Super Mario 64 and the orignal NES game.

For now, SML for the GB. It just feels like someone tried really hard to remake Mario but cannot recreate the true Mario fun.

Haven't seen one yet

Honorable mention would be SML2 for GB.

Mario 64 for the great movement Mario 3 for the variety makes them my favorites in 2d/3d. Haven't played Odyssey/Galaxy but the latter seems like the simplistic side of Mario taking over too much.

Sunshine is my least favorite because there's no variety, everything feels the same, and everything feels like shit.

Probably SM3DW for Wii U. I still had some fun with it, but the levels felt uninspired and too simple IMO, not to mention too easy even for 3D Mario standards

The Sky World in SMB3 I guess? There's also Lost Levels but I haven't really played it

Mario3. Pipe world was the best thing ever.

I guess I'd be okay with never ever again replaying Mario2. Apart from getting 100% with the 4 characters.

I don't know how to explain it but it was sort of "too flashy" for me. SMB for the NES was simplistic and made me focus on being better at the game. I still cannot finish the fucking game despite the two warps.

Not even one? The last few levels in Super Mario 3D World have some challenge, and Japanese Super Mario Bros 2 gets pretty tough.

49469b  No.16231356

>>16231342

I was gonna say SMB2J but I only finished World 1-1, didn't look into the rest of the game. What I do know however, is that those Japanese bastards put warp pipes that lead you BACK to earlier stages. Like let's just say you're in World 5-1, and if you take the wrong path, sorry fucko you'll see a Warp Pipe that leads you back to World 1.

Warps will help you get faster to the end, but you might want to visit those middle worlds anyway for the experience.

World 6 is the worst, I hate ice floor mechanics.

>>16231356

>SMB2J pipe warps actually warp you back

That brings memories. The worst was getting to a warp and saying "No No No No!!!". Might be better to kill yourself by running out of time than entering one because there's no way to get out alive now.

I somehow got to 8-4 but couldn't find Bowser. Game was pretty evil and the level layout was not as classy as in SMB1. I remember some cheap stuff that belongs in a ROM hack, not in an official Nintendo game.

>most favorite game(s)

A toss-up between Mario 3 and World

>least favorite game(s)

A toss-up between Mario 64 and Sunshine. I hate random-ass bottomless void 3D platform jumping. I want coherence and gameplay in my levels. Pits are fine, but when a large portion of whole levels are just random goddamn geometry hovering above a skybox, I'm out.

>bonus: most difficult game/level

I don't know. The Mario games that were fun to me didn't feel like they had particularly difficult levels, as they were fun enough to keep me coming back until I was good at them. My concept of difficulty is "don't try this until you're familiar with the controls and gameplay mechanics", not "this roadblock in the game is bullshit that requires absolute perfection to pass, so who cares if it makes sense".

I still remember the first time I had seen Super Mario Brothers, and it blew my mind. It, and The Legend of Zelda, were leagues beyond what my old Atari 2600 could manage. Being able to play as more than a block, or a single-color mess of pixels, was a tremendous improvement, and having polyphonic music and sound effects was a whole new experience to me.

Better than Sunshine and Galaxy.

Not only are the bosses the only bosses in the franchise that actually focus on platforming, the fucking point of the game, but the game itself has a much increased focus on platforming. Both 3D Land and 3D World do. I'm not fond of the gimmick powerups (Tanooki suit and Cat suit). Sunshine took any and all focus from platfoming away with FLUDD, a gimmick piece of shit that made dying impossible, barring you glitching through the lilypad or being a literal fucking vegetable with no hands. Any platforming was trivialized completely. Galaxy only had platforming in stages that trivialized the gravity gimmick - anything that had the gravity in full force had piss-easy platforming. With 3D Land and World (and Odyssey), you can avoid their shit gimmicks. With Sunshine and Galaxy, you can't.

>>16231719

Crash was slow as piss. 2 and 3 were better in that aspect since you could slide, but nowhere near as good as Mario 64. Spyro let you charge, which was both a useful skill and a solid attack. Couple that with levels designed around it, that had much better movement than Crash did as well.

I guess, just seems boring to be doing the same thing always and forever. Would rather keep it interesting and new. If I'm baiting, find new angles to get under peoples skin instead of doing the same routine endlessly.

The most crippling question to an autist is "why?". They can't give a proper answer. I mean, why does Pannenkoek keep making A-press, and recently, no joystick runs of Mario 64? Fuck knows, he just likes the game that much. In the same way, (((659450))) likes posting about Miyamoto liking Crash that much. Sage for off-topic.

The cat suit was fun, and if you don't like it you can ignore it. Not a big deal. It was just a bit lame how the branding and marketing of the game relied so heavily on the cat stuff, when it was really just one of many tools. The game needed some kind of marketable image and that was what they had, I guess

b0fd14  No.16239371

The name "3D World" is an absolute branding blunder, of course. That title communicates nothing, and sounds stupid when removed from the context of the 3DS. Yeah, 3D graphics, great. It's not 1993.

The game needed a title like "Four Swords" something that instantly communicates what the game actually is.

I agree with this. Even though I keep replaying the game since I keep dying at World 8, I managed to memorize the warps, the powerup locations etc. With all that, I can feel that I can go faster without the need to break every block. I also feel that "steering" Mario at the last second gives you that good feel of control. Not SM64 control, but like "driving a car successfully" control.
