Pic 1 would be my first suggestion. The NES Ninja Gaiden games are god tier.
Bionic Commando on NES and Ninja Five-O on GBA both make interesting use of a grappling hook. Bionic Commando doesn't even let you jump, so it's not a traditional platformer in that regard, it's all grappling hook.
There's also the Shinobi games on Genesis

Nah, I love the direction is taking, gameplaywise, at least, looks like SOTN/NDS castlevanias on steroids, the animations and backgrounds are really lackluster, yes, but at least design looks promising. Copy Kitty was a pleasant surprise I bought recently after being pleased by the demo and vetting the devs. They're deviantart autists, but not insane.
The gameplay hook is being able to collect elements from defeated enemies (lightning, explode, homing, plasma, bounce) and combining them with one another to generate unique weapons with new properties. There are two playable characters, each of whom has 150+ distinct combinations. One is your standard platformer, and the other can fly and micromanage guns - I haven't played much of him yet because he's such a completely different experience.
This plethora of guns initially seemed like it'd be a glut of meaningless copies, but there are a lot of distinct abilities and effects, many of which interact with the environments found in each level.
>explode shots destroy most terrain
>lightning makes your shots arc out in a spread
>plasma makes your shots fly straight and pierce enemies
There are also several one-off abilities, which are usually found in boss fights. They're neat distractions which don't overstay their welcome. In addition to the shooting, you have standard platformer mechanics: dodge rolls, double jump, (dive) kicking, etc.
My favourite part, though, is the simple act of playing through the levels and unlocking stuff. There's an incredible amount of content here; I think I've played about 15 hours and I haven't even touched the second character yet.
>about 130 levels, and two completely different characters
>NG+ available for each character, which completely changes the balance of each level and boss and introduces new weapon properties
>secret world featuring computer satan
>no-damage, high-score, and time records kept for each level on each difficulty
>achievements that actually mean something (unlocking modifiers, cheat codes, cosmetics, etc.)
>lots of boss fights, which are focused and fun due to being built around weapon restrictions
>endless mode has tonnes of different environments and unique enemies not found in story mode, plus shifting environments to make stages challenging and improvisational
>speedrun mode if you're into that
>tonnes of different enemies who all serve specific purposes in the design of each level and require the player to use different strategies
>OST is great - not many games use instrumental changes well
>writing stays the hell out of the way, and is occasionally funny
>enemy gallery
>art gallery where you get to see the wonderful deviantart autism behind the characters and lore
The 3D models are a bit odd to look at, but most of them are solid. I think people passed on this because it's been around for so long and been patched for so long, but the final 3.0 build was released in 2018 I highly recommend it.

That's actually a good way to put it. It reminds me of the remixed orchestral OST of PoR, and that one is so fucking bad compared to the actual OST that it hurts.
You's think an orchestral OST would improve the game, but I think it also have to do with audio quality. The songs doesn't pack a punch, they aren't sharp, they just feel lazy, not something you want to hear for an epic adventure. In contrast, Skullgirls managed to make a kick ass battle song song out of a fucking saxophone.

>MN9
It isn't Megaman. Not even Megaman X. There way too much focus on the dash mechanics and you can virtually use it forever except vertically. The thing is, you get points and kill enemies faster by dashing into them after shooting them rather than just shooting them, and it apply to the bosses as well to some extent.
Gunvolt does the same, I'd say MN9 is more of a Gunvolt clone than a megaman clone, difference being that in Gunvolt you can make combos depending on the amount of enemies you hit and the strenghtstrength of your attack depends on how many times you hit an enemy before fucking them, while in MN9 you get less points if you hit them less but can still one shot them and dash through them.
The whole dashing thing is what I like about it, and getting high scores means you need to be precise about who you are going to shoot and how quickly you can dispatch them, at least in gunvolt. That being said, the games are piss easy and you can hardly die except with spikes and that bullshit.

