/v/'s usual recommendation of watching Steve1989 eat old MRE's and try not to die of Botchulism from the MGS3 threads lead my down a wierd food hole on youtube. This lead to "Townsend and Sons" which is this historical reenactment fanatic that makes food in the 18th century way right down to the tools and has had on survivalists talking about the frontier times and survival.
Its given me a hankering for a game where cooking, hunting and preparing food is a key component. But 'survival' in game terms often means zombies or generic early access memeshit and theres very little stuff set before 1900 thats not medieval with fantasy elements and while i like the initial prep idea Monster Hunter once you have a few thousand hours under your belt becomes a 'i can see the code' game where you know all the tells and dont take damage and can power through things like hot or cold weather.
Are there any comfy games where you can explore some autumnal land, hunting animals, foraging plants and making your way in the world thats not the shitty grinding systems of RDR2 or heavily modded minecraft? i mean Breath of the Wild had the right idea but once you know "cook one honey on its own for the best stamina refill item in the game" its all kinds of broken.
