Which headset would you guys recommend for a gamer that wants to be competitive? I used to have a pair of these but they both broke on me.

For me microphones always break. So I bought a cheap-mid-range standalone microphone and life has been good since. Sturdy + not necessary to touch/ fiddle with = long life. Long life = me happy.

I'd advocate the same with headphones. Get something without gimmicks, that doesn't fold and that isn't made of cheap plastic. I have a terrible ear for audio so can get away with cheap-mid-range without being able to hear any discernible difference in quality. Huzzah for bad ears?

What the fuck does this even mean? You can either hear shit or you don't. I guess you must mean headphones with good sound stage. If you're going to be playing with a fuck ton of people in person, you would want closed-back headphones, but I'm not sure of any which can compare to an open-back.

Just buy some poorfag 15-20$ full ear headphones without a mic and a 10$ mic. If any of that dies for whatever reason, it's stupidly cheap to replace. If you've got a bit of a budget and audio autism, grab some Sony MDR7506s, great audio quality and they last forever. Never buy gamershit in general, since it's always low quality garbage selling on name alone, and never buy headsets instead of headphones.

Low quality peripherals with awful comfort, audio and microphone hastily slapped together by underpaid former rice farmers in a dimly lit sweatshop. You basically pay about 80% price markup for those needless neckbeard gimmicks like RGB, a stupid and tacky looking case and some crappy proprietary control software that nobody asked for.

Look for a traditional audio equipment brand that has nothing to do with gamer crap. AKG, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica, Shure to name a few.

HyperX Cloud Stinger - Can be had for less than $50 and feel/look/sound better than headsets more than twice the cost. Mic quality is acceptable and construction is durable and ergonomic. Overall a better deal than the majority of so-called "gamer headsets" on the market.

Not sure if you have any options like that on your xboner, but generally speaking headsets are something only a retard would buy.

Headsets are almost always a combination of bad headphones, an extremely terrible microphone and a massively overinflated price-tag.

I have no idea how they manage to make those microphones that bad. Maybe that's where all the money goes into.
