character was Lawful Evil, so I decided this was a good opportunity in the long run and agreed to join him. I set about recruiting people when I wasn't dungeoning, which sounds like work but in reality is just an easy excuse to roleplay with other people, and was significantly successful. Eventually after a couple of weeks (in real life) we have about twelve people. I met the captain's backer, who was a ((banker)) in the ((sorcerer's guild)). By talking to other random people I had met while travelling, I discovered that this guild was generally aggressive and to be avoided. I think it was a tree-hugging druid that warned me about them.
Anyway, our effort culminated in a ceremony and dinner, which was a celebration for a joint venture between said ((guild)) and our mercenary company. Enter the tiefling. A seemingly max-level character that was representing the ((sorcerer's guild)). This was an extremely obnoxious and unlikeable character already, but the night of said ceremony, she usurped our entire faction. The player behind my captain quit the game permanently and I'm half-sure he was just the banker multiboxing, or one of his friends, and that the whole thing was a big joke. I also found out that this tiefling was also the Knight Commander of the Cordor military, along with an uncountable number of titles I am forgetting, and it was obvious at this point that this player and his in-group get off on destroying or controlling as many factions as possible. So despite the parts I enjoyed, I decided it wasn't worth playing with such an astoundingly annoying group of fuckwads and stopped playing there, while the majority of my experience was still happy.
That should hopefully paint a picture of the level of soul-destroying autism we are missing here. No hope for player growth, just a faggy little group of shitters playing the game since launch, enjoying nothing but lording over in the one game they ever succeeded at.

Getting stronger is similar to in DU. You need to use the train verb, meditate verb, or actually fight with people to gain. Whether training or meditating is better depends on your race, but fighting will be better than either of them. Once your BP increases enough, you'll get skill points to spend in the skill tree. Skills will give you points in your stats, so you determine your build by choosing skills that help what you want to do.

Looks like something is crashing the server that either goes back father than a day, or is caused by something other than changes we've intentionally made. Either way, I think we'll keep the serb down until we can troubleshoot it better tomorrow (because I have no idea why this is happening)

I did, and so far nothing's gone wrong with the test serb. I've tried firing guns, shooting myself with guns, triggering lssj, putting books in the bank, all sorts of things. I don't think I'll be able to figure this out tonight.

So an update on this, I left a test serb up all night with an albino namekian meditating, and while the serb was still there when I got back, it reported an infinite loop on reboots. Gonna take a look at that and see if it's the problem

After looking it over, it doesn't seem like this is the source of the crashing. Nothing has crashed my test serb so far, so I'm unsure why the live serb keeps going down. We'll probably try to test the live serb later today. In the mean time, post character ideas for the new wipe!

Wouldn’t it be better to just reuse old characters and/or plots until a longer wipe is guaranteed? At this rate people are going to have creative burnouts. In my personal opinion, its best to hold off on updates until after a normal-length wipe is completed, otherwise we’ll keep wiping early until there’s a new wipe every week and we become an overblown SS13 round. There’d be exceptions with balancing or bug fixing of course.

It's fine to reuse your old characters if you want, the reason we had to wipe this time was a bug with BP that sent us to the point it could crash the serb. You just have the opportunity to try something new this time around.

Last wipe training was bugged. You could train moves for free as long as they had points. Lets say the trainee had 2 points they and the trainer taught them regenerate or split form they would still have 2 points.

I changed the train and meditate changes a bit, you can now afk for up to 10 minutes while using them with diminishing gains across that time. You'll get maximal gains from them by doing the active task, but you can leave the game alone for a bit and still get somewhere

Since we've not been able to get any good arr pee going due to wipe-destroying bugs in the past few wipes, we're moving toward more of a sandbox environment, where the rates aren't as limited and the point is to just fight and test skills moreso than any RP. We'll move back to RP when we have things more stable.
