I'm wrong, it isn't so much bloom as it is bright reflections from the sun(not sure what the technical term is). It still looks kind of plastic toy-y when the sun isn't in view, and too shiny and metallic when the sun is being reflected. I'm just not sure it translated well since I can think back to a lot of stages in CTR and it usually looked good.
Also I can already tell journos are going to bitch and moan about stage hazards like that venus fly trap, or the spiders in the haunted mansion with the super tight 90 degree turns, I loved that fucking level.

The lighting, shadows and graphics in general give off a university games development team vibe. It looks like they're trying to show off a bunch of visual techniques without showing an eye for style.
Comparing the Mario Kart 8 footage in this thread to it, you can see a degree of professionalism and holding back that isn't present in the CTR video. It's like the MK8 director understands system limitations and focuses on a tight, visual presentation that pushes gameplay to the forefront. While CTR's director doesn't give a fuck and wants as many shiny graphics, lighting and shading options crammed in.
The gameplay looks alright, but I'd rather a new incarnation that aims to improve on the last version. Unfortunately that'll never happen because games development is going the way of Hollywood.

This. Even just emulating Crash and Spyro at 1080p (or even 4K) is better than the remakes.
The mistake most companies are making is they "remake" a game in a new engine, and they don't honor the source materials color palettes, lighting, etc….eg. the new Spyro games having fog everywhere, when the original didn't need that because it used LOD. Or characters just looking entirely different / having too much changed on them. It was a downgrade on many fronts.
Instead, just remaster the existing product without re-coding anything. Spice up the graphics, the 3D stuff, the audio, and visual effects to be better/higher poly count, but by all means do NOT re-code the gameplay mechanics unless you're confident that you can mimic the original feel of the game. If you don't have access to the original games source code, your remake is going to feel like a different game entirely…and it won't honor the source material. A remaster should honor both the original games looks, and also its source code for the feel of movement/gameplay.

The term you're after is "specular".
A lot of lazy remakes have too much specular, you can tell straight away it's made in either the Unity or Unreal engine by looking for this (as well as many visual filters smothering the screen at all times).
New and Tasty was terrible for this. They removed so much visual clutter in response to customer feedback, and now in their newest Oddworld game trailer for the next game…they've added that all back in. The devs don't listen, and are either lazy, far less skilled than those who made the originals, or both.

The visual fidelity here is much closer to the original than the N. Sane trilogy was to the originals. There was a lot of shit that put me off that from the very start, from washed out coloration on a beautiful and colorful environment, to shit like what seemed like unfinished animations, e.g. N. Gin in 2's beam not melting the platforms but simply being a lazy green laser.
This however? There's still some changes to the palette which I disagree with, for instance, Papu's Pyramid was intentionally supposed to be golden and yellow nearly everywhere, but from what I'm watching, the karts behave like they used to, and if that's the case, that's what I care about. CTR and CNK, which also has tracks featured, had glorious amounts of vertical movement possible and incorporated with optimal trials. Though the visual fuckups with N. Sane trilogy put me off, the kind of shit I see, especially when I see the re-done CNK courses, is a lot truer to source material, and so long as the actual kart control stays true to original that is what makes the game a joy to play. Hell, I have more an issue with no Clancey Brown as Cortex than I do with the green on the track on PP. So long as you can still fly around the corners at MAX SPEED I will likely play the shit out of this.
With the N. Sane trilogy, somehow they managed to keep a lot of the tricks that were used to play the game fast/skillfully, which was one of the weird faithful bits, while taking out some awful ass oversights like being able to walk the ropes of the bridge levels - that is a big one for me. Pending you can still effectively keep MACH MOMENTUM the way you could by chaining boosts together after hitting single turbo pad on a course, then this remake will be good enough and maintain a skill level that makes it fun to play against others. From what I'm seeing, you can maintain that momentum, although if they really fine tuned the "bigger the bar, closer to the edge, bigger the boost" for the power slide like was necessary, shit will be as crazy as it was.
It was never F-zero levels of forward speed, but the vertical motions being incorporated in optimal play was one of the most fun parts.

30fps being the standard is only a part of the problem, the game is ugly as fuck, I know technically it's much better than DKCTF, but DKCTF is more aesthetically pleasing, as well as just plain better looking, just compare the fur between the characters, and holy shit Donkey Kong's fur actually looks somewhat believable as fur at the distance you are looking at it, Crash's fur looks like random fuzz all over his body, the game may have more advanced technology but it's application of this is honestly pathetic, and on consoles Tropical Freeze is 60fps, Crash is 30fps as a standard. This shit goes on with all of these games. When people call something soulless this is easily the best example of it.

The biggest thing that jumps out at me is the same problem that N-Sane trilogy had, and especially Spyro Reignited - the fucking colors. Looks like everything got desaturized. Between that, the lighting glaring off the road and the many details they added to the background that clash with the foreground due to the poor color choices, it's a mess to look at. And notice how Tiny himself is in the shadow most of the damn time. It might be just a shit quality video but the art direction itself is just not good.
Also, I can't place it but something about the music sounds cheap. Maybe the lack of bass? Something about these remixes always sounds off. Why not just use the pre-console mixes of the original?

Tag Team Racing is great and I have no idea why it gets so much hate, The writing is funny, the inclusion of a semi open world that plays more like a standard crash game is fun and the whole combining cars mechanic makes for some great multiplayer. Sure it was a little too easy but that's the only bad thing I have to say about it.
