Have your skills got any better over the years?
7a9584 No.16223457
27 yo, better than they have ever been. too bad everything else is failing
5c9b83 No.16223475
Yeah, but i never reach the level of speedrunners or competition.
In a way i prefer it like that. While i manage to be pretty decent in general (and i avoid the casual level of PRESS X TO WIN) and always try to improve, i like to still find challenges.
Games have also gone shittier with the years.

No, worse actually, at least in terms of reflexes and whatnot. In terms of strategy and not dying in JRPGs and shit they've probably gotten better though.

Yes.
I'm much better than I used to be, even in games that require very quick reactions.

Yes. Skills only deteriorate or stay static if you never use them, or if you''re legitimately an old fart

Yeah, I play mostly FPS only, and I think FPS' are pretty easy to train compared to learning moves/combos in fighting games.

Honestly, no. I'm still as bad in everything as I was 5 years ago.

I used to be a turtlefag in RTS when I was younger. These days I actually seek to gain map control and scout my enemies so I'm much better. I have noticed that my reactions in FPS are slower though.

Nah. I'd still say I'm pretty average at just about everything. I just got done playing DMC 5 and got smashed by the first boss inb4 2 ez. I know I'm playing too aggressively. Now that I think about it, the strategy is probably whacking his legs then using the wire to jump up and avoid low attacks. But it's late so that will have to wait until tomorrow. Does anyone else sort of having trouble getting into the zone? Sometimes I can play like a CUH-RAZY fucker, but I lose that rhythm quite easily.

I honestly wouldn't worry about that, getting to those levels is way more time & effort than anyone should really invest in a hobby.
Doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be good at the games you play though but the gap between good and competitve is way past the point of diminishing returns.
3900ee No.16226903
I get better at games I play regularly, obviously. But my base stats, reflexes and whatnot haven't really improved. I'm still as average as always the first time I play a game.
In my late twenties now there is a slight worry about getting old and slow I try to combat it by playing rhythm games.

If anything, my skills have rusted to a degree. I can do things in games now, that I could not have done when I was a kid, and vice versa. I fell out of FPS games and fighting games, and I don't know about my skill level in racing games anymore. I don't even play games all that often anymore, mainly just 3D adventure shit these days. Yakuza, Hokuto ga Gotoku, Horizon Zero Attractive People, Link's Brittle Adventure, and Mad Max, recently. DooM 2016 a NuWolfenstein (not the completely pozzed sequel The Jew Colossus) aren't really FPS games to me, but I played them to see what they were like. I dunno.

I resent the fact that I was never given the opportunity to play "real" competitive games as a kid, like fighting games against a group of competitive minded people at let alone the local/tournament level (to say nothing of the international level), and other such competitive games like StarCraft, or Doom and Quake and other fps of their kind, etc.
Point is, I'm pretty shit in these arenas, but at least I can play all the moba shit with the kids just fine. I grew up playing Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot and other platformers, so that is where my strength lies, and I don't think I've gotten worse with age because they're mostly rote memorization at their core, and reflexes play a very small role in success.

Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 2 was seriously difficult for me back in 2006. I did eventually beat him but not after alot of failures. I eventually replayed the whole Kingdom Hearts series in prep for KH3. When I eventually reached him again in 2018 I had 0 difficulties on this guy and beat him.
I've found this to be a common occurrence when I revisited any old game I use to play back in the day. New games on the other hand I barely have any difficulties with anymore. God of War for the PS4? Played and beaten it on "give me God of War" and just found it meh as a challenge, I didn't understand why my friends were complaining about it.
Honestly I'm just considering quitting gaming all together since I don't have any challenge playing them anymore. Which as a gamer for 20+ years is hard for me to even outright admit. Maybe I should just stop focusing on challenges and become a Story Mode player instead? Whatever the case is, I've been playing video games for over 25+ years and my skills haven't deteriorated they've just gotten better. Which does worry me in all honesty.

My skills got more versatile as I play more genres now. Tried some competitive games and found that I'm actually pretty good at them. I just don't give a fuck about following trends with new nerfs, buffs and metas and all that shit also online gaming communities are pure cancer. Only thing I can't do now is spending ridiculous amounts of time on grinding or boring shit like that.

To be honest, yeah. I've gone from struggling on some of the most casual levels to actually going through some hard difficulty stuff rather smoothly once I got the hang of it. I think vidja helped me become a quick adapter to tough situations.
a potentially bad case and point but when I started with EO 4 I couldn't do anything but the easy difficulty, but now I'm playing Nexus and going rather smoothly as it gets through the highest difficulty.

Nope; they've only gotten worse since I stopped playing vidya. I tried playing TF2 once a few months ago and I sucked ass at it. Couldn't aim worth shit. The only thing I think I've gotten better at is thinking strategically, taking precautions, not bumrushing into things.

I'd say my skill in shooters has gone down quite a bit, while other genres like fighting games have significantly improved. Tried playing some multiplayer shooting games I got for free recently and damn if I can't hit shit anymore. I distinctly remember being moderately good at them but now my reflexes or reasoning or both just can't comprehend it. Fighting games on the other hand, I can now actually understand and react and in some cases even dominate another player.
I've also gotten a lot better at character action games since discovering God Hand I think.

Then play actually difficult genres like STG, arcade style side scroller shoot-em-ups like Metal Slug and Hard Corpse Uprisng, rhythm games, fighting games, dungeon crawlers, roguelikes, and maybe strategy games.

I recently made a big improvement in how well I played Nero in DMC4SE. Going from not being able to beat Berial to reaching floor 99 in about a week and a half. I'm not very twitch-reflex-fast game inclined but over the years through perseverance I've made big improvements at stuff like Bayonetta, Titanfall 2, DMC, Vanquish and God Hand.
Long-term I started defaulting to hard mode and have thus gotten a lot better at games, since when I was young I would default to easy mode.

Depends on the skills. I have lost my ultra spastic creativity I had as a child when it came to 2D fightans and gotten worse overall. For 3D fightans like Dissidia and Gundam, I stopped being so on the edge and autistically aggressive instead opting for a more punishing style.
The most bizarre change that happened to me was with the KUUURRRAAAYZHE games : when I was younger I was absolute shit at DMC because I couldn't understand its cancelling mechanics and I was ok at Ninja Gaiden. Now, whenever I play Ninja Gaiden I'm in this zen state where nothing can touch me and I just stylishly shred everything in the games and that extends to several other games, like with Sengoku Basara. Scary thing is I haven't played Ninja Gaiden for 2 years and when i tried it, I've only gotten better.
I've also noticed a noticable increase in almost everything gaming related when my health is better when exercising. The 30s are scary.

My reflexes are often worse due to not playing action games as often as when I was a teen, but I am much smarter in how I play. Sometimes advanced tricks are much easier to do because I am much more efficient at understanding them and troubleshooting how I might be doing them wrong.
