You know, in principal, I like the idea of playing a cute loli surrounded by aggressive armed men who want to kill maybe rape, but mostly kill you - and you stick around, picking them off one by one by stealthing up to them and leaping onto their neck - then tearing out their throat with a rusty shank.

Shame Ellie wasn't a cute loli, and the stealth mechanics sucked, and that the whole thing had to be wrapped in a game as bad as TLoU. But I'm convinced that the concept is sound and enjoyable if done right. Maybe make her a Solid Snake type infiltration specialist, or Gunslinger Girl without the gun/Hitman assassin.

I'm not interested enough to look at this again, but during the early game I found this not to be the case. I believe you though, the rules for stealth changed every encounter so I wouldn't be surprised if my initial exploration on the zombies happened during an event you are not 'supposed' to stealth.

Maybe I am getting old, but I played and finished the game because the environments were very well done– perhaps the best I've seen. FF13 1-3 I played thru because of the music. The difference between the two experiences is that I didn't feel like FF13s were subtly trying to manipulate my point of view towards group characteristics aside from murdering Hope The pickings are thin this last decade I suppose. TLOU environments were great. It is really sad that such great artistry was paired up with unequal talent and under the direction of an agenda that will ruin whatever good there was. Ideology is a belief system, meaning it replaces what is real with wants in order to feed an inappropriate need, and in this process all good is turned to evil. Ideology should add to the story of a characters point of view, not the authors. There are sick people making the sequel that think they are doing good and expecting riches and praise for doing so. It is a great shame.

Fair enough. I just don't think they make up for how boring the game is. On paper it tries to avoid the pitfall of so many stealth games, where they usually give you an arsenal of weapons/powers that the player has no need of using because stealth is usually the most efficient way to use (or not) their resources. Dishonored and Deus Ex are two good examples of this, and yes, I'm aware that the design principles of these two and TLOU are quite different. In TLOU there's rarely a choice, the game is so on rails that the player is forced to do exactly what the developers want him to do.

The most similar example to TLOU in that regard are the Metro games, but the difference is that in Metro getting discovered in a stealth section isn't a death sentence (unless the games make it abundantly obvious you're dead if that happens) since you can just shoot your way through.

Pushing ideology seriously never turns out well, even when it's something you agree with, and the fact leftists are incapable of seeing how off-putting being so heavy-handed is speaks volumes about them.

I genuinely have no idea what they're trying to do with TLOU2. Outlast 2 tried the whole "Christians are evil goy" and putting in as much edgy shock content as possible and it utterly failed. Audiences rejected them because few could stomach so much unfiltered pozz. TLOU2 seems to be even worse and in your face about it.

i don't disagree that outlast 2 got torpedoed, but i suspect it had just as much if not more to do with the fact that is was completely linear and on-rails. even outlast 1 felt like it had more agency; in 2 you literally just run from cover to cover, then watch a cutscene. it plays like garbage

It was a genuinely gruesome game in all the wrong ways. The story is a complete slog, the protagonist is unlikable, as is everyone in the cast, it beats you on the head with Christianity = Bad and Corporations = Bad and all the gore, guts, genitalia and feces scream post-modernist "art" show. Basically, it's a game that goes out of its way to make you feel like shit. Not sad, not emotional, it just wants to drown you in a lake of putrid feces and have the smell linger for as long as possible.

In the first game, and the DLC, in the end the protagonist gets some measure of closure and revenge, and the DLC protagonist escapes with his life intact. Nothing of the sort happens in the sequel.

I think that is largely due to the environments and map design. In the first game the levels were "clean", it was easy enough to tell where you could and couldn't go, where you could hide, etc. The second game has large parts of the game take place outdoors, and it's very difficult to discern where you have to go and what you have to do, so you're mostly running around like a headless chicken.

And when the movement of the characters are not scripted the enemies ignore the pedobait because NG couldn't be arsed to figure out a way to make it work. Reminder that RE4 had Ashley follow Leon around, and the enemies were fully capable of abducting/killing her if the player wasn't careful.

Also, the writing in RE4 is miles better than the Oscar-baiting shit they have in TLOU.

holy shit this part is pissing me off too. the clicker basement of the big building and it's screaming at the player to move quietly even when crouched when these fuckos are darting and running around in circles and completely killing the attempted immersion of having to be scared.

I loaned it from a library some time ago and my experience can be summarized as follows.

Pretty but boring and dumb.

One minor thing I kind of liked was the looting and animation having no delay, something RDR2 could have learned from. I played this game as a total murderhobo killing everything I could, so I probably missed all of the stealth suspense. The lack of a knife was very dumb as well considering the setting but I understand it would have made the game even easier than it already was. It could have been a lot better if they hadn't been so fucking heavy handed with the emotional manipulation of the audience, as a person who sees through that shit it's downright insulting.

Like some other anons have mentioned, in games like this it's the characters that make or break the experience, and it should tell you a lot that the best character in the game by miles is a literal faggot in his 50s. In fact he is the only somewhat likable character because of his honorable individualism and justifiable paranoia while Joel, despite sharing some similarly masculine characteristics, is at the same time too pathetic with his constant whining. The ending also made me cringe hard with its muh daughteru shit, for some reason when Nips do that kind of dynamic it feels natural despite the characters obviously looking cartoony, but in TLoU the 3DPD visual style and the little dyke's sassy antics throughout the game ended up making me feel disgusted instead when I saw that scene.

The multiplayer is trash. Oh, sure, its underlying mechanics are passable, but the changes they've made to it since its release have effectively ruined it for the worse. As an example, they introduced DLC weapons that are arguably better than their standard counterparts, not to mention passive abilities that allow a single player to do ridiculous shit. For example, the enforcer is a hand gun that has an incredibly high rate of fire and takes less rounds to down a hit enemy than the default 9mm; The variable rifle has the damage of the standard semi-auto but a much higher fire rate, and it only takes two additional rounds to fuck another player with it.

As an example that illustrated how they added nonsensical abilities, consider the bomb expert ability; by default, you can throw smoke bombs to briefly stun other players and use this time to shiv them from the front or get some free shots in. The basic smoke bomb has a delay, so players must time their throw in order to hit someone effectively with it, and the smoke bomb can potentially stun the person who threw it, so this means the player must carefully gauge the distance before throwing it. In one of the DLCs, they added an ability that makes smoke bombs go off instantly and that makes the user immune to the blast of his own smoke bomb. Now, people run around like clowns and spam smoke bombs because it's yet another way to get an easy kill.

There's other annoying shit about this game, like the contextual button prompts and how they can sometimes fuck with your experience; the button to collect items from the ground is the same button that you use to shiv someone from behind and, for some gay reason, the item collection animation takes priority over the shiv animation, so if you try and shiv someone who is standing near items that can be picked up, you'll pick up the items instead of attacking.

Aside from that, it's a very limited experience, it doesn't let you create your own unique character; instead, you're given a random character at the beginning of each match. There are a small number of cosmetics, there are a small number of game modes, and your chosen faction does very little to change your experience. Plus, the integrated facebook shit can freeze the game, and the matchmaking is shit.

I could go on about it, but the basic conclusion here is that the multiplayer leaves much to be desired.

My friends tried to push this game on me in the past, but I've been worried I wouldn't like it for a while. I just want to have fun in a game, not experience its super deep plot.
