Honestly, Wired Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller is supported out of the gate for most games and applications, you should probably use that. No tinkering necessary, you just plug it in and you can play.

PS4 controller usually takes some setting up with PC games although it has the better D-Pad.

I would call you a nigger, but to be honest, you are right. As far as poverty options go, the latest Logitech model of this lineup is surprisingly adequate. If you have cash to spare, only the PS3 controller is better and if you have the autism to spare as well to set it up, the Wii U pro controller is the best.

The custom stuff from places like Hypekin is okay, their Sega Saturn controller imitation is pretty excellent, if a bit overpriced and is the only thing that rivals the Wii U pro controller.

Xbox controllers are stiff pieces of shit designed for playing first person shooters which is moronic and the steam controller is a meme, a crappy mouse you can use on a couch in a pinch if you really want to play PC centric genres that way.

Some games require or play better with a controller. Fate/extella link for example is shit with mouse/keyboard, as is the original dark souls. A lot of 2d games like Rogue legacy are also ten times easier with a controller.
