They never even partnered or gave permission for the character to be put into Fortnite. So the character is named "Reaper", but his pickaxe is a tactical pencil, and his glider is a fucking muscle car. But akshually technically, it's "not" John Wick. The Paygay 2 thing is inexcusable, on the other hand, the entire Wick crossover brought nothing of any actual value to that game, the perk deck is utter shit, and the character isn't even voiced by Keanu. Then they put out another Wick themed DLC pack, which was paid that added two OK heists and some mediocre guns, which is even worse.

The gameplay is actually pretty solid, sadly the updates are always one step forward, two steps back. For instance, they recently added in a nice little feature where you’d get health or shield per kill, rewarding you for the better that you did in the match, then out of nowhere they removed it as it gave people who took time to actually git gud an unfair advantage. Guns are always massively changing so you never know which is safe to stick with or how shit it will be in the next update. About the only thing that’s remained consistent is building which is something you do have to git gud at for higher level play, but they are constantly adjusting the materials you can get and how they work in updates.

So there’s good gameplay there, but the constant updates and fucking with the balancing practically ruin the whole thing.

Now the gimmick in the original Fortcuck game was crafting weapons and tools then building barricades and structures, now the smartest shit that was Epic did was repackaged all of that crap into their newly minted cancerous game into all of that, because even if the retards from Bluehole got a headstart in the BR genre they popularized, it wasn't optimize, their gook coders suck, and it wasn't toaster friendly, now Epic got the chink marketers to get the game to hit hard with jewtubers and twitch cucks and thots, and presto, you got a popular game that continues to suck dry everyone's IQ to whoever plays it

A lot of people quickly forget or don't even know that Fortnite started as a co-op fortress defense zombie shooter.

You'd have a horde of zombies rushing your base that you had to kill and inbetween waves, build your defenses with whatever resources you could scavenge.

A bit like Zombies in CoD but with far more building options since the entire base is built by you, not just barricades.

That's why building is part of the game, because of the singleplayer game that requires you to pay for it but nobody plays or talks about it.

It's just a gimmick that made multiplayer different from other shooters and thus earned it popularity while it was novel. Now, it's just a source of annoyances, which is why >>16321697 is correct and why Apex easily soaked so many players from Fortnite.

If you're asking for the shooting itself, it's standard shit, nothing special. Less long range pixel hunting that PUBG but it's still low-TTK camp fests. I'm sure FPS aficionados would be able to level more criticism at it, but for the most standard it's standard shit you'd expect from any FPS game.

However, the issue is with the Battle Royale concept that's really not a very good one. Last Man Standing, how it used to be called, isn't a particular popular gameplay mode for other shooters because it's not particularly fun to just watch when you die when you could have respawned and keep on playing for frags instead. And even then Last Man Standing with 10 players was already something quite crazy that would make the first guy dying have to wait quite a while. LMS with 100 players? That's absolutely ridiculous.

The thing about Battle Royale is that it works because the mindset of the players is different. It's an arcade game for them, their final position in the table is their highscore. They'll obviously try to be number 1 but being 12 or 23 is already pretty good, not really a failure on it's own. Being 90 below could be considered a failure but then again, you didn't really lost anymore than being placed 5th, you'll just try again. It's like playing Pacman, eventually dying but what matters is how far you got.

It's basically a game where you can't actually lose, despite 99 players losing every match, so it doesn't bruise ego's that easily and you can often land above 50 if you play the game regularly anyway.

Really, the only thing that turns me off from the whole idea is the prospect of spending more time in loading screens and falling down the bus than actually playing the game. You'd need practice to last longer but if most of your time is spent starting a new game, you're not gonna get that practice, just a boring waiting experience.

In good games, a headshot results in a kill. In Fortnite, a headshot results in two opposing towers being erected. In good games, ambushing a player results in an easy kill. In Fortnite, ambushing a player initiates a fortress building contest. In good games, winning a shootout involves having better reflexes, target acquisition, and skill with controlling the recoil of your weapon, combined with another layer of things like map control and zoning. In Fortnite, winning a shootout involves, well, building walls when you get shot, and hoping that the dice rolls that determine your shotgun spread are in your favor.

