How may pentagon wars style situations do we have going in the game industry you think? How many decent concepts were ruined by committee?

>"I'd like to present Beyond! The single player campaign will be over 60 hours in length! It will feature a massive open world brimming with rich environmental detail! We're also working to integrate base building AND a fully featured weapon customization system. This will be the most expansive and engaging RPG of year that will put its contemporaries to shame!"

>The suits clap

>A suit speaks up "What about CO-Op?"

>The dev winces "CO-OP, sir?"

>"Yea, like Destiny! We can sell twice the copies if it has CO-OP!"

>"W-well actually, the way the map and quests are designed, Co-Op isn't really a feasible-"

> another suit speaks up "Think we can integrate an in-game cash shop?"

>dev worried laughter "Sir, it's a single player RPG…"

>Aother suit speaks "This map looks too big, we don't want players calling it a "walking simulator". You think you could add some planes or flying vehicles?"

>Confused dev "A plane?"

>A different suit chimes in "What about a jetpack, those are cool!"

>suits start clapping "Brilliant" "Great Idea"

>dev is increasingly worried "jet what?"

>years later at the Anthem trailer reveal

>….

>"As you can see, the jatpacks allow you to quickly explore the environment. You can join up to four friends and explore the world together. We have instanced raids and…" Almost tearing up. The dev has long since died inside.

Do game devs even do these in person pitches to stock holders? I thought it was more of "make sure you include x, y, and z, otherwise go nuts."

aren't just about all video game executives that retarded?

Pentagon Wars is funny but not particularly accurate. The Bradley's development got fucked up more by the introduction of the BMP-1 than any politics or dumbass generals, and while it took more money and time than it should have it still ended up being a pretty good IFV.

The firing ports were really goddamn stupid though.

I'm sure someone has to let the stock holders know whats going. If Wikipedia is to be believed multiplayer was part of the original design but like the Bradley there were lots of issues with it's development.

As long as its funny through right?

I like it, there's just a lot of people who think it's depicting God's own truth rather than a pastiche of defense acquisition fuck-ups. If they'd made it about the Mark 14 torpedo I wouldn't have any complaints.

I mean I get that there has to be some level communication, but I can't really imagine some no name shareholder giving a shit about the game enough to give design tips.

>ywn Pentagon wars 2: Lockmart Boogaloo.

Also why burguers don't revolt against the DoD?

Russia and China are matching american capabilities in conventional forces with less than 200 billion budget and you guys are getting ass kicked by insurgents despite massive overwhelming superiority on paper.

Games are becoming shit due to the programmers and original creators being kicked out and replaced by transgender abominations.

Why work at a hostile work environment when there's much better industries to work on?

We would need a new post gulf war/cold war lay offs of programmers and engineers by the aerospace industry to rejuvenate the industry.

It's no coincidence that great games like mechwarrior, Falcon, novalogic flight Sims, Jane's stuff and others came in that time period.

Worst Korea was doing military esports teams twelve years ago, so it's nothing new.

>a pretty good IFV

The Bradley ended up as a useless, overpriced deathtrap, we ended up going to the canucks for a replacement, and the entire idea of an IFV (instead of just reusing a tank chassis stripped down to hold passengers, like the kraut's Marder) is retarded to begin with.

The only thing I can think of that probably went through that was Valkyrie Profile 3 - Hirst being converted into Lighting Returns - Final Fantasy XIII

With drones, cyberwarfare, and logistial fuckery it seems like you'd want soldiers who as as capable if not more so with computers than traditional physical combat. Do traditional sports offer that kind of expertise?

You do to some degree, but you aren't gong to get that from DOTA and Overwatch. Your average soldier also isn't operating drones or conducting cyberwarfare.

Stuff close to, but not exactly like, this can happen. Usually though, it's just the effort of one or two execs like that twat Soderlund from the Anthem article where he got the build, played it, said 'This looks like shit!', and demanded changes that Bioware had to do. More often than not, stupidity in decision making comes from situations like what described in the same article - a room full of people with roughly the same level in the company meaning they can't overrule each other who can't agree, don't decide on anything, and change their fucking minds every other day. Design by committee is real, sort of.

>>16331621

No. Stock holders don't give a flying fuck what the game is so long as it sells. Listen to some of the quarterly financial calls anon, the people asking questions could be talking about animal feed, blenders, cars; anything - it's just a product to be sold and make them money.

>>16331783

Empire's in decline, anon. Go read The Fate of Empires by Glubb.

Most soldiers don't fly drones or participate in cyberwarfare; the ones that do spend months training on it in particular. Your average grunt doesn't need to know any of that stuff.
