Second, do not throw cheating/hacking under the same umbrella as griefing.

Cheating in multiplayer games is for cucks who can't win otherwise to get their dopamine rush from the only form of control they will get in their pathetic life without putting in an ounce of effort into it.

Griefing is a natural extension of the concept of shadenfreude, the act of receiving joy at the misery of others. This is pretty niggerish as well but like all forms of trolling there is an art and finese to it. Singling out a single underage person to kill him over and over deliberately to frustrate them is not very funny, but locking them at spawn using a bunch of props or in a doorway using the poor door collision physics is hilarious.

Throwing a grenade down in an elevator while your whole team is riding it is not very funny after the first time. But putting down a teleporter facing a cliff-side, so your allies walk right over it in reminiscence of an old while.e coyote cartoon is hilarious.

There may be different competition. Abstract like scoring best time on lap. Or plain and open schadenfreude of killing your opponent. Last type games (FPS) are most popular PvP vidya comparing to abstract competitions. Guess why? Because opponent misery is more direct and perceivable.

The only griefers that bother me are delusional people. I can forgive stupid people and bad days, but delusional people are fucking monsters. There are a shitload of them in DotA. They can't tell you why something is right or wrong, but it sure as fuck is never their fault. If you even suggest a play or refuse something stupid they lose their minds. If you've never tried it, you just won't understand the intoxicating feeling of ruining someone else's "experience", because the bottom line is that games are meant to be fun experiences and if you can't have fun and treat every match as some sort of do or die situation (i.e. team based games like TF2) then you deserve to be laughed at.

Usually it comes in two categories: there's the people who dedicate so much time to some games that they basically know the ins and outs of them and discover glitches and unintended strategies and use said tech just to flex on some poor faggot who will never git gud and will just cuss at the game developers for not allowing his twelve years old brain to win every time flawlessly and for pairing him with teammates who don't take the game as seriously as he does; and the people who just go in otherwise terrible games, of the Second Life type, just to mock what are basically genetic dead ends who find their disgusting niches where instead of trying to find solace in their shared hobby will just try and recreate the social structure that struck them down but in virtual form where they can be a futa scaly.

Plus there's some videogames that are by design intended to be griefing experiences. SS13 is an example.

Aimbots are absolute retards though, micspammers are just a level above them if anything because it's hilarious to see soccer moms and precocious kids unable to find the mute button and going nuclear in chat because of it.
