The only thing I could consider like that is when I play a horror game and it puts me off so much I don't want to touch it anymore, even though I should finish it

Maybe when I finished Mother 2 when I was 12 it was a bit hard sleeping, but that is not a horror game

I can't remember playing video games much when I was too young to differentiate reality from a television screen, so no.

Diablo 1 was scary back in the day to my 11 year old mind. The Butcher in particular was scary; the idea that there was a monster who only lived to cut people to pieces really freaked me out. Fatal Frame 3 also has a jumpscare fairly early on that I was completely unprepared for and almost gave me a legit, honest to god heart attack, but it didn't put me off from sleeping or anything

when I was younger I had that PS1 monster rancher game were you could unlock different monster by inserting any disc, so a friend (who is dead now) got me a plastic bag full of pirated and unlabeled play station games, music and programs, I was supposed to give them back but he told me I could keep some of the games, for a price of course. so I spent the whole night testing different games, I remember I found FIFA, twisted metal, WF, rayman, final fantasy, etc. BUT there was this fucking game, a horror game, I have no idea what it was called because it was like in chinese or something probably japanese, one of the things I remember is that one of the developers had a golden lion head logo, the game was in first person and it started in something like a park area during a rainy night, after walking for some seconds I found a carousel and that's when something attacked and killed me. back then I was a little shit so I fucking nope'd the game, put it in the bag and went to sleep.

I've been trying to find that game for over 20 years, I really want to know what the fuck was happening in that game. anyone knows anything about it?

It was less the game at the time and more the time and location. I was playing it late at night during the summer on an Xbox I had at my mom's house in rural Oklahoma. She didn't have internet so I played alone and it was on an older CRT she had. I guess the mix of it being late, kinda windy, rural, and an ever-so-slightly spooky game really stuck with me. Almost makes me wish I had a spookier game at the time, but it got the job done.

There were bits of RE4 that spooked me a bit.

>regenerator not getting killed no matter how many bullets I put into it

It's a shame they didn't have more monsters that were immune to just pumping bullets into them. I never liked games that make you helpless the entire time since the tension starts dissipating after you get used to things, but it ramps up the tension dramatically when your weapons suddenly stop doing shit and you're forced to flee.

Also the chainsaw decapitations unnerved me since I hadn't seen much gore yet.

Very first time that I can remember was when I was little playing the Sims. One of my Sims died somehow and the Grim Reaper showing up to collect his debt scared me shitless. The sudden and dreadful music that plays when Death comes around is really tense in all of the Sims games, but the first game's sting is absolutely terrifying if you're not paying attention.

A friend of mine back when he was 12 was absolutley terrified of Silent Hill. He couldn't play it unless there was someone alongside him (usually me), sometimes he would turn down the volume, the static of the radio made him very nervous, ohter times he would give me the controller to get past some areas while watching over my shoulder. Most of the time I was laughing because of how much of a scared pussy he was.

Until one day we made the mistake of playing the game at night. We managed to reach the final boss and then vid related kicks in, alongside with Incubus, a flying humanoid monster. My friend almost broke in tears and I was frozen on spot, terrified both with the whole imagery and the sound coming from the speakers. He jumped and turned off the TV with tears in his face, while I was completely pale and shaking. We had to sleep in her older sister's bedroom that night.

Almost 15 years later, we remember that episode and we laugh ourselves about it. But we both agree that the soundtrack does its job perfectly some tracks still give me some minor goosebumps while replaying the game

6d3785  No.16222817

Dead Rising 1 when I was like 13 unnerved me, simply because it was hordes of zombies shambling towards you with nothing but what you had on you for a fight. That's sort of how it goes though when it was one of the first 360 games and your cousin brings it over and the only thing you have to throw against zombies are buzzsaw blades.

cbbda2  No.16222847

Stupid Invaders for the Dreamcast, back when I was 9. Between the low res FMV aesthetics and how shocking and gruesome the death scenes were, I was genuinely creeped out. The part where you melt Santa Claus with acid horrified me, and the Alien Hunter jumpscared me hard enough to make me turn the Dreamcast off in a panic. The game manual booklet gives you hints and puzzle solutions for when you're really stuck while insulting you for being a stupid cheating little shit, and I never managed to beat the game because the manual (perhaps intentionally) omitted a critical item in the last level, which I couldn't go back for. Maybe someday I'll give it another try.

As a kid, I finished the first Alone in the Dark in my brother's 486, games like Resident Evil 2 and 3 and Silent Hill 1 were my lifeblood for years, but aside from jumpscares like in Dead Space, the only game that ever got me to close the console/PC and go to sleep because I was fucking shitting myself was Project Zero 1.

My first run was pretty bad and got lost a hundred times. Ghosts would respawn, health items don't and I was at the edge of my seat. Cue to the "long arms" ghost that constantly yells about his child. I inmediately shut it down and went to bed scared shitless

Maybe not frightened exactly, but I got extremely uncomfortable and disturbed playing the first Silent Hill game.

Some parts of the Metro games (Librarians) can be headfucky too.

Oh yeah, the controllers in Call of Pripyat, as well as those invisible fuckers that I forget the name of.

Nothing in videogames has truly scared me, but I have found that as I get older I'm less interested in playing games with horror/jumpscares.

before I looked it up and realized that's just what Fatal Frame is called in Europe. Still though, that shit was really creepy. I remember a friend I playing one of the Fatal Frame games back in highschool and it was a blast. The only part that was remotely scary was the worst expansion when you weren't fighting replicants and the end of the first game. I felt helpless for once and was desperately searching for a safe place to escape to, caught me off guard