I won't make the same points as everyone else, but I will point out that Jeff Kaplan gave an interview where he said he didn't expect "maining" to be popular. Technically, they designed Overwatch from the ground up to be a game entirely about counterpicking. Objectively, that's a real shit way to play a game. The one reason Paladins was better than Overwatch was that it locked people into their characters. When you played Fernando and someone on the enemy team picked Skye, that faggot had to play around your existance. Skye would have to stop throwing smoke bombs on the point and running in like a mongoloid and actually try to fucking flank for once. But if you play Overwatch, and you like a character like Pharah, the first time you kill someone, they will pick McCree or Homo 76. You will then have to decide to either be dead weight, or to pick something that isn't simply deleted from the game because someone got mad that you killed them.

Also, having such a large character list is irrelevant whenever a small number of them are viable at a given time. You're not really being offered a choice of characters if they're all designed to be thrown out for a few select situations. Sure, there will always be that fucking faggot ready to spew shit about how he won a game as an attack Torbjorn. That's irrelevant - that's an issue with the match making deciding a player who is good enough to shoot tanks to death at point blank with Torbjorn should be playing with people who are physically unable to track a moving target in any capacity.

Are you aware that the BR craze started before Fortnite, and that they hurried and tacked on a BR mode after PUBG became so freakishly popular, just like every other desperate developer did? I wouldn't fault you for not knowing. I would assume that knowledge of BR history is a little shaky around these parts, since we're not the kind of niggers who buy into that sort of thing.

I find the gameplay of Fortnite to be incredibly fun. However, I don't like the presentation or the company behind it so I don't play it often. What I like about it is that it's a game with a lot of room for skill and counterplay. It allows for various playstyles and methods of approaching situations which I quite like. I once had someone build a ramp, jump over my head, place a trap under me, have me die as it springed up, run past, and then shotgun blast someone. It happened so fucking instantly I couldn't believe it fucking happened. Shit like this happens all the time and it adds a certain level of flair and charm to everything. The building is a bitch to learn and I can respect people who can do it in a matter of seconds. The gunplay is fine, it's nothing special but it has good feedback and isn't clunky which is all I want. The map is of an appropriate size and never feels too big, and doesn't feel too small. It allows for stealth which is fun.

It doesn't deserve it's popularity. If it took itself seriously, ditched the shitty fucking aesthetic and added lolis it might be a lot better.

Fortnite is a good FPS game with a terrible aesthetic and a bad ruleset (battle royale) that was ruined when its metagame shifted towards extremely defensive playstyles enabled by the game's building mechanics. As far as its movement and basic close range gun battles go, it's a great if simplistic FPS game with a reasonable skill ceiling mainly thanks to the focus on shotgun duels with relatively free and fluid movement where there is a great deal of room for FPS skills to shine.

HOWEVER, the people on this board who are extremely bad at multiplayer games need Fortnite to be a bad game because it pisses them off that kids are better than them at a game that's as gay as Fortnite. No, beating reddit at tribes that one time doesn't count.

There's nothing wrong with the core FPS mechanics at the core of Fortnite. It's the standard industry tactic of taking a good thing and burying it under as much shit as humanly possible. If the building mechanics had been taking in a better direction so they enabled duels rather than getting in their way, Fortnite would continue to be a fun and popular game.

The fact that it's a battle royale game is the strongest argument against Fortnite, because the number of opportunities you will ever have to duel skilled players is extremely low. Compare this to oldschool arena shooters where it's a constant string of battles one after another. Battle royale is just not interesting enough as a tactical element to justify just how little you actually get to fight because of it.

Battle royales in their current structure are garbage that through some freak accident are tailor made for twitch faggots.

Heres how a match goes:

You start the match picking a place to start at.

You then go to that place and look for guns to shoot anyone else who followed you there.

As a streamer you get to play a game of chance with your audience. "Oh look guys I got two shotguns, we're getting that gamer bread tonight boys"

For the non-streamer this is stupid, because you get an inconstant RNG crap-shoot. RNG were you always end up with crap guns, crap amounts of ammo, or crap health. Usually dying to things that are outside of your control. Assuming you are lucky don't suck, you kill everyone in your starting area.

Between these zones of enagement their are long stretches of walking distance were a Streamer can chit chat with his herd of cattle saying things like "Thank you for the $20 donation loyal fans. Would you like to see my tits?"

