They only recently added a search engine which shows how rushed the platform was initially built upon. That's why they went the strong arm route of dumping money on developers to divert revenue to them. Even if they finally get it up to the same level as Steam in a year or two, they still have to deal with the Chinese involvement and the security issues they've had of being hacked.
Unless you're funding the company to build a game from the ground up for your online store, PC exclusivity is stupid. Developers should have as many options as their customers to buy where they want to buy and sell where they want to sell. We don't need a Launchers War on the PC platform.

It mostly just says "Steam is shit and nobody will leave it because it's where their things already are. Epic store is shit, but at least it's trying to be a competitor to Steam, and it competing by pulling exclusives is the only way to pull customers away from Valve at this point in time." It doesn't come off so much as defending Epic or Tencent as just saying that everybody sucks and that fairness isn't possible anymore, as well as naively dismissing the ethics issues that Chinese companies (and the Chinese government) historically have.
The only thing it really fucks up on is sweeping under the rug how much the Chinese government and Chinese companies work at international espionage and data-mining (ie. even if Epic games isn't sharing data with them intentionally, it doesn't mean that Tencent isn't trying to milk whatever they can out of them), and by nearly completely ignoring the obvious conclusion that if all game stores are shit, we should just ditch game stores, not try to give power to a shitty one that takes power from the shittier one.
