As much as I got some bloodrush in Sekiro or Vanquish, my most excitement would still come in planning strategy and executing it out in strategy games.

anon if I could learn to use it when I was fucking 11, you can learn to now. It's about as complex as the Starcraft editor was, but with the added "complexity" of furnishing the map with entities instead of just textures.
Resource wars with Real War Mod is great fun and I recommend it to any anon that likes RTT games. I can megalink my install if you're interested. I also taught myself a bit of German because some of the best custom campaigns and missions were all in German. It really is true what they say about language though, if you don't use it you lose it.
Men of War is what killed Sudden Strike, but 3D graphics age badly, the charm of Sudden Strike's sprites will never fade.

I was thinking more along the lines of clear as day differences your average ten year old could identify and name. Personally I like BB but it's no more a strategy than Jagged Alliance or Silent Storm. Games I again, personally, still enjoy. Or any RPGmaker tier game with turn based combat for that matter. "Oh, but I'm using strategy to win" Well, shit. With that logic you could argue Mario Cart or Tetris are strategy games just because they favor certain style of gameplay and certain forgive the buzzword: meta to play optimally.
You say BB I say. hell, Knights of Honor or TW. You say Mordheim or BFG I say Sword of the Stars or Imperium Galactica. Alternatively I'd also suggest you play something less crap than those two. Battlestar Galactica - Deadlock for example is pretty decent if you like starships doing lewd things to each other.

You could give Myth a crack if that's the kind of thing you want. It's an RTT rather than an RTS, you start levels with a pre-set group of units, and by default units that survive gain experience and will appear in place of basic units in future levels. Though really good players disable this feature.

>You could give Myth a crack if that's the kind of thing you want.
My main criteria for a strategy game nowadays is that I want at least a persistence feature. Spellcross is one of those games that I really enjoy as of lately which I have played for several days by now. I am at the "In the Eye of the Storm" level now, I often find myself having to load up a few older saves a little bit more often but I don't mind doing that its just my rather poorly executed plan to blame if anything else. So the main qualities I like about spellcross is these things. I mean just alone that there is a lot of units to choose from like M1 Abrams, Argentinian light tank, German MBT, french vehicles and so on is pretty great for me.
-Assymetric warfare (modern tech vs ancient wizardy, optional)
-A lot of units to choose from
-slav quality grafixs instead of numale hipster shit
-Simple-ish turn based system (as in it matters more the choices of your units and their qualities instead of having to worry about some tiny position details or whatever)
-Being able to research stuff and upgrading your units
-Being able to rename your units
-Map atmosphere (you can hear things like valley whisper, distant bird cries and urban noises or what is left thereof)
X-Com and UFO series kinda comes close to my criteria but my main gripe with those games is that its way too infantry centric for my taste. I already finished playing Aftermath and Aftershock. I would like to play X-Com Apocalypse next but the trouble with that its that land vehicles is a very bad choice especially with the only tank available because as soon those road tiles are destroyed the land unit gets destroyed too no matter how strong it is which makes land vehicles a bad investment. They also got rid of those weapon platform or whatever it was named from previous X-Com series which sucks, so I can only hope that OpenApoc will get finished soon and there is a mod that adds in much more land vehicles/tanks to it or something. Also I already finished playing some Total Annihilation campaign (2x Core campaign, 1x arm campaign not done yet) and RA 2 + expansion with the Soviet campaign. I don't enjoy those kind of strategy games anymore as it doesn't encourage long term investment and thinking or the lack thereof.

Is this Gate:The Game?
fedc67 No.16338099
>>16338041
I have never heard of Gate:. What kind of thing is it? Well anyway I try to describe my best abilities what Spellcross is about. The storyline goes like this, a level of chaos and destruction of incomprehensible levels has appeard all of suddenly without warning, citys are in ruins, thunderstorms, massive water floods and other environmental destruction announced the apocalypse. Ancient hordes of unknown enemy appeared suddenly that came with mystery methods that are hellbent on massacring the population and those that are standing against them merciless. The world is now in a state of chaos in a proportion never known to man before. The military situation is unknown, knowledge of the opponent is minimal. You the player have absolutely no clue what kind of might you are standing against, you are forced to use every possible weapons and men available to you in a desperate hope to destroy the force somehow that is only known as "other side "(cz version). What is only known so far that the enemy has access to magic which helped them to cause this immense amount of chaos in the first place. It is a game made by czecho-slovak company called cauldron it is their first and last game of their sorts, their next games are of totally different genre and have nothing in common at all with Spellcross. It is not very well know in western europe or in america because the commercial success is nothing in comparasion to Command and Conquer Tiberian Dawn. Also you should play the tutorial missions first and on hard mode only because then you will get to see how thight your money really is, experienced units matters alot and the more damage they have the more it will cost to "repair" it so be careful. Light infantry and Heavy infantry is obsolote on the next level.

It's a colony sim with combat. It plays like a streamlined Dwarf Fortress in space. Keeping your morale up, balancing scientist vs worker in your workforce and choosing your path through the rather expansive tech tree are more important than army composition or micro.
You are assaulted by earthquakes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, meteors, volcanoes, the rival colony, and a berserk terraforming microbe called the blight that will grey-goo (green-goo?) the planet. There are early warning techs for natural disasters and the disaster response building to mitigate damage, but you'll still need to manually idle buildings to prevent people from dying in a bad earthquake or a tornado or a huge meteor.
The campaign goal is to build a starship to evacuate the planet. Typically each mission has a hard time cap when a lava flow or the blight make continued play impossible, and you want to delay completing your objectives as late as you safely can to grow your population and research as many techs as possible. This means that if you play the early missions well, the later missions will be easier, but if you play badly you will pay for it later.
Eden is the easier of the two factions because they play very conventionally. Thor's hammer turrets with a sprinkling of acid cloud and EMP make you pretty much invincible. Plymouth plays best with guerrilla tactics like capturing vehicles, retreating while firing mines, and suicide units.
78a349 No.16338272

Oh, never research leisure studies unless you are at endgame and have unemployment issues, because morale will only suffer a malus for not having rec facilities if you have the tech for it. Same goes for hospitals, nursery, university, recycling facility and DIRT. Obviously you want hospitals, nursery and university out asap, but whenever you research morale relevant buildings have your structure factory on standby to start building one.

I watched some videos of this games and it does seem to feature some vehicles, well how gud are the vehicles and can you customize it? Like secondary weapons, better armor, better engines and so on? I also looked at some few mods for OpenXcom and while some of the bigger ones provide a few more vehicles and tanks, none of them adds a new feature which allows the player to customize the vehicles even further which kinda sucks. UFO Aftershock has somthing similar of this feature which comes in form of drones, you could give them wheeled, tracked and legged locomotion as well mounting those drones with almost any infantry weapons available, even a mortar gun.

No it does not. Xcom is basically action heroes like GI Joe. Xenonauts gives more of an impression of terrible rubber suits and a very goofy utilitarian aesthetic. Your dudes even have a budding Cobra Commander aesthetic with some of the equipment and an officially sanctioned mod that brings all the other features the devs wanted into the game going on with some of the equipment but that goes nowhere fast. Trust me if they embraced the GI Joe vibes the game would've been way better overall.
Now their sequel is going to be aping nuXcom and it might be more interesting but it'll not have a distinct aesthetic too.