For a regular gamer these long walks are boring as fuck and sever no purpose but to pad time for no reason. Maybe you loot a little along the way or maybe you get insta-killed by a sniper. Either way you are dealing with bullshit that is probably out of your control.

For the streamer none of this RNG is bad. He can ham it up for drama, while still maintaining his "pro gamer" image. Got insta-sniped by someone? "Gee shucks goys, nothing I could do. I wonder if he was stream sniping?"

And you just repeat this process until you reach the end game where the circle gets tighter and tighter. Usually this is when the games autistic bullshit shines through, because the people who made it that far are going to be sweaty faggots heavily relying on all the bullshit tricks they used to stay alive so long.

For a game like PUBG they are going to be relying on hiding and glitching through a bush to snipe people. For a game like Fortcuck they are just going to be building crap autisticly fast.

The only battle royal gamemode I've ever played that was fun was the CSGO battleroyal. Why?

But here is the catch with battle royales, at least from what I heard and saw, never actually played them, is that once you are dead you just go into another match. You don't have to wait for the match to be over and play with the same guys on the same server, like in old Last Man Standing maps, you just go to another server. It keeps the dopamine rolling, even if you got killed first, you just load another game, maybe this time you got 23rd, another game and so on and so on. The biggest drawback to this system is that it needs a huge amount of players active, in order to have low wait ques, if they become too long, like with Cliff's failure of a game, Radical Heights, people start leaving in droves making things even worse. Unless you are the first or second most popular Battle Royale, there will never be enough players to keep the system going.

Matches in Fortnite and pretty much every BR game aren't like a regular server that you can join mid match and just play (probably losing since everyone already has an advantage in frags, but still you can play). You'll wait for the matchmaking to get another 99 twats to start a match, you'll wait for the bus to even be close the damn island and you'll have to wait until you land before you're actually playing.

Only instance I ever saw these games working as the Hi-Rez attempt since it rewarded combat and moving to Forges, exposing yourself.

This seriously battle royale games are basically "Deathmatch" games but with insanely long waiting between the engagements. There is no fucking point. I tried playing fortnite and pub g but they are just garbage games. I spend more time waiting then playing. Fighting games and actual shooters are alot better. You're definitely correct in that Fortnite's biggest problem is that it at times is very slow. Except for the first five minutes (assuming you land in Tilted) and the last five minutes (when you're fighting the last few teams all at once) the middle portion of the game is slow as shit. Most of the time, typical players will find themselves dicking around for 10-15 minutes maybe getting in a couple of fights at best. The only difference is the EXTREMELY good players, who play in tournaments. Those tournaments award winners based on kill count, which means that winning players had to not only be good at combat, but memorize the entire map and utilize psychology or strategy to figure out where other players might be at which stages of the match. When they talk about "rotations", this is what they mean: the way teams will likely "rotate" from each area or interest in the map.

Every BR game suffers from this to some extent, because the circle closes in a LINEAR fashion, calculated based on the number of teams declining in a linear fashion. But because a large number of players choose to hot-drop in a certain location (for Apex, it's Skull), the number of teams declines very quickly at first, so that by the time the first circle closes half the fucking teams are already dead. The map is basically empty so you have nothing to do until the circle closes a few more times forcing you and the other players in closer proximity.

There are three reasons why Apex is succeeding over Fortnite specifically because it mitigates this problem. First: matches are shorter, comparing about 15 minutes to about 25 minutes, meaning play is faster-paced to begin with. Second: respawning means that players who get killed in a hot-drop location have a chance to be revived, meaning the midgame portion isn't as empty of players. Third: you can hear the sounds of combat from a very large distance and track toward them to potentially third-party (something that players in tournaments take advantage of, by just shooting randomly in the air in order to attract nearby teams toward them). In Fortnite, you have to scout with your eyes (look for built structures, destroyed buildings, explosions or gunshots) because the sound simply doesn't travel very far.

Anyway, what they SHOULD do is code a dynamic circle. Just make it so it closes at a speed directly related to how many teams there are left, so the ones remaining are forced into closer quarters, and fighting will be nearly constant. Either that or make something happen in the midgame that attracts a lot of teams toward it because it contains very valuable loot or whatever.
