3 easy mode examples

>The Witcher 3 monster questlines like the Noonwraith, Botchling or Pesta quests

Personally it seems fantasy rpgs do these a lot better than other genres. You could probably give me a entire game where you play a fantasy CSI guy solving crimes and monster hunts rather than some save the world or save the day urgency based plot.

What games do you prefer more for the side stories than the main plot?

Xenoblade 2 is noted for having kind of a shit plot. It's not intolerably bad but it's beneath 1's in every conceivable way. In contrast, the sidequests in 1 are cookie cutter fetch me stuff bullshit while 2's are fleshed out little stories with varied objectives .

Divinity Orginal sin 2, one of my fondest memories was gassing a city and I think that was a side quest iirc.

I think they are. I really want to play both the Original Sin games but I can never find friends to play with and I don't know what kind of character to build. That and the beginning is so slow.

I wouldn't go that far. It's only some parts that are like the Goron baby and the Zora eggs. The game's definitely made by the extensive sidequesting on top of that though, love the ranch defending and the re-uniting of the two lovers.

The Shadow of Mordor games.

The original game had some fun side quests.

It was also mad fun to toy around with the orks.

Premise was completely fucked though.

Raped the lore in absolutely horrific ways.

Would have made for a better game if they just had done their own lore, or picked some crayzee fantasy universe like Warhammer where you can have more fun with the orks without breaking the lore's continuity.

Though I mist say, the only thing I found interesting about the first game is the combat on hard. It feels like solving a puzzle and makes you employ every dirty trick in the book. Never touched the second one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If/when they return to the Witcher, it just needs to be Side Quests: The Game. Chapters like Witcher 1 and 2, areas per chapter with a bunch of quests for that area and maybe one big quest line that is a big contract. Maybe, maybe, have a story that runs through all of the chapters. You're an OC Witcher whose love has been kidnapped or you're out for revenge or you're looking for some hidden Witcher treasure chest or something.

The best content of 3 by far was the side content, DLCs included.

Borderlands 2. Specifically, there is a mission where you have to help a guy gather some photos that will inspire him to write some poetry for a girl he likes. After collecting the photos (and some optional porn) you give them to the guy and he writes the poetry. You deliver the poetry to the girl, who then goes into her house and kills herself. Definitely one of the highlights of the game.

I really want a game where the story is just you making a living by hunting monsters, no grand plot, no big evil antagonist. Just you and hunting monsters. Monster Hunter doesn't cut it, my autism diskiles it for some reason. Also more games like Recettear would be nice.

I think Witcher 3 has a good selection between main quest and side quest.

The most memorable are the whole from Heart of Stone through, from the wedding to the final.

Heart of Stone is GOAT tier.

The Assassin's Creed games from Brotherhood to Black Flag. Some of the most interesting and fun missions were hidden in the side content.

Brotherhood had Da Vinci's inventions and the Cult of Romulus. Revelations was probably the weakest with its dumb little tower defense minigame. The ship missions in AC3 clearly paved the way for Black Flag and were the most fun part of that game. Black Flag of course had the much praised ship gameplay, but also the side mission quasi-collectible content; the underwater swimming missions, the legendary ship battles, the harpoon minigame - it was the high point of the franchise. Rogue was much the same as Black Flag but much less substantial, it had almost no side content at all.

See I gave up after 3 because it felt like it was languishing with nothing left conceptually. If Black flag was a flat out pirate game with no AC nonsense I would have happily bought that as a new IP but the corporate toil masters hate new ideas.