To be fair, I think most of the criticism about the game came from conman advertising it as megaman when in fact it truly isn't megaman at all. There's also the fact that it looks like trash, even when the concept art is actually pretty nice.

>It isn't Megaman.
but it's just not really mediocre game even if you grant it as 'not Megaman'. I could a have been good if they gave it more polish but the blatant laziness of the project on top of how rude the community manager behaved is half the reason why people hate it. It really does bight hard of the MM formula so so say its not at least trying to be a MM game is a bit of a stretch. The Energy tank mechanic alone takes the game from being tolerable to being ill-conceived garbage. Only positive is a few of the bosses where actually somewhat decent.
I sometimes wish moderns would fix the game, because I wouldn't be opposed to a fixed version

Which is exactly why I think Gunvolt is better, specially since Gunvolt came first. On top of looking better than MN9 I'd say is really polished with it's mechanics, specially the second game. I think the game could have been better as well, and it definitively isn't good, but most of the hate towards the game comes from elements outside of the game, like Dina and Conman.

It improves dramatically in the second game, but the first level is always basic, mate.
Speaking of which, OP could try The Legend of the Dark Witch games. They are short but quite satisfying.

The PC port is shit. It is a really lazy port, which is why you play with two windows, one supposed to be the 3DS screen. I'm not even sure if the port even have the changes done in the later releases of the game with the language change. As for the fps, wouldn't really know if it ever ran st 60fps.

The FPS isn't bad, but it's something I'd expect out of the Gameboy Advance with the Zero games rather than true smooth 60 fps. Which I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing, since it further reminds me of Zero. I like it, but the menus are giving me quite the headache and I think I'm going to be skipping the story soon.

60 FPS, better menus(although those are at 30 fps), but you still can't exit the game normally and have to press ESC or Alt-F4 out(and sometimes you have to check task manager in case it didn't exit correctly and end the process there) and the text is still garbage.
I'll take it I guess.
775162 No.16345815
So check this shit out, there's an option in the languages menu that lets you choose English(Japanese Voices Mode). Not only does it give voices to characters, it also changes the script to something less shit and gets rid of stupid garbage like "PHOTOBOMBING THE MOMENT" and instead has Joule and her Muse feel as two entirely different characters instead of bitchy highschooler and her nerd friend.
But that's not all, the normal english option cuts out in-mission dialog, on the first mission alone there's like 60% of the dialog cut.
I'm surprised how, even though that dialog has some giant subtitles it's still transparent enough to not distract or get in the way.

Master Blaster Zero series on the switch is fun. First one is a remake of the original nes, and it's good. I'm currently doing the second and it's got some nice features-when you're doing the on foot sections for example, in the first game you get the upgrade for your gun to max and slaughter everything. This time it gets weaker is you spam it, but you have a 'counter' system you can use that helps negate/dodge damage and stun that bosses are designed around, so the ground combat is more skill based.

How do I git gud at Zero 1? Shit just pops out too quickly for me to react, or I feel like I need to do too many leaps of faith because the screen shows too little and I find that, like Gunvolt, I'm shit at the stages, but not the bosses.

Beat Ninja Gaiden… man, those final 2 levels could get pretty artificially difficult
>enemy respawns if you aren't close enough to them, even if they are on screen
>floods of fast respawning enemies begin to take chunks of health
>practically no health drops so you have to play almost perfectly through 9 levels
>get to boss
>if you lose to him once you have to repeat the 9 levels over
Not something I'll probably play again, but man was that last boss fun especially when you realize he's just a bullet hell.

Of old? The Spyro Trilogy, Crash 2 1 doesn't really count as 3D, 3 if you can deal with too many minigames, Ratchet and Clank, Sly, Mega Man Legends Duo/Misadvantures of Tron Bonne, Medievil, Jak and Daxter 1 haven't played the rest are all I have played and can recommend. no clue on nintendo games
Of new, I can recommend Cloudbuilt Obstacle courses with wallrunning and a jetpack, it's nice but has a stupid story and A Hat in Time.
